Leading and Engaging the Five Generations at Work
มุมมอง 2.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Leading and Engaging the Five Generations at Work
Good video but the year timelines seem off compared to most sources. Gen X for example usually starts in 1965 or 66 and goes through about 1979 or 1980. Most silents are in their 80s and 90s so I'm not so sure they are still in the workforce.
Thank you for watching and we appreciate your feedback! We use the date ranges the County has utilized over the years for statistical and reporting purposes. There are some Silent Generation members who still work and volunteer, including several at our workplace, so it’s helpful to understand them - just as it’s helpful to understand younger people entering the workforce.
Who Agrees, although Millennials do face criticism (often centered around generational differences), their adaptability, digital fluency, and social awareness are often seen as assets that positively shape today's culture and economy
We agree!
I hope the Silent Generation isn't still working. They're barely even alive.
Civil Rights work both ways. It calls for equal treatment at all times. DEI is contrary to Civil Rights. You do not have the right to try and write what you see as past wrongs on the backs of the people living today.
We understand your perspective, and agree that Civil Rights should ensure equal treatment for all. Addressing past injustices through courageous conversations isn’t about blaming people today-it’s about paving the way for a more equitable future. The goal isn’t to burden individuals with the wrongs of the past, but to prevent them from being repeated, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background, has the same rights and opportunities moving forward.
Greetings from India! Thank you for this content.
Great insights
Could you say the source please for your comments about millenials - e.g. that they are 'collaborative and teamwork oriented' - is this in relation to other generations and if so what is this based on please?
Thank you for viewing the video and your interest in the source material regarding Millennials. The characteristic of collaboration and teamwork is both a preference stated by this generation in surveys and studies as well as an observation of members of different generations. Here are some of the sources regarding Millennials’ preference for collaboration and teamwork: www2.deloitte.com/content/dam/Deloitte/rs/Documents/about-deloitte/gx-2018-millennial-survey-report.pdf www.maxpotenti.co.uk/post/the-dos-and-don-ts-of-engaging-millennials-and-gen-z www.villanovau.com/articles/project-management/how-millennials-can-bring-change-to-project-management/
Thank youuu
Thanks - Malaysia
Well communicated overview of a topic we all experience and yet so few realize. Thank you.
Thanks! Glad you found this useful!
👍
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
I feel so bad because just yesterday, a group of international medical students came to my school, and they were at the school hall. I was sitting with my friends and we were saying something and then i got up and said "That's racist." And very quickly, the medical students turned around and saw me and my friends. And the worst thing is I'm brown and so are my friends.. so i feel so bad that they probably think i was referring to them .. which i wasn't.. I felt so awkward and shameful.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Great work modeling one of the elements we explained in the video which was examining your impact over your intent. I encourage you to challenge yourself to consider how learning from and reflecting on this experience will influence how you communicate moving forward. Thank you for being open to self-reflection and growth.
Rebecca, I am trying to do this process now. Thanks for the push!
Your generational breakdown is not correct.
Thanks for watching and providing your feedback. Demographers can vary in the date ranges they assign to generations. We use the date ranges the County has utilized over the years for statistical and reporting purposes.
Gen x helped to create a lot of the technologies that millenials and gen zr's use!
And Boomers.
I have worked at the same place for 23 years. At one time I tried to participate in meetings but after having my ideas shut down like a leaking nuclear reactor i gave up. I don't participate in anything i am not forced to. This includes team building activates.
We are sorry to hear that you had that experience, but thank you for helping us underline the importance of making sure employees feel like they belong. We hope this video gave you ideas on how to foster a sense of belonging for yourself and to help others feel included. The handout linked in the video description may be useful as well.
Love it! Very explicit
Glad you like it!
Very well explained thank you
We are so glad this was helpful!
Years off, gen x to 1981. Mill to2002 or 04. Gen z still being born
Thanks for watching and providing your feedback. Demographers can vary in the date ranges they assign to generations. We use the date ranges the County has utilized over the years for statistical and reporting purposes, with those currently being born designated as Generation Alpha.
gen alpha started like a decade ago wym
Thank you very i like the explaination easy to understand❤️
Good overview but gen x is usually to 1979. I'm born 1976 and never been classed as millennial until now
Thanks for your feedback. Demographers can vary in the date ranges they assign to generations, and those born at the beginning or end of a birth date range may find themselves classified in different generations or “micro-generations” (such as Xennials) depending on the demographer.
This is a terrific overview.
For me I do not say Choices because when it comes it is denied or misunderstood. Then , I have to go to You Tube video's on the subject to guide or fix situation.
We appreciate you watching our videos to learn more and try to fix the situation. Everyone is different, and the more you can learn about yourself and communication and conflict resolution best practices, the more prepared you will be for future situations.
I have a way with words and experience so i can lowkey *control* (or however u wanna call it. I don't do it to control people, just to make them aware) people into becoming their best selves so less shit bothers them and they can get out of their cycles
You are right. It often takes others sharing their experiences and perspectives to help people realize what they can control, influence and let go of. Listening and asking open-ended questions is another way to help people re-frame their thinking. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. This was very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Silents aren't really in the workplace at-present as they are in their 80s and 90s.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. There are some Silent Generation members who still work and volunteer, including several at our workplace, so it’s helpful to understand them - just as it’s helpful to understand younger people entering the workforce.
They might be the greaters at Walmart
Love the examples, very clear and helpful. Thanks!
We are so glad that you found this video helpful. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share your feedback with us!
So relevant and so today!!
Thanks for watching!
your way to soft on them, a problem needs to be addressed and not in a hippy dippy way where we figure out peoples feelings. Heres the problem, heres what I would like to see in this amount of time and if your not going to improve remember Im the one sending those checks you cash so if you would like to continue to see those checks I suggest improvement
Thank you for taking the time to comment. It depends on whether your goal is compliance or commitment/engagement. The goal of the coaching method described in this video is to invest in the relationship with our employees and partner together for the best possible results, including getting buy-in and commitment moving forward. Different methods result in different outcomes.
Loved this! Thank you!
So glad you found it helpful! Thanks for your comment.
Thank you for this. A very clear and positive coaching plan.
Glad it was helpful! It's what we teach our leaders here at Henrico County, and we find it works really well.

Great work from a great visionary team!! I am proud to be associated with Henrico - Jeff Conley
Amazing, great job Henrico! So proud of you.
Henrico County Employees are some of the most dedicated and creative people out there! I have another example of how the folks at Henrico County Mental Health and Developmental Services' Employment and Day Services division have found creative ways of connecting with people who have Developmental Disabilities in our community. The wonderful people at Hermitage and Cypress Enterprises are often already isolated because of their disabilities, so not leaving their houses for several months to see their friends at their day programs has been particularly difficult for them. Many don't understand why they are staying at home at all. Staff tried to help with this isolation by doing many creative things. They drove by their homes and talked with them at a safe distance. They picked up shifts at their group homes. They continue to call folks daily to talk, and they created a TH-cam channel with over one hundred videos (and counting) to stay connected. These videos are generating so much positive feedback from families and group home providers. This TH-cam channel created a way to reach out to individuals, provide them with reassurance and activities to do at home and to see familiar faces of the people they miss so much. Staff even put together and delivered 50 marigold growing kits to individuals all around our community. Folks were able to follow the tutorial in the video and have something fun and different to do. You can check out this channel at the following link (You may need to right click and follow the link that way): th-cam.com/users/hermitageandcypressenterprises #thehenricoway
