I live in Greenville, always wanted to visit the beautiful icons and design of this church, love the orthodox brothers and sisters. Praying for us Catholics and Orthodox to reunite!

Is this an Orthodox Parish, or a Uniate (Catholic Eastern Rite) parish? The term Byzantine was invented about 400 years ago by the Germans....

"God is With Us." Four simple words, but it is astounding all of the misunderstandings people derive from them. A very common one is that it means God is for us, that is, he is on our side, because of course, we are the good guys ... right? So, whatever it is that we happen to want, or decide we're going to do, naturally, God's in favor of it too. Another one is that it means nothing bad is going to happen to us. After all, if God is with us, and he is all powerful, how could we lose? ... how could we suffer? ... our favorite dreams and desires will be fulfilled, right? We need only turn to the epistles of the New Testament to discover what "God is with us," meant for the early Christians. They were hunted down and killed. We can also look to Roman history and learn that they often lit up the night by being turned into human candles, one of Nero's favorite forms of entertainment. Let us be clear, God IS with us ... and we are with God in our Christian journey. But we are warned by Jesus himself that we who would follow him must: a) "count the cost," and b) take up our cross and follow him. One of Jesus' names was/is Emmanuel. That word literally means God is with us. And, he was crucified by the Romans and the insistence of his own people, the Jews. So, be careful, mindful, and wise that you do not glibbly jabber about how God is with us. Be sure you realize the full range of things that can mean. We follow Christ BY FAITH, not by reward. Sometimes, life as a Christian sucks. We continue because we believe BY FAITH that ultimately, we will win.

As someone who loves orthodoxy and was born Protestant in Prosoerity South Carolina this makes my heart so happy. So beautiful

Absolutely gorgeous. And I'm from South Carolina only about an hour from Greenville SC I would love to visit this place. I was born Protestant but feel like I'm on a path to Orthodoxy. I've been interested in it for the past 4 years or so. The only reason I haven't walked that path yet is the fact that Im not that close to any Orthodox churches. I have to drive 38 or 40 min to Columbia or 45min to an hour to Greenville. And my little home town is all Protestant

Thought about something like this back 20 years ago when I first heard 'Idumea' on the Cold Mountain soundtrack.

One day I pray we have a North American Orthodox Church all our own, with our own traditions.

Oh my. This just pierced my heart. God is with us!
