Hi Rob, another great video. Bobby Hamilton title challenge took a knock back while Dale Earnhardt should close the gap to Davey Allison. Exciting stuff. Remember for your next race that the race leader does not retire on a failed mechanical check during the closing laps action phase.
Thanks for the reminder Phil!
Good stuff Max and thank you for your service!
Thanks Larry, it's a great quick game!
Great game, as usual. I really enjoy your videos. I don’t have the hardware to stream, but your videos always sound like the way I call my games in my head. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Thanks Bill! Happy Holidays to you and yours as well!
A few things I would add to this game to make it more realistic is a strength of schedule rating as well as a Team Offensive Rating and a Team Defensive Rating that would govern the 50/50 roll result more realistically. I would also add a Home Team Advantage on certain plays. Thanks for the Demo
Thanks for watching! All of your suggestions are great ideas and could be implemented easily, I think.
It never ceizes to amaze me that free games like this is great. I will have to check this out
It is a good one. Has great mechanics and a nice flow.
Hello, you should check out FDF. They have college and nfl seasons made by Al Wilson. You should put more FIB on your tabletop
Yes FDF is a great game!
This looks interesting enough for me to try it for a full replay, most likely 1972 since there are now more players per team in the updated SADV set than in the original set, which I also have. Just wondering, have you completed any seasons and how did the number of complete games compare, please? I'm more likely to just pull the pitcher once he fatigues. One more thing, if we are only using column 5 for the X chart, what do you switch the X results to on the pitcher's cards in columns 4 & 6?
Thanks for watching and the comment. No, I have not completed any full seasons, at least not in a long long time. I'm using an old chart from the seventies which only goes as high as 4 on the "x" checks. I misspoke when I said column 5. Sorry about that! That being said, if a pitcher becomes fatigued, all defensive x-checks are read from column 4, regardless of the defender's rating.
@@MaxCandD Thank you for the quick response. I have two copies of the basic X chart, one being the original one that I received with the game back in 1970. That one is, however, in tough shape. My first SOM set was a 6-team selector set from teams in 1969, which are one sided. The 1971 season set was the first set to have an advanced side.
That's some great information. I didn't start playing until 1978.
Thanks for the Game. Best Wishes to SMZ***Hang Tough my Friend.
Thanks Milcom! Keeping SMZ in our thoughts.
Spoiler Alert! Nice comprehensive win by Milwaukee. Always fun to watch them win, whether as Braves or Brewers. And always fun to watch Aaron have a field day out there!
Aaron was player of the game imo.
Interesting King of the Hill tourney !! Spahn made em' look bad
He really did, thanks for watching!
Backing up Sports Man Z on his play. Strength from Wisconsin, mate!
Thank You! Same from Pennsylvania!
Hi Rob, glad you dipped your dice in this little mentioned offering from Lambourne Games.
Hi Phil! Yes, I think I'm going to really enjoy replaying the 1980 Olympics.
The US team got beat pretty bad that night. It's amazing that less than two weeks later, they beat the Russians. I watched it, not live because the game actually took place before the prime time hours (5PM EST). The US team and ABC lobbied to get it moved to 8PM and the IOC was okay with it as long as the Russians agreed to it...which they didn't. LOL. One of the greatest sporting events of all time. The question I've always had: why didn't the Russians pull the goalie in the last minute or two? I think they were too stunned/proud to do it.
Thanks for watching and some great info! I remember watching that game very well, not knowing in the days before the internet that we witnessed the greatest sporting event of the 20th century in a taped-delay. I'm sure the Soviets were stunned and too proud to pull Myshkin. I know Herb Brooks was prepared for the goalie to be pulled, going down to 20 second shifts in the minutes before the end.
Like the Video…But, The Colonels played at Freedom Hall in Louisville…Lexington is 75 miles east of Louisville…saw the Colonels play the Nets myself back in 1974. Keep up the work.
Thanks for watching! According to Basketball Reference, that game was played in Lexington. It was the second of back to back games between the Nets and Colonels. I guess they played some games in Lexington, similar to the Sixers playing a few games in Hershey or the Celtics in Providence every year back in the day?
As the Gunner would say, We had 'em alllll the way!
Yep
Dick 66 just checked in . . .
You must be a Doors fan
@@MaxCandD Don't you love them madly?
I'm a fan 🙂
Where is that scoresheet from?
It comes with the game but I also believe it's available for free on the Clark and Addison site.
I'm sorry, I thought you were talking about another game. I found that strat scoresheet on one of the Facebook groups.
The ABA was cool. Watched it quite a bit. This is cool ! Oh yeah almost forgot, I was a Colonels fan. I remember Carrier and Dampier. Two great shooters
Thanks for watching! I didn't get to see too many games on TV but had a lot of ABA trading cards. Those players were mythical to me.
@@MaxCandD Do you still have the trading cards ? I never collected player cards but ABA cards is interesting
No I don't but wish I did!
Top of the First, Larry Doby, 5:25 minute of video, the roll is 3-7 not 2-7, maybe a single, not a strikeout.....
Thanks for letting me know about that! Maybe I need new glasses?
Great video. The bears let em back into it.
They certainly did, thanks for watching!
Hi robert...... I wanted to run something by you...... I'm not sure if you're aware of it but you know you cannot get hit by a pitch in the basic version...... most people I don't think care about it but it does bother me.... I thought of an idea of how to include a hit by pitch in the basic version...... I'm not going to play injuries in my King of the Hill tournament.... so every time an injury comes up, I am going to count it as a hit by pitch.... I'm not playing with injuries anyway and this way I can include getting hit by a pitch in the game itself... what do you think of that idea ?
I've never thought of that before but I like it! Great idea, Jack!
Early in the game, Bob Skinner was injured and replaced by Gino Cimoli. Yet, in the 11th inning, you used Skinner as a pinch hitter.
Thanks for letting me know about this. I do make mistakes from time to time. I'll pay better attention going forward.
Wow those last 3 challenges were intense! Good race and good video! Pulling for mark martin!
Thanks for watching. Mark Martin has been a bit of a disappointment so far.
Another great race. This is shaping up well for a cliff hanger title chase.
Yes it is, Phil! Thanks for following the season.
I really like this game
I enjoy it as well, Dave! Thanks for checking out the video.
Hey. If I'm the Tiger's manager, I'm protesting the game on the last play of the game. MLB rule 5.05(a) The batter becomes a runner when: (2) The third strike called by the umpire is not caught, providing (1) first base is unoccupied, or (2) first base is occupied with two out.
I was just adding some narrative and was wrong in my statement. The on card result was a strikeout.
Nice to see people playing basic mode. I like that the best.
I enjoy basic too but really have no other choice with these Oldtimer cards. They're basic only.
I was a bit surprised when you mentioned Cash's speed in the bottom of the 6th. I've known him for his later years where he just did not run at all. But 1961 was his high water mark for SB (11).
I was surprised with his speed as well, but he got a plus 2 since there were 2 outs, so I sent him.
So many costly turnovers. I've only seen that kind of bad dice luck once. The 72 win Bulls lost a game they shouldn't have. They just kept turning it over. Hopefully, the Colonels will play better in the next game. They have just a good a chance at scoring runs if i remember correctly.
Agreed. At one point, late in the 3rd, it looked as if they might stage a comeback but then more turnovers. The 3 Nets runs didn't help either.
@MaxCandD I'm currently working on 1977-78 for Uptempo. My first non-3pt season.
Strange question but I noticed when there's a foul there's no check on who the foul was on or am I overlooking that?
@@J-DOUBLE-A That is a good point. There is no provision in the rules to assign fouls.
@@ClarkandAddisonGamingCo Very nice! Any chance 1976-77 could be coming down the road?
So cool, dude!
Thanks for watching, JMK!
Are you playing actual lineups?
Hi Jack. No, I'm playing the lineup on the team cards.
When I saw you placing Dale Earnhardt in that top groove, I thought to myself he will win or finish nowhere. Glad it wasn't the second option. What did Bill France said about missing a round of pit stops 😂
Lol, good one, Phil! I don't know what happened there...
Love most of downeys football games. I try to do a rotation of football games when I do a season reply. But you're right, the lack of seasons leaves something to be desired, but I believe he's working on it.
Using a rotation of games sounds interesting!
Great video as usual. The bottom of the 5th presents one of those decisions that complicate c&d baseball. You know and I know you need to pinch hit for the pitcher because of those 9 fatigue points. But Al Dark doesn’t know from fatigue points, so I suspect that IRL there’s no pinch hitter. That said, I would have done what you did. It’s just an interesting conundrum.
Thanks for watching, Bill! Yes it's always difficult to "split your brain", if you know what I mean.
@@MaxCandD Yes, I do. You have to be Max, the Commissioner, and, in this case, Al Dark (no, I didn’t know - I looked it up), the manager. I said I would have pinch hit, but that’s only because I understand (I don’t have strat) that the basic game doesn’t allow a pitcher to continue when fatigued. I play cross years as well and use a different fatigue system geared to my game engine (pocket pennant run). But no matter what, you still get the “I know you’re tired, but your manager may not.” It’s interesting.
@@billh6038 That's a great point, Bill.
Thanks for doing this video. The only correction I would make is when there is a turnover. You look at the offense card after a turnover and defense or momentum does not apply to this.
I think this is my favorite Downey football game. Needs more seasons.
It is a great one, just wish they had more seasons available.
Thank you to you guys for supporting the game and making it come alive with your videos.
Of course Phil!
Hi robert.... I think you may have made a mistake In the top half of the fourth inning.... The giants had a man on third Who Was jim davenport. You Had to check the catcher's card x.And rolled a thirteen with yogi berra as a two. The chart said passed ball which should have scored davenport. You said the ball didnt get far enough away and he couldnt score. If he couldnt score, it would not have been a passed ball, so he should have scored.
Hi Jack! If I remember correctly, on the x check it said no runners advanced. I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time! Thanks for pointing it out. I'll go back and check.
Another tough race for kenny schrader. Still holding out hope he pulls off some good results in the final races
I agree, he has 3 wins but has struggled in other races.
Dang, so close for a second win. Go Dale.
He's making his move.
Hi Robert....I am 100 per cent sure that Hegan is oronounced Hee gan. He became a coach for the New York Yankees and all of the announcers called him Jim Heegan. Love your games Robert......
Thanks for the info, Jack!
Nice video. FYI it’s He-gan not Hay-gan.
Thank you, Bob!
This track wasn't too tough to tame for him. Way to go Ernie Irvan.
Two in a row for Ernie!
@@MaxCandD You were right in your commentary. The points standings should have a bit of a shake up following the Heinz 500. I think that it was the most DNF you had in a single race, as well.
Thanks Phil, yes, quite a few DNFs in this one.
Hi,Robert.... Just a note that in the ninth inning when the phillies had first and second and no one out, I would have thought a B u n t was in order There.... Not playing results but I actually thought that at the time of the Phillies having first And second and no one Out.... It was just a thought......keep up the good work robert and i hope the next game gets played soon......
Good point Jack
Hi Robert.... I love your games can I watch all of them and I watch repeat games too..... I just wish you would play more games more often.... I would love to help you out but I don't think you need any help you play the games perfectly.... keep up the good work robert!
Thank you Jack!
What a fun replay. I'm impressed that you can play a full game in less than an hour. Small footprint, which includes the full scoresheet. Might have to look into this one. 🏀
Thank you! Glad you liked it! When I first started playing this game, it would take me longer to play a game but once I got used to the flow, the games have become quicker.
You've been calling Jim Hegan ,,,Jim Hagen,,,we know him in these parts as Hegan
Ok, thanks for letting me know.
Nice dice box.
Believe it or not, it's the lid from an old wallet box.
Old timers Strat is still my go to. Those cards stand the test of time.
Yes they do. Thanks for watching!
Nice Race. Did you color the cars yourself?
Thank you! Yes, I used a photo editor to color the cars.
Enjoyed the race. How do you determine how many RED drivers to use in a particular race? Thanks.
Thanks again! I'm using the top 36 cars and some of them just happen to be red.
seems like a silly game to me.
It's definitely broken
