The judges knew how much of a threat he was to Alex so they tried their best to put him down at every chance they got. You could tell they were as mad as hell that he had managed to turn that song into a wonderful performance and stick two fingers up to Carrie the bitch Grant and Richard Park

Both these contestants deserved to win any talent show anywhere in the world with their beautiful vocal tones but Alistair was robbed for Alex who, for all her talent, really didn't want the implications of victory. Just a few years later and Alistair's 'WGWG' style would have been considered the "cool" and "credible" one and the show and judges (apart from Robin, the most knowledgeable and experienced one, who always did) would have been championing him.
