That was a High School (off Squirrel Rd) before it was a Primary School ... The Junior High was built in the early 60's ... On first it was Washington Street, then the name was changed to Waukegan Street. I grew up on Washington/Waukegan street. Across from the "Primary School Hills" ... a couple big hills, in the winter we all went sledding there and on the 4th of July they had a massive fireworks display. Squirrel Rd was only paved between South Blvd and Auburn Rd ... both North and south were dirt roads. The Bowling ally is gone, Pontiac State Bank, Fire Hall, Train lines ... I'm glad in 1979 after 9 years Army, I sold my home on Adams Rd and moved to Australia as an Art Teacher ... I met Greg Landry, Quarterback the 1971 Lions, in the Hospital visiting wounded solders in Vietnam... There he said how the lions were building this super covered stadium (Pontiac Silver Dome) ... I flew back to visit just before COVID, It wasn't the great village I knew growing up there! Side note; Most fathers in that town worked for GM, Truck and coach, Pontiac Motors, Fisher body ... the rest were in New Construction trades...
I have become an integral part of downtown Auburn Hills, not going to lie I absolutely love living down here and am a fan of all the development. I was 3rd runner up of the 14th semi annual Pat Sajak lookalike contest back in 2009
All I know about the big yellow house across from the ice cream shop is there was a girl named Linda Bowen that lived there in the early 60's. She told me that 'not so nice' things happened there. :(
This is Chuck Myers. Seems like every year I come back, something has changed. We lived next door to your Gparents on Squirrel Rd. I remember when your Gpa stopped delivering milk and Dad bricked in the milk chute! Great neighborhood. We sold Dad/Mom's house in 2016 after they both passed away.
Thanks for putting some color to the area, and giving us some history. Looks like AH is a city to look out for on the rise!
