I caught them live around the time of the Slap album a few times, which I travelled for to small venues. I did catch them once or twice in my own town when they were playing songs from the previous two albums prior to Slap. In that scene I was hooked on Chumbawamba. Absolutely incredible show every time. Really immersive and much more than just a band playing their songs. I don't ever remember there being a 'stage' when I saw them - it was always level, and when the music stopped they didn't disappear. They would hang out and you could walk around amongst them, chill out and chat and talk with all of them. Very, very happy times i am proud i had the opportunity to experience. Thanks Chumbawamba. ❤️

I was the only person in the audience at a free festival in the late 80s/early 90s when Citizen Fish played at three in the morning, in the rain and it was only the singer. To be honest, I couldn't hear a word of what he was saying, but I was nodding along, totally wasted, and I think we understood each other. I was a big Culture Shock fan at the time so it didn't really matter, and I hope that, as the only person there, that I gave him as much support as I could while being too exhausted to dance. What came across, despite not being able to hear one single word, was that society needed to have more empathy. We both seemed to agree on that.

Pity it's so horribly middle class now. Was very different in the late 80s. Now it's just an alternative tourist destination for posers.
