Recreating an Orotone
In 1935, Texas was preparing for its biggest celebration to date: a world’s fair to commemorate the centennial of its independence. Centennial officials hired a young photographer, Polly Smith, to travel the length and width of the state. Her mission was to capture the people and places that made Texas unique. 27 of Smith's photos were selected to become a permanent part of the Hall of State by being turned into glass orotones. This video showcases the restoration of these pieces after the Hall of State building was struck by a freeze and flood in the early months of 2021. This video was produced by Mark Birnbaum Productions.

Excellent presentation on Robert E. Howard... a tremendously talented author and tragic story.
70s DALLAS COWBOYS AMERICA'S TEAM DOOMSDAY DEFENSE GREATEST ALL TIME !
Bob Howard is the greatest of all. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Wonderful. ♥️
Interesting historical note: Not sure if still occurring today, but for at least 6 decades following the 1934 demise of B&C, many a Texas Lawman have made an after dark stop by the Western Heights Cemetery on Ft Worth Ave @ Navarro St in West Dallas to p!$$ on Clyde Barrow’s grave. Allegedly one such stop occurred in 1992 following a few Shiner Boch drafts at the old DPA club in downtown Dallas.
I really appreciate hearing the memories and perspectives of these grandchildren. Thank you.
That’s how Texans act! We need to remember that today.
Clyde played any instrument he could get his hands on. He really loved the sax though, so that's why he was a known sax player. He played guitar, ukulele, flute, piano. Bonnie also played piano and sang.
I like this guy, because he tells the truths. Not the biased truths of the media.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome!!!
True women! I want to read that book again.
One of my favorite writers.
When is the next B & C presentation by Mr. Phillips at the Dallas Historical Society? Will Mr. Phillips ever offer the B & C bus tours again?
There was never a civil rights movement here in Dallas the big glass church downtown paid off or told the black pastor of Dallas that they will take care of them if they stop the civil rights movement from coming here
There was never a civil rights movement in Dallas Texas because the big glass church that’s downtown Dallas paid off pastors for the movement not to come here.
So I had to come back 😢. I absolutely am railing
Amazing, a wim brought me here, a very kind one.
No, Howard was not the first writer in that part of Texas and no, his stories have no literary merit.
Eh?
Nobody cares about the first writer from Texas thing, believe me. And what makes you say his stories have no literary merit?
@@miltcoon5515 Well, Howard himself did. And his stories are superficial, hastily written, with no attempt whatsoever at deepening the characters or at beautiful description. The philosophy too is extremely thin. Reading Howard is a complete waste of time.
@@ericadler9680 You express yourself very poorly for someone criticizing a prolific, respected and popular writer, albeit one whose fame and renown mostly came posthumously. Perhaps you fail to understand the nuance, subtlety and power of Howard's prose because you fail to understand the language of English. This assertion is evident within your response to me. Here are some excerpts from what you just wrote: "Or at beautiful description" and "The philosophy too is extremely thin". These nonsensical snippets indicate you have no business opining on an artist who you don't have the basic capacity to understand. Also, are you a Nazi? On your TH-cam page you were holding a book up with a swastika. I really hope not because I hate Nazis. So did my dad who was over there killing lots and lots of Nazis 70 years ago. My grandad too, who killed so many Germans in WWI they gave him a bunch of medals!
It's not for you. Fine.
All three of those guys bring back great memories. I was a Cowboy fan not because they were winners, but because the way they won. With Class!
pretty much polar opposite of the Raiders and 80s Redskins
Blind faith.
Howard’s writing has the same grain as the post oaks of his native country-side. You can bet on its resiliency and strength, just as you can with the wood of those trees.
I went to Val-Kill today; 8/21/23. I walked the grounds and found it fascinating. These stories from The Roosevelts Grandchildren are wonderful to hear. Thank you.
I hope the tataria crowd see this place. Lotta cool arc. On the buildings all along fair park grounds
Wow, thank you so much
People don't realize how much fire-power those B.A.R.'s gave B&C ....That's why Hamer told the posse that they were going shoot them on the spot, as soon as the verified who they were...!.
Thanks for supporting this authors work DHS, I enjoyed this presentation immensely. As a lifelong Dallas resident, I've heard of Bonnie & Clyde's connection(s) to Dallas for years through old newspapers but never saw the pathways, roads, and connections to the areas (Lancaster, Irving, West Dallas, etc.) as they are today. Very informative and interesting.
True expert!
Thank you for talking about Robert E Howard! I have always loved his work and have always been called to his stories. They're incredible, and his influence on modern literature is immeasurable. It's wonderful he's getting recognition.
EXTREMELY interesting
I love John Neal Phillips's work on Bonnie and Clyde. Anytime I see a new book or a lecture, I go right for it! He's an amazing writer and a great historian!
Great video, great information...Dallas history.
in 1972, on the dusty shelves of the USO located on RTNAF U-Tapao Thailand, I found the novels of Robert E. Howard, and have been a "CONANITE" ever since! Ave'! Mssr. Howard! I shall bee ordering this book soon.
Thank you for your service..rock on.
I've often imagine dogfaces in WWII passing thumb-worn copies of Weird Tales in troop ships and reading the adventures of REH on their way to war. Glad to hear you found sanctuary in those tales!
I just finished,"Blood and Thunder". Amazing book; Enjoyed watching Finn in action.
Great book...the definitive bio in my opinion.... finally throws the dirt on decamps misconceptions.
Skip pleasantries to 12:05 introduction
I am surprised that Eleanor was accommodating with serving vodka, especially how she apposed drinking due to it taking the lives of her father and brother.

Great work! This is where I had my wedding..and it is amazingly beautiful and even better after renovations.
43:41 is what the rest of the world needs to hear. "we don't have these divine people". America is number one because we keep it real mf!!!
I wish FDR and Eleanor were around to help with this mess we have today…..
What, Biden isn’t handling it efficiently?
Fdr? We need Teddy, his big stick, and his anti-trust policies.
Showcase Texas to the world ….rid yourselves of Cruz as any kind of government official….
And Abbott. Texas has become a huge joke in the US and the international world.
I find it strange that when they talk about their grandfather they say FDR and not grandpa or grandfather.
Rich people have weird ways to behaving. Teddy Roosevelt’s father had a wealth of $7M in early 1800s
Glad Cliff Harris STILL cares....Us fans still relive what could have been in Super Bowl X and XIII....including Cliff's taunting of Guerilla in X and going away from the Dorsett running game in XIII.
Wonderful to know that there are people in the world that understand that it doesn’t matter what color your eyes are or if your anatomy… you are a human being with a soul that does not believe it’s superior than to one with one different than yours. Don’t fear what is different than from yourself. That is your problem. Don’t condemn others for your own ignorant, concern.
And thank goodness now Hall of Famer Drew Pearson !!
This generation of Dallas Cowboys are the one the ones I grew up watching.
look into Tartaria stolen history. the great reset

This was wonderful to listen to.
Thanks for posting, very nice. Just a correction for your records, the first thing Clint Murchison did was not hire Tom Landry, he hired Tex Schramm, who then hired Tom.
