Brendan - You bring up a solid point, and it's definitely a hot topic in the mountain biking community! The shift in Rampage judging criteria has been a point of contention for many. The roots of freeride lie in line choice, creativity in using the terrain, and riding with style, rather than focusing solely on throwing down a bunch of tricks. But, as you mentioned, the recent judging has leaned more towards rewarding trick-heavy runs, which has changed the essence of the event. Bren's run probably represents that more pure vision of freeride-creative line choice and reading the terrain in a way that not many others do. But if the judges are favoring trick progression, riders like him can end up scoring lower even if they ride impressively in other respects. It's that balance between staying true to your own riding style and adapting to the criteria of the event. The way Swatch 9s highlights progression through tricks and big-air features seems like a possible direction for Rampage. If the event continues down this path, we might end up seeing a more trick-centric version of Rampage, just with the raw and rugged terrain of Utah. What do you think would be the best way for Rampage to balance both elements?
Brendog was never going to win being a monster rider, "he made it look to easy" whilst majority wouldn't do and they took the least time to pass his score when judges took more than allocated time for the rest, When did rampage become a slopestyle event?
I'm sure they want Red Bull helmets to win, but Cam did win last in a Monster helmet. Maybe it's time for a new build site?
I am SO excited for this year
Algorithm brought me here. One of the best interviews with Jordi
Thank you for watching.
Setting up for the majority of us is the key. An app using feedback from the bike is the way forward, although affordability is an issue when discussing the ‘majority’. Together with some coaching, this would be good value: more important than the frame, the brakes and the wheels. Not the tyres, but that’s a whole different discussion and may come back to join in that app with pressure sensors of some sort in the tyres and sensitive gps, front vs back of the bike. But now we’re back to affordability.
Hey maybe use the F word less, use some class, checked out early, no need for the vulgarity that much
Polite society considers swearing to be a vulgar sign of low intelligence and education, for why would one rely on rude language when blessed with a rich vocabulary? That perception, as it turns out, is full of, uh … baloney. In fact, swearing may be a sign of verbal superiority, studies have shown, and may provide other possible rewards as well.
@@insidermtb wow, that’s pretty pathetic and absolutely ludicrous but hey it’s your channel, I was hoping to check out good content but your inability to communicate decently does make it worth watching, best of luck to you
@@GordonA-Jr Why is the ones who don't like vulgarity that get the most offended?
@@insidermtb um gee let me think 🤔, cuz it’s offensive, wouldn’t think that to be too hard to figure out. Hey I get swearing is used and here and there, ok but when within the first few minutes of the program you are throwing around the F word plenty, clearly you don’t know how to communicate clearly, effectively and respectably without vulgarity which in my book and others I’m sure makes your content it worth listening to when I can listen to other content about the same topic or interests with much less vocal garbage. Again it’s your channel and it appears that you are accustomed to regularly talking that way so you do you. For me, I have to much respect for myself and others to communicate like that. Period
@@GordonA-Jr You claim that I don’t communicate decently, yet you can’t even talk to me without insulting me. The person you claim I am cause of my use of vulgar language to describe subjects on a podcast is exactly what you are. None of my vulgar language is directed at you. So why are you taking it as such? Research and data have shown that people use cussing as a sign of creativity and honesty and is a universal language. www.cnn.com/2021/01/26/health/swearing-benefits-wellness/index.html I cuss, that is me, this podcast is me. 1000 other podcasts are rated PG and have no honesty or actual flavor. This isn’t that type of podcast; we are more like going to a bar with your friends and talking “real talk.” None of that politically correct talk will be on this podcast; why? You can already get that on everyone else’s podcast and Instagram accounts. This podcast will remain different, and I’m sorry if that offends you.
great episode. may want to consider the amount of profanity used, a bit distracting.
Rae is Awesome! Great interview guys
Really enjoyed the interview. Thanks! And if you want to see something really gnarly, have a look at this clip of the first 2.5 minutes of her last MegaAvalanche. Absolutely smoked the snow section. Love, Proud Parents xx th-cam.com/video/IH_3HMiupjc/w-d-xo.html
Rae with 2 arms is a huge win 🥳
Super Gnarly story.
Sure, I'll be the only comment. Thanks for the conversation, fellas.
Thank you for listening John!
@@insidermtb It's my pleasure, fellas!
Great episode!
Thank you for watching.
I’m quite surprised to hear you say that gravel isn’t doing well. Where I live in the Midwest, gravel is booming. Every gravel race in my area sells out nearly instantly or pushes up the limit of racers. The shops in my area almost exclusively sell gravel bikes. I know people who do (casually) compete in triathlons on gravel bikes because it is more efficient to only own one gravel bike instead of a tri bike that collects dust when you aren’t racing. One piece of evidence that might be considered empirical, last spring Cervélo put all their mtn bikes on a steep sale (50% off). The Cervelo gravel bikes weren’t discounted which would lead me to believe they demand for those bikes are higher.
It makes sense in places like the Midwest, where it only makes sense to get a gravel bike. It's still doing good. But on the West Coast, when it's up against other forms of riding, it's performing differently than it was during COVID. E-bikes are still king in growth.
Killer pod 🔥
Thanks for the effort y’all! I really appreciate Sebastian’s take on the mtb scene. The mtb family welcomed me with open arms back in the day. That’s one of my biggest reasons for staying with it so long! Cheers 🍻.
Bella failed to mention (or doesn’t know) 😂, her Uncle Phil Tinstman won the X-Games Snow mountain bike Downhill event the first year. But more importantly, she didn’t mention her dad won the Downhill Mountain bike event in the very first summer X-Games in 1995. 😂😂 And collected a check from ESPN for 10 grand. Almost 30 years later the winners are holding up check for 2 grand.
Love the throwback content! The Winter X-games Snowcross back in the day was nuts. Would love to see some of the pioneers of the sport on the Pod. The Missile, Tara Llanes, Marla Streb, Leigh Donovan, Brett Tippie, Greg Herbold, Shandro, JT, Bender..... the list is massive.
Thanks for the feedback. We need to get those legends on some how. Will try to make it happen soon.
Did I mention Shawn Palmer? ;)@@insidermtb
Good shit fellas. I’ll tune in while I’m burning through a batch of steezls any time.
Thanks for tuning in. We appreciate the feed back!
Lol I like this one
It's feeling natural now. Thanks for listening.
Sick nasty
I've seen faster riders, crazier riders, and more winning riders. But IMO Johnny O is the best MX guy ever.
I was going to leave a comment but could not come up with anything better than yours. Very well said 👍
Ditto. The lifetime of personal dedication, determination, and intense professionalism. A rare gem!
