"God of the gaps" is a song about religious wishful thinking. The "God of the gaps" argument is a well-known fallacy oftentimes used by religious people in support for their belief in God. However, these lyrics take the term a step further - depicting religion not only as a fill-in for insufficient knowledge about the universe, but for personal failings and weaknesses as well. Whatever the case, God is always a "God of the gaps".
