We just started our LFL yesterday! 📚

These kits are very expensive and not accessible to those with low income. Might be a good idea to ask people to donate funds to provide kits for those who wish to put one in their community that actually need them but cannot afford them and do not have the skills to make their own. This could make books available to people who otherwise would not have access - which I thought was the point of all of this.

Would you use wood glue for the composite kits as well or another type of glue?

My question is what's the best way to install it outside?

I love these. Every time I walk by one, here in Austin TX (which is more often than you'd suspect!) I get a little dopamine rush.

You should work a little harder at getting these LFLs into more needful hands. Other than that, cool.

I would not put stickers, pencils, or bookmarks, in a cup loose next to the library. Most home improvement stores sell those rings you can use to put a metal cup in, then you can put it within a spot on the library it won't get rained on.

could you use a post hole digger for the hole, instead of a shovel?

I am the Steward of LFL 108221 and I built my library with my parents out of a used kitchen cabinet that I bought for cheap from the Habitat for Humanity Restore. we then put a roof some siding and weather stripping on it to keep the books dry. It has three shelves with the bottom having kids books, the middle having adult books and the top shelf having cd's, dvd's and magazines. Each shelf is labeled as to what is on it. Then out of scrap wood I found around my area I built a bench for people to sit on and read the books if they want to.

I am a LFL Steward and sometimes I might get a happy meal at McDonald's when I am not that hungry and put the toy in the library for the kids in my neighborhood to take. I also put in puzzles or card games for kids to take. CD's and DVD's also seem to move in my library. Around different holidays I also like to put the fun size candy out for people who come to check out the library.

I would just like to apologize for my crappy camera and microphone, that is why I am so close to the camera, and hopefully why my voice sounds so weird...that's what my voice really sounds like doesn't it...

Things I enjoy. The people who enjoy reading and donating. Things I don't: people cleaning out our books, most of which are stamped, people book dumping books and other low-quality items, and an odd lack of community. We saw a free library that had a note along the lines of don't take our books to put in other free libraries, they are for you to enjoy. Wow. Do these people support each other or compete. Um, last time I checked, the beauty of this is supposed to be that books circulate.

I hate it when people vandalize LFL. If the person(s) are caught doing it, they should have to pay for a new one and be forced into becoming stewards!

Check your local requirements for the depth needed for your post. Ex: if in a cold climate then you might need to bury it far deeper than in a warm climate. Ex: your local building codes or permits require certain/specific depths or stabilization efforts (hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, etc.)

Just started our program in the Lakes Region of Maine.

I definitely want to use the plant sale/swap idea for our little free libraries. The theme of 'planting the seeds of love' is such a cute idea. Would be well received in the rainbow community with the increased popularity of indoor plants.

We have two we got and already have community interest in getting more!

So I can put one on my front lawn up against the sidewalk? I realize that putting one at least somewhere on the street I live on would be perfect. Not only is there a bus stop for high school kids right across from my house, but I live on a busy road because there’s a school at the end of my street so it’s always busy and always get attention and foot traffic for not just kids going to school but all sorts of people.

What if someone takes all the books and returns nothing?

Can you pin one that doesn’t show on the map? I found one in my neighborhood but it doesn’t pop up on the map

For those who don't know you can add up to 10 photos of your library in the app and change what order they appear in.

Most people who seem to make videos online about these libraries usually get the name jumbled up. Even when the name of the organization is right on the front of these boxes.

I totally love Little Free Libraries! I contribute to them when I can, often with books from thrift stores or yard sales. I have found some wonderful books at LFLs, such as "Dewey the Library Cat." What a great way to promote literacy, and share favorite books!

That one read in color library outside of the kids center should be bolted down if it is going to be left outside so it never goes missing.
