100 Year Old Derelict Chimney Rebuild - Reclaim & Lime Mortar
มุมมอง 29K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Wobbly and partly digested by ivy - first on the list of repairs to do be completed! It took around 2.5 days to take the stack down, clean off the bricks and then rebuild the stack. In the next episode I rake out and repoint the base of the chimney.

This is the start of the mammoth task of getting this building into a usable condition. New chimney, windows, sections of roof, new doors and groundworks still to be done... watch this space!
Two Day Build and 150 Mile Solo Adventure - Pedal Paddle MK2
มุมมอง 1.5K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
The world's first amphibious Pedal Paddle recumbent bike boat capable of passing through weeds and shallow water without damaging the propulsion system. On land it converts into 'Road Mode' with a bike and trailer. The build took two days and features a very sturdy SUP by Two Bare Feet. Amidst one of the harshest droughts and heatwaves the UK has ever seen, I attempted to travel 100 miles from ...

Test and 150 Mile Solo Adventure Pedal Paddle 3/3
So simple and brilliant.
You need a rudder and a dagger board attached to the hull on the gunnel.
Wow what a job... Did you hammer bang it afterwards? Which type of urethane was used for the ballistic nylon please? Cheers mate, Wouter
love it
Please upload updates on new videos of restoration
More on the way 👍 finishing a boat build at the moment and then back on the renovation 🚀
How cool!
Thank you 😄🙏
Nicely done! I like the rig and also the photography and chill vibe. I subscribed 👍
Just finishing up MK3 before taking it to Scotland. Watch this space 👀
Refreshing to see someone who knows how to restore old buildings without destroying it! Awesome job!
Thank you 🙏🙏
Wow, you're doing a fantastic job saving that old stable! Looking forward to more x
🤩 more on the way!
th-cam.com/users/shorts0sKU1JPdN0I?si=HggmDeI68fvN-okY Someone's copying your content
Thanks for the heads up 🙏🙏 TH-cam have now removed it 👍
Love working with lime mortar it’s the nest
Really lovely stuff - seems very forgiving 👍

🙏
Great work
Thank you 🙏
Have you thought about outriggers for added stability ?
Yes… however I didn’t include them partly to test the basic stability and partly because they would potentially get caught on plants and trees in narrow and fast sections. I would probably opt for a wider board before adding outriggers next time around unless very rough conditions 👍
Cool. Genial system. go away and make it more compact. Congrats! You will need a ruder
Working on MK3 at the moment 👀 it may have got less compact but it does do other things too! The rudder system on this worked really well and I’d probably do the same again. Having it mounted further forward allows it to act as a keel in side winds and a side thruster when stationary. Also super simple.
Wow....i can see some parts 3d printed to make this even more efficient...good job...im impressed
🤩👌 soo much to improve! Would love to get my paws on a 3D printer at some point 🤓
Hi Ben, This project is so cool. I'm hoping to by a canoe this week and make a kind of the same Pedal Paddle. Did you use a Fixed-gear bike in the end to be able to go backwards? I was just wondering about that...
Hi there! Superb, there is a Facebook community group for builders if you fancy joining. Head to the link in my profile to get there. This setup is full fixed gear to allow for braking and reverse. The gear ratio could be changed in a few minutes. MK2 had a fixed gear setup but the ratio could be changed in a few sections with the chain stationary. Working on MK3 now 👀
Will be nice to see the progress of the place.
🤩🙌🚀
Wow, you're so talented. Looks like a lovely place to be in. Where is this? It looks like a grade 2 building. Have you bought the place or are you just doing it up? It looks amazing. I would love somewhere like this.
Thank you! It is in Sussex UK. Happily it isn’t listed 😅
I find quick motion or fast forwarding, whatever you call it, very satisfying…looking forward to the next video. It’s been a lovely building in its time
More on the way 🤓🚀
Slab on top too thin
1cm ceramic tile will probably outlast the rest of the chimney 👌
First time i've seen a chimney stack get built while standing on the ground...
The Cone shaped object is an old Fire Extinguisher.
👌🙏
Why use lime mortar then spoil it with grey mortar at top?????
Lime mortar would wash away far too fast…..
It was with great hesitation I used Portland for the cap however it is much more durable than lime and can’t be seen from the ground unless you look very carefully 👍
Aye the beds and perps get chunky with lime mortar. Burny as well.😊 Looks nice though.
😁🙏
worlds worst pointing 😭
First attempt 😅 plenty of room for improvement. Any tips welcome 👍
Nah he's probably used to looking at cement pointing and doesn't know that lime shouldn't be raked back
👌👌are you ex pro boarder Ben Kilner?
😄 I wish! That is another Ben Kilner - he lives in Scotland and is heavily into fitness training I believe.
Class 1 chimney
🤓🙏
Definitely a fire extinguisher, seen them before! 🧯
👍🙏
Really nice editing and explaining everything about the process. Now I just need a brick building to try it out.
🤩😄
Best chimney I've seen in a long time 🙂. I just wish the videos would be a bit longer. I could watch this for ages.
Thank you for the feedback! I have worked out short form content on other platforms but have yet to feel comfortable with longer form so I am keeping it as short as possible while my editing skills improve. I’ll be experimenting with longer episodes in the future 👍🙏
I was hooked after the first minute. Subscribed in a heartbeat. What a great project! And there's a canoe-bikey-thingy to watch, too, as I saw! Going to binge for a bit, I guess.
🥳🤩 more canoe bikey bits on the way too! Just about to start the build then off up to Scotland for an adventure 👀😄
Lovely bit of rebuilding that chimney Ben, I'll subscribe for more pls🎉
🥳🥳🙏
So exciting to watch your restoration on an amazing building. Keep the videos coming!!!!!
More on the way 😄👍
@@ben-kilner Yahoo!!!!
The lovely old thing at the end of the video is a very early fire extinguish hit the brass thing and point the other end at the fire. what a great building you have.
🤩👌🙏
I think it's amazing to see that they used the interior door "trim" to bar the door from the outside ( 0:31 )
😂😂👌
Your cone shaped object is a fire extinguisher.
🤩🙏🙏
Well Ben... this is your third video I have now watched. I am now subscribed and looking forward to some more good content.
🥳🥳🙏more content on the way soon!
Same. I'd like more as soon as possible - and proper lengths, not 'shorts'!
I can see potential and lots of hard work. Nice start. Be watching your progress and looking forward to your success.
Thank you for your support 🙏very much appreciated 🥳
I think the rusty cone is an old fire extinguisher, I can only see one example on google but you might do better.
🤩👌🙏
Looks like a great space, looking forwarded to seeing the progress on your shop build. Are you planning on living in there as well?
🥳🙏 just a workshop
Ben, Looking forward to your videos as i like to restore & build gadgets myself. It‘s a fire extinguisher the bit at the bottom of the cone is the plunger and the jet at the top I would either chop out one side of the floor or build up the low side as it will be a constant trip hazard in a workshop when carrying larger objects. Cheers Dave
Hi Dave, welcome to the channel! More content on the way. Thanks for info re. the fire extinguisher 🙏
Thanks for this , love that you're saving that beautiful building & you're clearly not afraid of hard graft , good luck in the quest , i'll keep looking to see the progress
Thanks for your support! More content on the way 🤓
What a lovely old building, looking forward to the updating.
🥳 more on the way!
Wonderful find. Looking forward to everything you do to it in future.
Thank you 🤩🙏
I love this as I love any kind of stonework. Also, I especially prefer rehabilitative work over brand new. I had no idea about the megapascals so thank you for that. Beautiful job and it looks strong and extremely durable. (subscribed)
Thank you 🙏 the MPa point is really useful when matching with bricks
the weird device looks like it could have been a device that blows air into a fire
I thought maybe a weed / water sprayer. Turns out it is an old fire extinguisher 🧯
Progressing very well. Very time consuming to repair the chimney but will be so nice to have it usable.
🤓🙏
Excellent that you know how to repair the chimney!
Learning as I go 😄🙏
Awesome building. I just discovered your channel, love restorations of old buildings, so hooked immediately. Once all the trash was cleaned out, it is pretty good sized. Should make a very nice work shop, even a small living area above.
👍🙏 thanks for joining for the journey. Lots more content on the way 🚀
