Smaller wheel has to turn more than once to be as much as a bigger wheel .
Bigger wheel for more action and smaller does it faster but not as much leverage out of it so your a right

Dead battery? Check voltage to solenoid when you click the start button, check grounds? Had the similar kfx400 absolutely amazing machine, definitely worth fixing if the motors good!
Motor is good I think relay I switched couple out and had different results
