I'm Andy. These are my travels and adventures around the United Kingdom and Europe. All filmed on my GoPro, with exception to 'The Vault' videos, which were filmed on a Sony DCR-HC39E in 2008. All videos are edited by myself.
See videos for more information on the location, my thoughts, and official web address of the places I visit.

Just watching my videos is support, and very much appreciated, but it would be amazing if you would also subscribe to my channel, like the videos, and leave a supportive comment when you can.
What does the channel name mean: Smog On The Line?
The 'Smog' part is taken from the name people from Teesside are called, 'Smoggies', and the 'On the line' part refers to a train line, or a line on a map going from A to B (Travel).

Finding The Hidden 1800's Railway Station | THORPE THEWLES
I visit Thorpe Thewles train station as it is now, but also tell you its history, as well as talk about the two youngsters that blew up the Thorpe Thewles viaduct.
Thorpe Thewles is a village which had history dating back to the 12th century. Thorpe is of Danish extraction and means farm, Thorp, and Thewles was likely the name of a family that possessed land here in the Middle Ages: the earliest occurrence of the full name is 'Thorpp' Thewles' in 1265. The surname Thewles probably comes from the Old English theawleas 'immoral', though the meaning of the placename is the Farm of the Thewles Family rather than, as sometimes reported, the Immoral Farm.
Galfried de Torp was a landowner in the mid-12th century. Members of the Thorp family donated land to the monks of Finchale Priory. The Fulthrope family occupied the manor from 1346 to 1629 while the Kendals, the Sedgewicks, the Tweddells and the Blackstones also owned land from the 16th to 18th centuries.
Historic events include the earliest reference to Thorpe Thewles in 1265, the partial rebuilding of St Thomas Church (now a ruin) at Grindon in 1788, a school was built by the Marchioness of Londonderry in 1824, the Holy Trinity Church was built in 1849 but demolished in the 1880s, the railway viaduct was completed in 1877 and the station opened in 1882 and both the St James Church and the Wesleyan Methodist chapel were established in 1887.
Historically, Thorpe Thewles was originally settled in 1692 with only two farmhouses and has grown to have more than 182 households today. The train station is located in Wynyard Woodland Park, across the road from Thorpe Thewles village.

Great views and Ulverston is nice, but don't think I could get up there without a helecoptor.
@Ciara.Higgins-xz9im It is a challenging walk. There are benches every so often to sit and rest, which I took full advantage of.
Have you visited the Castle or the old train station at Richmond? I have been advised to visit the Abbey, but is there anywhere you recommend around Richmond? Let me know below.
Great film👍.It's superb to see all the everyday, working items are being looked after, not just the 'divas'. I believe one of the MGR's is the prototype, which worked many years carrying coal to the power stations. It did cause confusion, when its axle weight was different to all the other wagons in the train. So the the railway was very happy to give it away.
@@user-rc4eu1be7d It is great to see a good variation. Thanks for your comment.
I remember that blue Deltic when I was a kid when it was in the science museum London
@@glenharrison987 It was one of my favourites at Shildon.
It was on trials from Newton le Willows towards Liverpool mid 60s. Wonderful sight.
Newton le Willows being the English Electric works The Deltic a bit later than 1955 ? I remember seeing on Trial runs heading to Liverpool 62/63.
Shildon the Railway Town ? What do they say to that in Darlington ??
@martinanderson4721 I was going from information on the boards, and it states 1955. Saying that, I was in the New Hall, and it states one loco was 1948, but online states built between 1951-52.
My favourite loco in the video would be Class 40 D200
@@lewiscartwright3609 I think that's the first one I saw when I walked in. Very impressive.
What a great heritage railway and visitor attraction
Went to Shilden a few years ago, thought it was great, especially as it was free unless you wish to leave a donation. Enjoyed it so much I’ve been looking forward to going to York Railway Museum, made the trip this week. Shilden is better, York is still donations based and they have Mallard and the Bullet Train, but thought Shilden was a nicer place with more interesting exhibits. loved the Deltic and Winston’s funeral train.
@philipmyatt1458 The Deltic looks great, as does the Winston Churchill train. I have to agree that the Shildon museum is the better of the two, although I like York's North Shed.
Have you been to Richmond Castle? Have you seen the ghosts that are apparently haunting its rooms? Let me know below 👇
The Abbey is still there i believe its called Easby Abbey it is behind the old train station/cinema quite off the beaten path but worth a look if you ever go back
@@AWreckedIsleDysfunction8882 I assumed it was no longer there. I couldn't see it from the Great Tower, and I visited the old station as well. It gives me a reason to return, walk by the river, and give it a visit. Thanks for letting me know.

I bet they're both hard work to drive, not like nowadays! So cool though
The Black Five locomotive has so many levers and things. As you say, they are so cool to see in action.

Very nice indeed. But what is the wheel arrangement on #5000?
It's a 4-6-0 (10 wheeler configuration).
