Reef practice day, How do you do it?
This Saturday I did some practice and reef my sail baot. Reefing is when you don't sett up your full sail, but just a part of it due to the wind is strong. I usually set one reef if wind is over 14 knots, and two reef if wind is over18 knots. When sailing solo, you may do this even earlier.
Its easier to do in the marina or with engine and autopilot, but during a sailing race that is not possible, and you need to handle it without engine.

With a #dragonfly boat, you can do this more easily with single rope reefing from the cockpit, but with Corsair trimarans, you usually need to stand next to the mas, attach, and furl down and up your sail like in the video.

what autopilot are you using?
@@SamuelLanghorn raymarine st2000. Modified with a custom remote control. It's not the best but works OK. Sometimes we are friends. Sometimes not 😀

Nice race. now that we are coming close to Silverrudder have you thought about doing a video. on route planning and what you plane to eat underway, ETC.
I can make a video about what I will eat and gear I will use. But routing, I'm a beginner in that area and never sailed around Fyn before. Have too little knowledge to make any advice at least

@SamuelLanghorn yes! I ⛵️ sailed solo. Prep for the Silverrudder in two weeks. Yes, I was able to buy a pre used daggerboard. Saved the season! Will edit the full video this week. Lots of happenings.

Why use 2 plotters: the older Garmin and the B&G?
The Garmin has an 8 hour interanl battery, "when" my power fails on the boat. Also I use them to have different zoom level. Its a LOT of rocks and shit in the water to avoid in Sweden. I'm more comfortable with a backup... even that I did some fails anyway anyway

But Orust is the biggest island on the swedish west coast, then Hisingen and in 3rd Tjörn. 🙂

@@Sailingchris Vi väntade med att sätta genacker till Vannholmen, rätt beslut tror jag, vi gjorde 10-12 knop med bara stor och fock, när det tryckte på som bäst i Stigfjorden, toppade vi 14.5 knop med genackern, fick lite film från starten till en bit ut på hakefjorden, innan batteriet dog.

Dumb design. Just get a catamaran with a trampoline. It will be faster, safer, more comfortable, easier to trim and easier to trailer. For solo sailing stick with a mainsail only.
Yes, my design was not too good, and I got lot of trouble with the boat. It was a prototyp and ended up in the dumpster sadly.
I heard when someone contacted the coastguard on the VHF about this.

What are water and air temperatures? What do you use as a halyard? I use a 3mm polyester covered dyneema..... somehow feels a bit flimsy. But so far so good.
Isn't it the traditional way to make the wood swell to get water tight 🙂 indeed it looks it has been sunk for quite some time. I wonder how much the salvage cost the owner..... Fatman looks like a pretty hungry guy.

Yes they did a good job. The little boat was not sunken for long but started to grow quickly on it.

Very nica sailing - the best - light and sunny around the islands. X-79 - would be interesting to experiment with one - rotating carbon mast and fat head main + bowsprit and gennaker. Maybe some lifting boards to make stability. Smokers!!! .... yes!
