@@chariwater1 Hi @chariwater1. Thanks for commenting. Patti did a wonderful job working on The Dude CD with Quincy. I had to include her in this series.
Bro, you are suppose to thumb that bass, and you are missing the funk!!! You know that Louis "Thunder Thumbs" played bass on this one right??? Maybe I should post a video on how it's done!
@@tonylee1794 Wazzup @tonylee. Yeah, I figured that Louis Johnson Thumbed the song. I just chose to play it without thumbing it.
Nice bass
Hi @unphoque. Thanks so much. It's my Signature bass that I built. It's still a work in progress. But thanks so much for the encouragement. I appreciate it
Love is Eternal..✨️💛✨️
Louis is an admired bass player by young muscians in 1976. His talent is so replicated. Louis Johnson, you were loved by musicians. Bass master.
I stayed at Monk Montgomery's house for a week in '73. I play bass, but Monk showed me nothing. RIP.
Q, always took music to another level. From his "Gula Matari" album to present. 😊
Hi @Leroyholmes, you’re absolutely right. I’ve been looking at a lot of his interviews recently. I didn’t even know that he played the Trumpet in major orchestras led by Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton and others. In my opinion, His impact on the music industry is very similar to that of Miles Davis. Thank for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it🕶✌🏿🙏🏿
Perfect 👌🏾

Where’s the Sire???
@@benaberry578 Hey Wazzup benaberry578. When Marcus agreed with Sire to create the Marcus Miller Series of Sire Basses. He did so with the understanding and agreement that he would still be playing his Fender Signature Jazz Bass as well as the Sire Series. As a result of the Marcus Miller Sire agreement. Fender decided to them discontinue building the Fender Marcus Miller Signature Jazz Bass. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it

@@fernandovieiradecamargovie3217 Obrigado Fernando.🕶✌🏿🙏🏿
What kind and brand is your bass??
The Sunburn Bass that I use is a custom jazz bass that I designed myself. It’s basically a Squier Jazz Bass Body with an aftermarket unbranded neck. With a Specially Designed Pickguard. With an Audere 4 Band PreAmp. I’ve been wanting to build my own bass for quite a while. So it’s my Signature Bass. I also have a Marcus Miller Sire V5 and several other Jazz Basses. What style basses do you have. And if you have any questions about bass playing I will be glad to share my knowledge with you. Thanks for taking the time to comment
You are terribly helpful to those who need to give you a second look 👀. I am a new bassist, former lower brass musician and I am following closely!! My gain, their loss.

Wazzup @BrokenManLA. Thanks for the encouragement. That's a backing track that I chose off of TH-cam. It's an E Minor Dorian Backing Track for Bass. I went back and forth between the E minor Blues Scale and The E Minor Dorian with my Freestyle Solo.

Cool. Well done. Humble opinion of a beginner at age 67 😊
Wazzup @56lighthouse. Thanks for the encouragement. It's a great time to be a beginner on any instrument. There's plenty of free tutorials available all over social media. What sort of Bass and Amp setup are you beginig with?
@Avenuecool Thank you, Sir. I currently own 7 instruments. My collection includes a Fender Meteora, Fender Music Man Stingray, Yamaha BB735A, Squier P Bass, Ephiphone Jack Casady, Ibanez SR400EQM, Ibanez AFB200. Fender Rumble 40. I caught the bass bug bought so many in one year, love the beauty of the instruments. lol. I hope to have your skills in the future.
@@56lighthouse That’s a nice collection Dude. I have a few 15 watt Fender amps myself. Learn string muting, Scales, Modes and arpeggios. Once you get the scales and modes under your fingers, in your ears and understand how they relate musically. You can play anything you hear in your head. If you have any questions about learning bass, my contact info is on my website.
@Avenuecool truly appreciate the encouragement. Presently, I'm enrolled at Fender online course. I will definitely adhere to your recommendations. The Bass is an awesome instrument. I will keep you posted on progress. Thank you, Sir.

@@jeffkatt Hey @jeffkatt Thanks for taking the time to comment. FAZE-O probably didn’t get as much air play as it should have as it was released in 1977. As you know there was a lot of really good music goin on at the time. Teddy Pendergass began his solo career around that time. Shalamar was hot. LTD, Cameo, Prince, Slave, etc. just to name a few.

Cool man. Mind if i make a few observations? Just a few pointers from a old vet saxophonist (28+ years) to another
Wazzup @juanhincaple. My apologies for the late response. For some reason TH-cam held back your comment for review. I would be honored to receive pointers from you. And thanks so very much for offering.
@Avenuecool hey there! Not sure why it held my comment. But the first thing I noticed was how shallow the breaths you were taking are. If you were to take nice full deep breaths,it will help you relax on the horn and able to push through the horn. My advice, every day for part of your practice session, forget about anything else and just do long tones. As slow as possible hold a note going, haaaaa, taaaaaaa, taaaaa.
So, haaaaa (breath attack) 1 2 3 4, ta (light tongue) 1 3 , ta 3 4 (holding the last 4 long as you can). Then start again. I promise you, after a while doing that, your control and tone will improve alot. I'm gonna link you something of me playing to give you an idea where I am at in this journey
It also sounds like you could do well with a harder reed or more open mouthpiece. Sometimes resistance really helps too
@@hincapiej4 TH-cam is very strange at times. It used to give me copyright strikes on my own music. But thanks so much. I do realize that breathing is a difficult task for me so I appreciate your input. I use a 2.5 Strength Reed And the Yamaha 4C mouthpiece. I am considering upgrading my mouthpiece once I get more advanced on the instrument. I notice resistance when my Reed needs modification. So I don’t think that the Reed strength or mouthpiece are the problem. But I will definitely give the 3 Strength Reeds a try as per your suggestion. As for Long Tones. I usually do them daily for 5 minutes or so. But they get boring. So thanks for the lesson notes. I look forward to the link. Maybe we can do an online collaboration of a Jazz Standard with me on bass and you on Sax. I’m working on Round Midnight right now. Once again, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with me
Nice

My favorite Monk composition. Look forward to hear you play the whole piece
@@ChetanAhuja Hi and thanks so much for the encouragement. It’s my favorite song written by Thelonius Monk. 🕶✌🏿🙏🏿
Love the warm up. Sounds like a stronger reed would support you.
Hi @ricardoparedes3656. Thanks for commenting. It's not a stronger reed. I'm still using a 2.5 strength reed. The difference that you're hearing is because I spent the month of May learning how to Prep and Condition Reeds. And sorting through reeds to see which reeds produce the tone that I prefer. I'm using YINAMA Reeds and XIN ZONG Reeds. Very inexpensive but when properly prepared they sound great. Thanks again🙂

One of my favorite songs.
Wazzup @davidboyd0743. Yeah Dude. That’s a very beautiful love song. Thanks for commenting on the video 🎶✌🏿🙏🏿🕶
Coming from the land of funk of Dayton Ohio Faze- O, a very tight funky club hitting record 1977, if I remember I think with the Ohio Players that was producing this group, they had about three albums, wish I do have all of them in mint condition, this is what you call it straight up tight ass funk, so go ahead and roll you one and blow it, you definitely be vibing Ridin High
Wazzup @CharleyRobertson-bt4kl. You’re right, I don’t know what it was about Dayton Ohio during the 70’s. But there was definitely some Funk brewing with The Ohio Players, Slave, Lakeside and Faze-O. I love the simplicity of this song, Riding High. It leaves a lot of space for the listener to get into. Thanks for commenting on the post.😎
@@Avenuecool it ain't just Dayton, is Ohio the Land of Funk, you even got James Brown recording in Cincinnati Ohio at King Records, also you have the Isley Brothers, The O'Jays, Heatwave, The Dazz Band, not even mention one of the baddest fonkers himself Bootsy Collins also out of Cincinnati Ohio, as of Ohio oh yeah definitely the land of funk
@@CharleyRobertson-bt4kl Cool, I remember The Ohio Players had a song entitled OHIO.

Wazzup @garylau208. Thanks for taking the time to comment. During the 2020 Lockdown. I listened to a lot of John Coltrane and Julien “Cannonball” Adderly. Marcus is an absolute goat! 🙏🏿
Wazzup @trevorblair. Thanks for commenting. He is definitely in a class by himself.
Thanks man! I love it when Marcus plays "outside" of his norm. It might sound odd but his playing here reminds me of David Gilmour...yep the guitar player from Pink Floyd David Gilmour. Obviously not in his tone, I mean he is playing a Bass and not a guitar after all. It's his ownership and over all command of his instrument. The way he is playing is not at all predictable, but it sounds so dam well put together, like it all fits because he is making it fit. I have been listening to Marcus since he was backing Luther and to me there just isn't anyone who can play like him, its like he makes you forget that you are listening to a Bass Guitar...then he lays down something cool and reminds ya that he is in fact doing it on a Bass!
Hi @DD, Thanks for commenting on the video. I totally agree with you. Marcus is an exceptional bassist. He studied Jazz at as a teenager. Worked with MIles Davis at the age of 20 or 21. I'm sure that a lot of his improvisational skills defintely come from the time that he spent touring with Miles. Jazz Musicians never play the song the same way. Marcus has once stated that he doesn't always know what they're going to play, I'm sure that's the Jazz influence. And You're right about his work with Luther. Those Bass Lines are very uniquely Marcus. I've seen Marcus in concert on several occaision's. I really enjoy his Call and Response segments. Where he calls out one of the members of the band and they exchange musical riffs. Now that's something special . I'll be posting a Call and Response video very soon. Thanks for the comment.
