Roeper is literally retarded.
Anybody notice that George and Elaine are his parents in this?
These idiots know little. They did not understand history, humour, zany comedy…. RIP, boring dudes.
My favorite of the trilogy
That Sinking Feeling was over dubbed with slightly less Scottishy voices. And still it was shown with subtitles in some theatres. The original voice track was lost for decades.
Love the shade from Gene:” these movies are appeal to the many virgins in the theatre watching them.”
4:10 *nodded Ebert, eyes flashing*
Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings both suck.
Robin is doing something similar to what Phil Hendrie is doing, only Phil has profected the art. No one is doing anything similar to either btw. Most radio and podcast hosts have dark tetrad traits and don’t have tbe patience or intelligence to do a show like Phil does
Roeper can go pound sand
😀
Probably gave a New Hope and The Godfather a thumbs down too! Wow 😮
I think Mel Brooks has made me laugh maybe 6 times total, 5 of them in Spaceballs. The clips Ebert picked out to exemplify him, I didn't laugh at even a single time. He's just not funny to me. Brooks probably hits for more people, but if his humor misses you god it misses by so far. It's like he goes for the most _obvious_ joke, every single time. Emblematic of this is the Blazing Saddles bean scene -- people laugh uproariously, but to me, that is just the most obvious joke you could possibly do given that setup, so it's not clever, it's not amusing, it's just... farts. Lots of people think farts are funny, I guess, but I think "You should get William F Buckley to kill the spider" or pulling Marshall McLuhan out of Mallet-Space to excoriate an idiot is way, way, way more clever and amusing, even if fewer people get it.
I always feel better just after doing it.
I see the that the term RETCONNING has yet to be coined yet. Also Roger Ebert perhaps paying homage to Ambrose Bierce once defined a SEQUEL as a "filmed deal".
Depeche Mode ❤
Ebert is upset Mel Brooks knows his luggage combination.
Bailey was the definition of the 70's term Foxxxy Lady 🦊
bailey and johnny handled this brilliant. gossip is a pain and they showed their busy body coworkers what for!
"So, Lone Star! Now you see that evil will always triumph -- because good is DUMB!" I loved this movie. It had some great lines from writers who loved science fiction as much as I do. Everyone condemned Spaceballs as a far-too-late Star Wars parody (including Roger), but Mel Brooks was smart enough to treat it as, really, a riff on science fiction media as a whole. And I thought it worked for the most part. I don't think Spaceballs would have come out as good as it did if it came out closer to the release of the original trilogy. Besides, Hardware Wars beat Brooks to the punch by over a decade. But you can never go wrong with mocking the "moichendizin! moichendizin!" blitzes that was initiated by the classic Star Wars trilogy in the first place. Ironic, that, considering that Lucas had no problem with Brooks mocking Star Wars so long as he didn't actually do merchandizing for it. Which was probably for the best.
I wonder if the knew missing in action 2 was meant to be the first one released. But since the second one filmed was a better movie they released it first. Hope that makes sense.
According to Siskel: If you want to see a good thriller don’t watch Silence of the Lambs watch Speed 2 instead If you want to watch a Mafia movie don’t watch Scarface watch Babies Day Out If you want to watch a comedy don’t watch Ferris Bueller’s Day Off watch Blues Brothers 2000 instead. PS I know that isn’t fair and I actually loved him and Roger. I just got riled up after seeing that review lol
I actually don't blame Roeper initial reactions. For one, he gave positive reviews to the sequels, and acknowledged he was glad to have seen Fellowship beforehand. Secondly, as much as I love Fellowship, I initially had a tough time accepting it as its own movie because the story isn't "finished".
Too cute 😍
and roeper was never heard of again lol
they said Harry potter is the better movie than LOTR. holy crap thats crazy talk
hard disagree with them. this is one of the best movies of all time. its hilarious
If you get the special edition DVD or bluray they have a lot of behind the scenes material on how it was made and they were damn lucky to finish it at all. This was a massive project the kind Hollywood had never made before and so many things kept going wrong but they got it in theaters somehow.
How she ended up with a douche like brolin is depressing. 😢😢
I like how you can tell his real disgust
I love her hatchet face. 🪓
Jennifer/Loni is getting trolled a lot in these comments. She was a bombshell, and so was Jan.
Lord Of The Rings is better then Star Wars.
Bailey was always hotter than Jennifer.
The way Ebert breaks down a movie has never been replicated. He’d be popular even today.
John Hughes was a genius. Gene Siskel was not.
I first watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit on ABC Family when I was 6 years old. Greatly enjoyed it but also scared me a bit. Wouldn’t even call it a Kids movie. It’s a hardcore PG movie that is for a Family audience but is a bit hard edged. Occasionally profane, filled with sexual innuendos, scary imagery and violence.
There's one problem with this movie: it gets so much attention that another of Jean Shepard's movies gets no love at all. The Phantom Of The Open Hearth is just as funny but I haven't seen it since high school when I caught it on WNET in New Jersey in the late 70s.
I haven't seen Electric Dreams and now I want to see it!
This song really fits well with this movie and i love it
Maybe they need to watch the movies they review more than once
Best trilogy of ALL TIME!
That sinking feeling is a gem of a movie.
Gene is an IDIOT! Lisa is a SUPER-smart ASS-kicker of a lady! THAT'S what makes the movie so much FUN!
Review showed he was simply behind the curve on the tone that Hughes was setting. He picked on scenes that worked much better IN CONTEXT of the tone and the flow of the film. Humans can simply "miss it" on occasion. It's a classic.
I watched until Siskel started speaking. I laughed out loud, commented and moved on. I just can't take him as seriously as he takes himself.
I agree with siskel, also i don't think the breakfast club is that good of a movie either
City Slickers is a great film Billy Crystal is fsntastic so is Jack Palance who won a well deserved academy award
I lost the bleeps the sweeps and the creeps
