Nothing but Drums is the place to go for new drum gear review, drummer interviews, and some drum fun. We also will showcase drummers from around the region of NC and a few national drummers as well. Nothing but Drums was started in 2000, here in Charlotte, NC and broadcast locally on Public Access 21. I will be showcasing a few of these earlier programs here on my You Tube page for you to enjoy. Thanks for Tube ing in.

This is a quick look at my new purchase. I have always wanted a Signature Sonor drum kit, and this one is better than I could have imagined.

Hey John! Thanks for this mic shootout/review! I’m a long time Audix i5 fan for the snare i5 on top sm57underneath but I like the idea of the size of the p4 let’s get together and talk drum mics soon!
@@BattleshipHughes Thanks for watching. I'm still getting use to Akg p4...not bad mic. Usually I only mic the snare from the top....it does the job n I'm lazy. Maybe you could help with some south side recording we are trying to schedule.thanks again.

Met her once at school kids. A genuine sweet human being whom was a Goliath on drums
I have one of this to play silent with mesh head and on live situation i use it on acoustic skin as an enhancer of my own drum sound and also as a synth loop playback unit for my backing tracks it's really usefull to have a silent click in the headphone that you are the only one to listen.
Horst Link Signature Bubinga Snare 14x6.5 - Legend!
You could probably get good sounds out of any drum, you know what you’re doing. I like the low with reverb too, sounds like a big 90’s shotgun rock snare in that tuning. I love the Tama StarClassic kits, but I’ll forever be a metal shell snare guy! Great video!!!!
@@AJK.630 thank you for watching thanks for the great comment
sonar...... all bubinga snare but it's 12 plies of beech. i made it in 37 seconds. good luck mate
That clear dotted head dont do this snare justice . A coated model wouldve been way better on it.
The best of your three..
This is a good snare drum , but the FIBES snare kills all! I am a huge FIBES fan.
@@SPY1964-LL I do love that fines snare for sure. I need to find replacement snare wires for it.
I prefer the FIBES snare. Billy Cobham Style!
This snare is crisp! KRISP! haha. I love FIBES. I have a four piece FIBES kit in black with a clear snare. I love FIBES as they resonate so well, and have a tympanic tone to them. I play very musically, and the tone of the drums literally sing. I liked the video very much - Liked and Subscribed!
beautiful Man! Cheers!
@@drummztones4373 thanks!!
The snare & Tom sound wonderful of course, but that kick is huge! Steals the show and not in a bad way
Thanks for watching, yeah this is a 22 DW kick drum. Not the 20" kick I have with this SONOR drum kit. I was just trying to focus on the snare drum. But your right this DW 22 kick does sound nice.
hey bro's/guys/drummers, i am looking for some cheap drums/gear , to play on or build , if you know anyone or anywhere out there , please help me find em , i only have email and this y.t. channel though and i live in central pa here , thanks > tom ! , OH i am a oldschool 80's drummer b.t.w. !
I always look at FB market place. People are always trying to unload used drums for cheap. You can find some good deals.
@@moondrums Reverb is good sometimes too.
Best demo and tuning of this Sonor on the whole YT
Wow, thank you for watching.
The inner and outer bubinga are veneer and not part of the shell plys. The snare mechanism is commonly know as a parallel action and this was never an orchestral drum.
Thank you for your comment. This is good information to know. I am finding out new things to this drum kit I was not aware of.
yes, the Signature series is basically the heavy version of the traditional Phonic series, made of Sonors most traditional beech wood shell. The heavy construction of 12 plies caused a lot of criticism of the players because of the lack of resonance and this caused Sonor to introduce the Sonor Lite series made of birch. Sonor stands for thicker shells and there are still a lot of enthusiasts saying that the heavy beech shell with bubinga outer plies is the best shell Sonor ever made (so does Horst Link, the head behind the Signature drums). There was also a Makassar veneer available. The weight of the drums comes also from the ferromangan-steel hoops. This kit was made for the eternity and every player played this kit (and snare) live on stage !
Wow, so much better from the bottom! Much closer to double head tomorrow sounds. The resonance of the shell really helps to give it body and tone.
Are the stereo or mono leads from trigger to module?
@@AlanBaker-l8k mono, the snare trigger when I use it can use stereo for rim shot's
What hi-hats are those? They look and sound great.
Yes, they are 15" Paiste power signature hats. They are perfect for my heavier bands.
'How to mic up concert toms', but you didn't actually tell us anything!
I was hoping to see them do a show in NYC or whatever, but it was just not to be. I of course knew Sara vaguely from Let's Active years ago, but by the time I saw Let's Active live in 1986 at The Ritz NYC, (downtown) the lineup was vastly different. I knew the Duo Jets from the famed Athens GA: Inside Out movie, which I owned the VHS copy of for years when it first came out. I've seen some of the Dex documentary on cable a while back. I'm saddened that both are now gone. I managed to at least see The Golden Palominos 3x live in their reunion period a while back, and I at least got to see the great Anton Fier live 3x since I'd also missed GP live in the 80s. Another fave drummer of mine. Meanwhile, Anton also passed away recently.
"The way that art starts to imitate life at end of a gun, on the edge of a knife." Awesome job bro.
Is your kick reso off as well
No. Just ported for a microphone 🎤
The Signature Spécial Édition ❤❤❤❤
Amazing set. I'm pretty sure, that's a Signature Special Edition from the 90's with the glossy laquer finish and the rubber gaskets. This complete set with matching snare is a rarity - I don't think, they sold many of them.
Good to know. Thank you for watching, I may do a special on this snare drum next.
@@moondrums I always wanted these drums and as mentioned above the ones I saw at my local drum store in Bubinga were not glossy, more of a satin finish. Fantastic sound. Listen to the intro to the song Soldiers by Abba, their drummer Ola Brunkert was a Sonor man.
Back in the early 80's, a Signature bass drum alone was $1,200
Yeah I noticed the snare drum alone is going for around 1500 to 2000 bucks on eBay.
Good morning, Johnny and greetings from South Bend, WA. Thank you for sharing those great sounding drums with all of us. Oh my gosh they sound so very very good.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Thank you for watching. These are classic, and I'm glad I could share with drummers who get it.
@@moondrums You are so fortunate to have gotten the opportunity to buy those wonderful drums.
That's beautiful 👌
Now, THAT is one sweet set of drums. Thank you for sharing this with us.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Yes they are. Thank you for watching. The previous owner took exceptional care for these drums.
Is Ringo falling asleep at the end?
Ha, probably.
HI, Do you still live in or near Charlotte ? I live just outside of Rock Hill S.C. My friend and I used to go to Reliable Music all the time !!!!
Yes. Charlotte is changing.
@@moondrums Yes it is !!! WAY too much traffic for me!!! I used to go to charlotte 3 times a day when I worked for one of the big heating and air companies.
are hose 1.6 mm hoops?
Standard triple flange as far as I can tell.
@@moondrums I just purchased a Bello fiberglass snare, my first fiberglass snare and these things can crack without losing body and tone yet capable to having that fat sound.
Apart from Buddy Rich, which others famous drummers used them..?
ZZ Top???? Totally guessing because they are from Texas
Billy Cobham. Graham Edge (Moody Blues) and others.
Thanks!
Thanks for posting this! Wow, Sara was such a real fixture in Chapel Hill, what a class act. Fascinating interview - such interesting, kind and thoughtful answers. Sara was a legitimate hero to many of us, this is great proof of that… She is missed terribly!
Thank you for watching. I really like this interview and was lucky she allowed me to do it. She seems so relaxed and at ease talking about drums and her passion for them. I think this is a great way to remember her.
Great video! So you run a line to your monitor but do you run a line to FOH sound for kick from the module or from your monitor? I'm confused 😂
@@onpole01 yes,sometimes
You guys just show that less can be more. Wow, what a great sound you put out!!!❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🔥
Hi John. I want to thank you for reposting this interview. My dad shared this with me a short time after he did this. Shortly after he passed in 2013, I searched and couldn't find it anywhere. I just happened to be looking for some of the videos of him while with the Glenn Miller band and doing Glenn Miller Time and there this was! I can't explain how good it is to be able to hear his voice after such a long time. Thank you for re-sharing this. Blessings to you.
Todd, I'm glad you were able to see this interview. I really feel like it's a great interview with your dad and I felt like more people should see it so that's why I put it up on TH-cam I'm putting some of my older interviews up on TH-cam little by little but this one is very important your dad was one of the finest drummers in Charlotte I thought and such a cool guy.
One of the sweetest,to be oh so sooooo talented, ever. Bar none. I always had fun with her
Rest in Peace Sara. You are an absolute legend in the Chapel Hill, NC music scene and I'm fortunate to have seen you play many times with all your great bands (though unfortunately not with Let's Active). It's also heartbreaking that Dex recently passed. Two of the all-time greats in the Chapel Hill scene who will be sorely missed.
Wow.
Thank you for posting this. Sara and her brother have been blindspots in my music-listening lifetime, and I am glad to be catching up to them. Both have gone far, far, far too young. What a sweet lady she was.
I'm glad you liked the interview. I was lucky she agreed to do it. I think this captures her in her element. Thanks for watching.
I first met Sara while waiting in line for beer at a Sun Ra show at the Cat's Cradle back in the early 90s. It was a long line so we had a great conversation. After she got her beer and went off to watch the show I thought, "what a cool person!". A few years later she was working at the Music Explorium which was where I bought all my violin gear. I found it interesting that in this interview she said she is not a teacher. I actually took some drum lessons from her and trust me, she was a great teacher.
That's awesome. She reached a lot of people. Thanks for watching.
That's insane! I would have liked to take 10 years of drum lessons from her! LOL And I'm a guitarist.
Great interview
Thanks, thank you for watching. I was lucky she was cool with doing it. So sad now that Dex has gone.

I got the standing height snare stand for my 12" practice pad rig and I love it, I haul that thing all over my house and yard one handed while its fully loaded, its actually increased how much I practice. I also picked up one of the cymbal stands and sort of regret it, I usually like to load up my stands with clamped on accessories or tilted boom cymbal stackers and the lightweight yamaha stand just doesn't have enough weight to hold anything off axis. Its a great light duty single stand if thats truly all you need out of it.
Awesome im inspired I have been using pintech triggers and Yamaha DtX modules and your sound is what im seeking.
nice tones!
Thank you. Thank you for watching
Damn. They sound great. As do your other drums! I think concert toms are due for a revival. They are so punchy.
I think they are trying to make a comeback these DWS are proof of that I believe they are fun thanks for watching
