The Meier The Merrier Thailand Edition
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 3 เม.ย. 2016
The Meier The Merrier is a family of five who left Chicago in August of 2023 for a life enriching experience for our family. We wanted to take a break from the grind of corporate America and spend more time seeing the world, experiencing cultures, and parenting our children.
Episode 1: Steve & Jac's Top 5 (or 10) Favorite Places to Eat in Koh Samui - Thai Kitchen
We visited one of our favorite places in Lamai. It is gourmet Thai food set in an open air, unpretentious, and very friendly restaurant found right on the ring road. Truly a gem!

How to bring your pets to Thailand: costs and process.
that sounds like a dream; I brought my cat from Australia and we are forced not only to fly our pets only through Qantas but also mandatory to engage a pet agent which takes care of all the paperwork on the export side. I lived in melbourne and the only flights to thailand authorised to carry live animals are from sydney - so while I could fly direct to Thailand with thai airways my cat had to fly connecting flight to sydney, stay at a cattery overnight to then fly next day Then on the Thai import side I was forced to engage a pet agent also because I did not arrive accompanied by my pet...all up damage was around 4000+ aud from Australia and about 500 aud for the Thai agent It was all totally worth it :)
Yikes! I’ve heard The rules for Australia are quite different. But I love your positive attitude about the outcome!
Thank you very much! Nice video👍 I'm interested in learning about your life in Koh Samui.
That is kind to say. We are very new to making real youtube videos, but we are learning every day. I hope the editing does a good job of showing real life here in Saumui
That rude little 8 year old needs solid discipline! Weak parenting affects fellow passengers, think of others.
Thank you for your helpful comments! I won the bet between my husband and me about how long it would take for someone to chime in!
So, I looked at the prices for this ship and of course they had different price options, the least being a chair for roughly $40 US, but for a 21 hour trip that to me would be torture. They also had single person sleep pods for about $100+ US, then your type of room, which was I believe around $250, which I think is way too much for a small room with no bathroom. Please correct me if my pricing is inaccurate. It's certainly a different option if you want to get to ko samui. Thank you for the presentation.
I am trying to confirm pricing, but we also did this video, which may help. th-cam.com/video/3fAFlLT6yDs/w-d-xo.html
@@TheMeierTheMerrier Thank you.
yeah, some other fella did a video about it as well. He showed a larger suit, but again had no bathroom and was $350. I commented no way im paying that much for a room without a private bathroom unless I absolutely had to. i'd rather do a VIP night bus, with the larger reclining chair for a fraction of the cost.
@Gizziiusa Well, as a single traveler with no vehicle to put on board, I think it would be a waste of money. But they are a family of 4, so for the experience of doing it, it wasn't outrageously priced.
@@keithd1219 beds are too narrow. where are they all going to sleep ? I get it that one needs to experience new things, but sleeping on the floor of a ferry boat for my children isnt one of them...
wish we could come and do it for you :)
that is unbelievable! Wow!!!
Thanks Colleen! We have much more of this on the GoPro, but tried to pick the best few minutes.
My dog is 10 years old and has allergy , I am very scare to put him in a cargo hold . I am thinking to fly with KLM . During the transition from Amsterdam to Bangkok , it is a 5 hrs layover. The reservation agent said you can be with your dog and takes them for party or feed them . That is amazing.
That is amazing! I’m glad you had a great reservation agent who was able to get that information for you.
Very nice trip❤good luck to you and your family ❤
Thank you so much for your comment. We appreciate your kind words!
Love watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us "folks"....
Excellent! Thank you. Steve considered going back in and adding a pop up each time I said folks to make sure no one missed any.
Saving 3400 isn’t enough? I think asking someone to pay and take care is the cats is too much
Sorry, I thought I mentioned that we had someone who would take care of our cats for us for free. We just thought maybe someone would want to have the experience of living in an amazing villa for reduced cost. Unfortunately, the cost of water and electricity would have been very high for us to pay. To have someone stay there for "free" would have cost us much, much more than our current arrangement. It's always a balance between explaining things too much, which makes the video too long and not giving enough information and having people misunderstand. Cats aren't very demanding like dogs. It's a pretty easy responsibility.
Where does it arrive in bkk ? Can't find information
Rice Warehouse 1968. We just walked out to the street and caught a grab. Taxis were right there, too.
they always have to make it just a little more complicated, don't they!?! Good luck figuring it out, I hope you can stay if that is what you want to do!
This is definitely a Thailand thing.
The service is quiet… nobody is there to answer any questions at all. Not gonna recommend it.
Have you seen our recent videos? We discuss how to get a reservation and options.
Thanks for vdo.
You are welcome. We really hope it helps
Noope😅
it’s probably an older aircraft cuz thats what depressurization looks like on them
It's actually the cooling A/C when we were getting ready to leave. The air on the plane was humid.
Nooope
You know the wife was yelling at him before she made that funny face!
Hi 👋🏻 Im thinking of moving to Samui from the UK and bringing my cat. He’s an outdoor cat, so I was wondering if there are safe, quiet places on the island where he can roam free? Thanks
Sorry. I didn't see your note until just now. Our cats are indoor cats. There are plenty of friendly feral cats around, but I'm not sure they will be friendly to your cat. We do allow our cats outside on our terrace, but there is no way they can get down and now way another cat can get up. I think the short answer is cats roam free here and seem to be fine. However, there are feral cats and soi (street) dogs everywhere. Happy to answer anymore questions.
Hi, just a couple of things-import permit is not needed beforehand, you can get that on arrival but it is good to have the form filled out and with you. There are a couple of airlines that don’t seem to know this new (August 2023) rule and some people have not been allowed to board (Qatar and Turkish Air). Also, it is probably good to mention that what you did was ‘excess baggage’ and not ‘cargo’ (Cargo is much more expensive and needs an agent).
What a shame.
Is it true that I’ll need to get the Health Certificate within 10 days of my cat’s flight?
Yes!
It's a man.
so you didn't get your pet import and they let you in?
We did not get a permit from the Department of Livestock BEFORE we left. We did APPLY for it in advance and showed the application to the airline (the asked for it). They let us on the plane with the cats. We did have the USDA paperwork, which is much more robust (trip to vet, chip, vaccinations). We figured it was worth trying to get on the plane because the worst that would happen is they said we could not. We were told that if we were going to the Philippines, they would not let us on.
so since this comment, I did more research and ONLY pets in cargo REQUIRE import permit, otherwise all in cabin animals get it on arrival.... hope your airlinenew this. I may have misunderstood something, tho @@TheMeierTheMerrier
Such persistence!!
Story of my life.
Great video, I want to take my Shih Tzu to Bangkok from Arizona, we'll fly out of LA ... I know that Korean Air won't fly this breed, but my question is, do you need an 'Agent' in Thailand to fly your pet? Hiring a company to do this is almost $6000 and $900 of that is the agent fee
We did not have any agent in Thailand at all. Ours was definitely do it yourself.
Sorry to hijack this but Korean will take ‘snub-nosed’ pets as carry-on. Shih Tzus do not have a lot of options for travel 😞
Good advice.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey - that looks just like the Jacalyn I used to know!
