Road to nationals day 3 Deadlift PR
larsenconditioning
As of right now i am in a new training block this is from the last week of the last training block, me and coach tried to have me deadlift 3 days per week instead of 2 and overall my lower back could not keep up. So it will look a little different in the coming weeks, currently 11 weeks out from the next competetion, it is not nationals however it is to get more experience towards that.

    • @larsenconditioning6742

      Just because he works with it doesnt mean he knows anything, there was a study showing 45 sets of quads per week was better than 15. Take that and apply to all muscle groups and you will be left with around 300 sets per week, research is often wrong or misrepresented by people. Here is the thing with the strecth research, it shows it gave more growth in a certain subsection of a muscle like the triceps so one of the 3 heads got more from the strecth and they then use that to argue that it is just as good as full ROM when it actually isnt.

    • @DonkeyFucker3000

I will ask you this if the strecth was soo good how come the people Jeff and so on that uses it over the past couple of years, have either lost muscle mass or stopped growing competely even though they try their hardest to get bigger?

    "jeff doesn't train hard enough, he uses the stretch as a cop out" jeff preaches using the stretch portion of the lift once you can't reach full contraction, that's going past failure, how are you going to say he doesn't train hard enough? and at the end of the day, even IF jeff doesn't lift well, he's not the one who makes the science, the science is just there. its effect can be read in the studies. go read the numbers, make your own conclusions on whether it's worth it or not to learn more about how to apply science into your lifting, don't base yourself on jeff's size.

    • @larsenconditioning6742
      @larsenconditioning6742 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Jeff has in the past been dunked on for training to softly, he has legit done videos of him doing 5 more reps than he thought he could because he thought he reached failure. So just because he promotes, does not mean he does it himself and science based lifting suck. Reason 1 there are studies showing lifting heavy loads 1-5 reps that strength doesnt increase compared to doing higher rep work. Even though we know that is not case, if that was the case all strength athletes myself included would not try to lift super heavy. Reason 2 there are studies showing 45 sets per muscle is better than 15 sets, apply that and do over 300 sets per week and spend 4-6 hours a day in the gym and overtrain. Reason 3 studies are done on weaker lifters ie the general population, and not people with 225+ lbs OHPs and 550+ lbs deadlifts. The moment you include strong lifters, all that research falls flat on its face. If you dont belive me watch mitchell hooper the worlds strongest man 2 years in a row, and he says exactly the same.

    as for what the description of the video says, i agree that what's optimal differs from person, but that's the whole point of science! instead of "this works for me, so you should do it to" it's "this seems to work best on average", it allows everyone to base their lifting on proven principles, and to derive those based on their own body

  • @williamk52074
    @williamk52074 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is silly. It is totally possible for Jeff to be smaller than he is now compared to several years ago, and for the "stretch" to still be important. There are a thousand other likely reasons as to why he might look smaller now, that isn't due to him prioritising the lengthened part of an exercise. To discredit science-based lifting because of this is stupid. And to say that Jeff is bad at lifting when he not only has trained for as long and as dedicatedly as he has, but has only co-authored a scientific paper on hypertrophy exercise is really funny

    • @larsenconditioning6742
      @larsenconditioning6742 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is just one video vs science based lifting, in case you want another one ive seen people talking about how they cannot recover from 40 sets per week per body part. And they do it because of science based lifting, because there was a study showing 45 sets of quads per week gave more growth than 15 sets per week. You can do science papers all you want however that doesnt make you good at lifting mate, there were once the gymbros needed the science crowd a little now days it has taken over.

    • @larsenconditioning6742
      @larsenconditioning6742 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@farmingthetnt8081 There is a upper limit at best the study was showed it was comparable to just doing full ROM. And yes id rather use personal experience than studies, because over the years ive seen that the stronger i get the less volume i can handle. So it is clear a strong lifter needs less volume compared to a weaker lifter, a weaker lifter can also get away with more volume because they havent learned how to recruite high threshold motorunits. However your studies does not say that, i got more than enough expeience at this point to know what i can and cannot do training wise. When i was newer to lifting i could do 12 sets or more for chest in a single session, if i do that now it will be straight overtraining, however the research does not support it. Most subjects in studies are just normal folks with normal strength levels, when you are weaker you can handle more volume. If you do not believe me ask Mitchell Hooper, he himself have flat out said he doesnt do that many sets due to his strength level as each set drains him that much more.

If you look at jeff now vs 2 or 3 years ago he looks smaller, and the last 2 years or so he has been all about the strecth and in that time frame he gotten smaller. So again just like in the video if the strecth was good how come he is smaller now, compared to when he did normal strength training. Not the smith version no however if you use a seated version from a rack then yes, because you can brace against the bench and just dummy press the weight up. We also want the bar bath to be the same as much as possible, with a smith machine it wont be. The bar path will get to be a little bit more in front of you rather than a more straight path up. I even use the seated OHP myself, because you can add reps and weight a bit easier so progression curve is better.

I got worried after lifting that much and checked the weight limit on the bench online since I was lifting alone. It was 500lbs combined person and weights so I got scared and stopped using it. I couldn't afford something stronger and ended up moving to a place I couldn't put a bench. I dont like being around people so I never got a gym membership. (of course not exactly the same, that is not really possible but i hope i got the point across)

      @@sleepstudyrelaxsleeprepeat6825 Yea i understand the point you are trying to make, and you are not wrong a lot of people will simply say "i have bad genetics" and then proceed to not actually try because why bother if your genetics are bad. I saw something almost the same when i started training, i started along side some friends and just grew faster than them and we even trained around the same time most days. So i get your point also what you said in your first comment, that we do not actually see people with average genetics get a following on YT and so on. Because most do not want to watch someone with average genetics, they will both be smaller, less lean and weaker than someone with good genetics.

    • @larsenconditioning6742
      @larsenconditioning6742 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on your goals mate it is not strictly about the amount, most people want to move and feel well and focusing purely on how big you are leaves a lot of holes. How much are you even doing right now, just so i can get an idea, and what are your goals with training? Id love to give you some pointers.

    • @larsenconditioning6742
      @larsenconditioning6742 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AlphaSigmaRichMan That is a little bit outside of my field i will admit, however in order to be a good fighter you need power and not just great stamina. Lets say you train 4 days per week upper/lower body style, 1 upper body day would be more power based and the other day more volume based akin to what a bodybuilder might do just with free weights though. And the same with lower body things like clean and presses are super good, med ball rotation throws as well, these are power based so you would want to be powerful and fast meaning lower reps without slow down of your reps. For more volume based we would have you train more around 15 reps maybe even more, because you need to be able to work while being under a lot of lactic acid for this you could trade the clean and presses for the normal military press and do 15-20 reps. Plyometrics are really good for fighters, again because of speed and power things like high jumps and box sqauts again with the focus on power and speed could be very good for you. As well as doing some long distance carries like a farmer walk, trains your posture and your stamina like nothing else.

      @@AlphaSigmaRichMan Would be better if you had a few things however yea, lunges, bulgarian split squats, pull ups, chin ups, dips, push ups. Clap push ups can be good to help you develop power, however you should master normal push ups first just so you do not fall flat on your face. So once you can do 20 solid controlled reps of push ups, you can start doing some clap push ups, a clap push up is like a normal version however you generate so much force you make your upper body leave the ground for a bit and then clap and catch yourself. Which is why say master normal push ups first, control on the way down and explode up, once you can do 20 good ones you can start practicing the speed getting up you should be able to generate enough force for your hands to leave the ground without moving them. Once you can do that you know you can generate the force needed to do clap push ups, however remember the point of them is power and speed so you shouldnt do them to a point where you start slowing down. However having some gym access would help you greately.

    Obviously, you hear what he says but you aren't listening. The vast majority of men live a harder life than the vast majority of women. It's an objective truth. You're thinking just like the women do. Yes, some women live a harder life than some men, but for the most part, it's the opposite. You need to start thinking logically. This was a good comedy skit, though. Well done! The comparison of fighting weight classes to women's sports was fucking stupid. And then you talked about the women and their periods being why it's harder for women's sports was even stupider. Obviously, you don't work out because you said that men can go MONTHS without a break. Good luck working out for 2 months straight without a break. You absolutely need a break to allow for the healing of the muscles.
