The fastest way to clean a Fountain pen? Featuring the Montblanc Boheme and Pilot Vanishing point!
มุมมอง 4.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Hey everyone! We noticed that it was really tough to clean fountain pens and a lot of the solutions out there were less ergonomic and effective than we hoped. We decided to design a pen clearning system, not just for our own pens and the Monoc Nib, but also many different pen brands out there today! We reverse engineered a ton of different pen brands and their nibs and came up a range of pen cl...

The fastest way to clean a fountain pen nib?! The Schon DSGN pen cleaning tool (luer lock adapter!)
มุมมอง 3.4Kปีที่แล้ว
We’ve been developing a new way to clean fountain pens that utilizes an off the shelf Luer lock syringe and a custom machined adapter that fits onto the back of your fountain pen nib. We started making these because we were cleaning so many fountain pen nibs in our workshop, and I wanted a faster and more effective way to do so. These are live on the site for purchase. We will be making more si...

Have been using eyedropper pens since school. Love them, especially their great ink capacity. Also the nibs can be swapped and tweaked. So long as you don't let the ink level come down below 2/3rd capacity, they won't blob.
Thanks!! Just needed the encouragement to really press the cartridge in there! Works great now!👍
Any plan for making the v2 ballpoint pen in titanium?
Simply WOW!
Congrats on the new shop. Please pick up some more pen shows like Dallas if you can?
Amazing!
Those are amazing pens, Ian.
Wow. Just wow. Amazing!
That's an AWESOME space. I bet there isn't another bespoke pen maker that has anywhere near this kind of space and equipment. Thanks for the tour.
Love the new shop, it’s amazing! And so big, looks like this is where you and the team are meant to be. I remember when you were in your apartment making pens, how far you’ve come! Congratulations on the new space and the new pens, they look incredible! Also, love the “Big Ass Fans” in the shop, at least I assume that’s the company that they are from. All the best!!!
Congratulations on your amazing shop and the beautiful pens. Will check you out at the Balt pen show
Ever since I've watched your interview with Alexandra Richardson at the Chicago pen show I've been convinced you're working on a homage to the Pilot Myu. Your mention of the successor to the Monoc all but confirms it. I'm so excited to see what it looks like.
Congrats! A lot of machines!!! I'm proud of you.
Looks amazing! Congratulations!
Cool
Congratulations on the new shop!
Beautiful shop, congrats! The final outcome is so good despite the struggles
Thanks Dan! Through struggle comes great things… Sometimes haha
Thank You Very Much..!!
Can't we just use the coverter to clean the nib?
@@charmie._0 sort of yes! This is more ergonomic (pull and push instead of twist) and allows you to flush faster with less strain. The converter really never expels 100% of the ink so it’s best to clean those at the end with a dull syringe. Once you do that you’ll know what I mean ;)
I usually just put the nib et al in a small glass bottle filled with millipore water in an ultrasonic. Am I risking damaging my pens this way? I usually place them so the nib isn't vibrating against the glass.
This was really helpful! And I have a question- can you explain how the air is allowed to go back into the cartridge or converter? I didn't quite understand that part.
air and ink are exchanged by the feed. its the primary function of the feed to regulate that interchange. it lets the air in when the ink comes out, kind of like a bottle that goes glug glug when you flip it upside down.
@@Schon_DSGN THANK YOU that is exactly what I needed explained! That really makes sense now. Wow. Fountain pens are so incredible. Makes me appreciate it more when I write now 😊
Thank you for explaining the physics behind fountain pens! I REALLY appreciate this video! :D Thank you!😃
@@jynclr you are so welcome!
Info on fins is new to me. Thanks.
Excellent thank you! I just got my first ever fountain pen and the ink cartridges came separate and I was confused. Worked perfectly! So exciting 😁😁😁
I was a happy eyedropperer until my first disaster. Perhaps others share my experience.
Did not know your rollerball used fountain pen ink.
Thank you, very useful information.
Okay, this is awesome. Will be getting this incredible cleaning tool.
The only video that shows how to change the nib!!
Do you release for Schmidt nibs?
yes, use the "bock" size :)
Why won't my cartridge pop?
Still not sure whether I want a Monoc right now, which will make current me happy, or wait until Ian Schon comes up with something even more insane and ridiculously revolutionary and make future me happy.
Why not both hahaha jk jk. thx for the kind words
Wonderful work! Keep it up. Your pens are amazing and so are you for designing such a beautiful modern pen with all the right vibes. Next would love some swag from your company.
An adapter for the Pilot Custom 74 would be AMAZING, haha! Or any Pilot that takes the CON-70 converter. Not sure if the Pilot one you already have would fit on a Custom 74. Thanks for filling this need with awesome products!
I think the pilot one does work as long as it’s a pilot converter :)
This helped. Thanks.
I got this randomly in my youtube home page, despite not knowing what your product is at all. I'm not even into pens or stationary XD. Anyways, neat to heat about this stuff!
ha! Glad you enjoyed it
Yo that’s good information 👍🏽✍️
My wife works in MRI .... do you know if with this nib and aluminum or other body is it possible it's not magnetic
The nib is titanium so there is no magnetic material in there, the pen bodies are aluminum, or plastic and they also have no magnetic material. the converter however for a full sized pen has a small amount of steel in it, so a cartridge based pen would be best :)
My full-size ultem tends to get ink in the barrel around the converter, that might be why…
perhaps! take that seal off (toothpick helps or just your fingernails) and let me know if it helps! So sorry we didnt discover this sooner.
I don’t understand the logic behind this method. It looks to me like treating a symptom and not the disease. The problem of the wide gap between the tines is still there. If the ink has dried up at a later stage, logically the symptomatic treatment will have to be repeated. Or am I missing something?
This is a general method for starting a stubborn nib. maybe the nib was oily or dirty? try this method before going to a nibsmith or sending a pen in for repair. This should not be something you do all the time, just getting a pen working for the first time or during inking especially with cartridge pens that are not dipped into ink like converter pens. hope that helps clarify!
Thank you for this information. I don’t usually eye drop pens because I love to switch inks; but this is good to know in case.
Want. No; must have!
Less terrible than most. Why don't the producers find a presenter that presents himself as someone who actually knows anything, rather than a brainless kid??
what Nib size line is this? I know it's a no. 6 JOWO nib but is it fine, medium, bold, extra fine? Thanks.
I find that ultem is pretty stain resistant so perhaps water alone without alcohol could keep the pen pretty clean?
why not attach the adaptor to a larger syringe to increase the volume of water being flushed per stroke?
Doesn’t fit in the pen :) also more water isn’t necessarily better. It’s totally good with small volume
what size would I get for my Mont Blanc Boheme retractable nib pen
The bock one 👍
Are your metal brass pens lead free?
lol I don’t use silicon grease. I just use ptfe tape, never had any leaking issue on my Kaweco metal pens (I use neutral ph ink, had no problem with oxidation, 2 years of use). I work in a very hot manufacturing environment and don’t really have burping problems.
Could you speak on the reason for the price differences between US Ultem pens and Ali express pens?
