I appreciate the descriptive vs descriptive distinction. I note that the sermon on the mount has ten "graces" corresponding to the ten words in Exodus. 8 beattitudes + 2 "you are" statements. Descriptive, not prescriptive. Good summary from 1 John & Romans 8!

I used to believe that self sufficiency was a virtue, something to strive for. Now I know that it is a sin. Christ is my life. I don't always remember that.

Amen! Eternal life is not something. It is someone. That someone is Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:2 NLT This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us.

Romans 8:1-2 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Yes, you can stop. Not because of your ability to stop, but because of Christ's ability to stop, within you. Call on him when you are tempted, it works. Nothing else does.

Amen!! Salvation is not a result of works, but only faith in Christ. Works though 'are' an outcome of that faith, recognizing God's love for me, I will desire to allow Him to do His good works through me.

Sometimes we may not feel the presence of God, even as a Christ follower. But, never forget the truth. Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I do feel some partial truths being discussed here, but there are also numerous misguided belief structures, conjectures and speculations that are in disharmony with God's Truth.

We get sick sometimes from nothing but stress. Let's rest in God, all the time!

Your example of the vest, Jesus, that we are always wearing reminded me of something else that we are always wearing, and that is the armor of God, because that too is Jesus. I thank God for the armor, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that he gave to me at salvation, so that I can withstand the enemy.

"God wants to dwell with us for our joy." Such a simple, yet profound statement. God does not need us. We need him, and he knows that. Galatians 5:22-23 NLT But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
