Look I love realistic sci-fi spaceships as much as the next nerd, but this used to be an alternate history show... To place all of this in the 90's, _and to have the North Koreans even be in the race_ is just laughable

The show has so many cool ideas and strives for authenticity and fidelity, but then it has so many preposterous things that if you think about it for more than a few seconds it just become silly. North Korea sends a man to the Martian surface before anyone else? Some random african guy invents profitable fusion? Space hotel happens to malfunction exactly in such a way that it spins up faster than it's supposed to? Ed's wife cheats on him with some obsessed stalker who's also another astronaut? What? Huh? The show has a lot of cool and interesting 'what-if' scenarios and ideas but the writers strike be as a bit naive. The central banks that control the world just wouldn't permit most of these things to happen, so how do the show writers handle this? They just ignore it entirely. The socio-political-economic machine runs on oil, it's engineered by the cartels, and organized by central banks (and the DoD/Pentagon/CIA are their enforcers). Not being conspiratorial, this is how the world really works. instead the story gets bogged down by the most superficial-level of political gaming. They just explain away too much with "technology advanced faster because the soviets landed on the moon first" which is just such a big suspension of disbelief pill to swallow.

This is why I can't hear anything during the space shots. This show is so unscientific. Everyone knows there is no air in space, which means there is nothing to get in the way between you and the sound, that's why space is so loud. (That was sarcasm BTW.)

Explanations how solar sail was kept secret 1) counter intelligence. In world war 2 the British tricked the Germans into thinking they’d attack Greece and Calais instead of Italy and Normandy. 2) nasa could classify the info as secret and make it a crime to leak it. 3) nasa could make them sign NDAs 4) nasa could offer people a cut of the bonus for getting their first if they keep it secret. 5) even if it leaked, what could Helios or Russia realistically do about it.

A timeline where instead of 2020 today , we are at 1990s level progress? Or even 80s where millionaires meant working hard , computer engineers and not TH-cam starts today .
