Two Types of Newel Post Cladding sets
Hi, is there any chance you can show in one video how to scribe the stringer cap?
Can’t find this on your website
Hi Matt, thanks for reaching out! Please see the attached link for the sample packs, Is it a full staircase renovation that you're looking to start? www.fiximer.co.uk/product/oak-stair-renovation-sample-pack/
is it better to start from the top or bottom of the stair case? I thought installing from the bottom going up and installing the trad first and then installing the riser over top and cover the back edge? what are your thoughts?
Great question! Both methods can work, but generally, starting from the bottom and working your way up is the most common approach. This allows you to ensure that the tread aligns properly with the riser as you go, and it can make the installation smoother. Installing the tread first and then the riser over the top, covering the back edge, is a good strategy for a clean finish. Starting from the bottom also gives you a solid base to work from, and it's easier to handle the cuts for the top treads. Just make sure to measure carefully and ensure everything is level as you go!
What's the wood you are using please? Dimensions?
We’re using oak veneered MDF for this project, which offers the beautiful look of oak while being more cost-effective and durable. For the dimensions, they can vary depending on your specific needs, but we recommend checking our website for detailed specifications and options. Feel free to explore our product range for more information!
You show the screw being put in square to a square end (landing hand rail) rather than a stair hand rail that would typically have a 40° angle on the end. Does it need to be screwed in perpendicular to the end of the handrail (meaning the screw head would be at an angle in the fixing in the newel post), or perpendicular to the newel post fitting meaning it needs to go in to the end of the handrail at an angle (meaning the washer won't sit flush)?
Great observation! Typically, for a handrail with a 40° angled end, the screw should be driven at an angle into the handrail to secure it properly to the newel post. The screw should go into the handrail at an angle to match the angle of the handrail end, so the washer will likely not sit completely flush, but that's normal in this case. When using a metal fixing kit, it’s important to align the screw to the newel post fitting, so it secures the handrail firmly while compensating for the angled end of the handrail. If needed, you can use angled washers or special fixings designed for this purpose to ensure a secure and flush installation. Thanks for your great question!
How do you reattach the rail
Hi Carl, you can treat the newel post cladding as a new post, and drill through it as you would connect a handrail usually. Hope this helps!
First
What if you wanted to remove the handrail?
The fixing kit is designed for a permanent, secure finish, removing the handrail after installation could be difficult, as it’s intended to create a strong, long-lasting connection. However, if you anticipate needing to remove the handrail in the future, you could consider using a more removable fixing option or installing the handrail in a way that allows for future disassembly, such as with screws and fittings that are easier to unscrew or with a different type of connection. Keep in mind that permanent fixings will provide the most stability, but they won't be as easy to remove once installed.
Looks clean
Mate what material did you use for the template?
What kind of LEDs are being used and is there a tutorial for this?
I used lights from Amazon Haixin Small LED Spotlight 9PCS 12V 1W Recessed Celling Light for Kitchen, Stairs, Closet, Hallway,DIY Lighting Showcase Light Cabinet Downlight IP65 (White, 30°) amzn.eu/d/4kbgt0b

Hi, Do the newel post cladding kit come in any other colours / finishes, other than oak?
Hi, we offer a range of hard wax oil colours www.fiximer.co.uk/product/hard-wax-oil-colours/ You can use these to achieve a different colour to what you see on the video. You could also try a wood stain or if you do not want to see the wood texture at all, simply paint it the colour that matches the rest of your interior (you might want to also use a primer then, to make sure the paint sticks properly). Hope this helps!
What size nail.gun is recommended to complete stair renovation? Just getting prepared ready for my delivery 😊
Hi, this will depend on what you intend to do with it. We invite you to watch our full renovation guide th-cam.com/play/PLqxnV5MXmGxAvi1hKW7DBxcLKBY7ixBy9.html where you can see the full process from start to finish and the tools we've used, and decide if this will meet your needs :)
Nice, clean work, gentleman.

All good, but where is handrail?
Hi, good question! This would depend on whether you'd want a standard wall handrail or a nice balustrade (if your house construction allows for one) - but this would most likely need a whole series on its own, as we have many styles available - we might create a guide on this in the future!
Hi, which kind of oak is being used here?
Hi, we use certified European oak. If you're interested you can find all the products seen in the video in our shop at www.fiximer.co.uk For the steps cladding we also offer a choice of Prime and Rustic oak. Thanks for the comment. Absolutely - always use the tool that's most suitable for the job! We just wanted to make the guide accessible to novices and DIY'ers so we've tried to limit the number of tools being used here
