The Rideau Canal Skateway
The canal was only open for skating 10 days in 2024 and in this video I wove together all the times I made it out on the ice! The Rideau Canal Skateway has existed since 1970, and when fully open reaches a length of 7.8 km. It's an iconic location in our city, and we're so thankful to have been able to use it this year. Last year it didn't open at all due to warm weather conditions!

Come along for a January walk in Gatineau Park! The Lauriault Trail is a 4.5 km loop complete with streams, waterfalls, a small lake, and a lookout! This nature walk also connects to Mackenzie King Estate, former residence of Canada's 10th Prime Minister (and face of the $50 bill). The Great Glen Way
มุมมอง 815ปีที่แล้ว
In April of 2022, my fiancée and I set out to hike one of Scotland's Great Trails: The Great Glen Way! We spent seven days and six nights on the 79 mile trail through sun, rain, and sore muscles. We absolutely loved this walk (even if some parts were secondary fun) and we're already thinking about where to camp and eat if we ever get to walk it again! If you're planning your GGW walk, please fe...
Dumgoyne

Was able to find a beautiful March day to go back and hike Dumgoyne! Apologies for the audio, this whole thing was filmed and edited on an iPhone 7 😅
Garloch Hill (instead of Dumgoyne)
มุมมอง 692 ปีที่แล้ว
Wanted to go for a walk up Dumgoyne, but it was a bit too snowy, so I explored some other parts of the Campsie Fells instead. The spot is a simple X10 bus from Glasgow right to the trailhead.
Pollok Country Park

On the 5th of January, Sam and I went to one of my favourite parks: Pollok Country Park, a 361 acre area of forests, fields, a river, farm, estate, and recreational trails located in the south side of Glasgow.

Back on the West Highland Way

After two months break to heal my knee injuries, I’m back on the trail to finish walking the West Highland Way! Part 1: th-cam.com/video/k5HiCdlRvoI/w-d-xo.html
Backpacking the West Highland Way
มุมมอง 4.2K3 ปีที่แล้ว
On August 16, 2021 I set off to hike Scotland’s famous 96 mile West Highland Way. Spoiler alert: I only made it to Crianlarich, which is about halfway. In October I went back to finish! Check out the video Back on the West Highland Way: th-cam.com/video/xaE3qgUUybA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks
Love the fun facts! I definitely missed skating on the canal this year. Can't wait for the warmer weather vlogs ❤
This was such a lovely vlog to stumble across 🥰
Glad you had a lovely day , the place that was shut off with the large metal bars is known as 'Wullies Nightclub'. I stayed in the town for 30 year's.
I love that! I'm from a small town in Canada, and I can imagine just the kind of parties that might happen at Wullies LOL
Awesome video Heather! The West Highland Way is definitely on my bucket list!
Thanks Alex! You definitely should! Even with a million places to go on my bucket list, I still want another round on the West Highland Way. Love that place, bad weather and all.
Sam and Heather. My wife and I walked this trail from invermoriston to inverness and I could not agree with you more about the cute couple that runs the Eco Cafe. Best food I had in Britain/Scotland in two weeks. Her eggs were fabulous and their mood was great. I read some crazy womans blog that did nothing but insult that cafe and the man and wife who own it. It was very nice to see a more accurate portrait from both of you. I had breakfast and lunch there and it was just as fantastic as you all reported.
Yeah, I have heard a few poor reviews of the Abriachan Eco Campsite and Cafe, and I think it might be mostly posh people that don’t get a wee bit of Scottish banter. Also some folks expecting a full meal to be the same price as a Gregg’s, which is unrealistic for homemade organic food! I’m so happy to hear you liked it there as much as Sam and I did, it’s such a highland treasure!
@@djbreakfast might be sad that my wife and are from america. I thought we had the market cornered on proper stupidity and arrogance. Good to hear that there are some abroad.
First
Nice video showing some of Gourock in sunny weather. I was up there today (Boxing Day ‘23) on the only dry - and certainly nicest - day we have had in nearly a fortnight. Took my wee dog up for a walk and the views were, as usual, fantastic! We went up and down the way you left - via the road, rather than the steps from the town side.
Sounds like we were both lucky to get some sun 😊 The road way is a good one! We encountered a lot of ice on the little winding path that day. I was lucky to visit Gourock a couple times when I lived in Scotland. Such a great little town!
Really enjoyable, thank you! Hoping to canoe/wildcamp it before I'm in my box!!!
It would be such a lovely canoe trip-So many great camp spots along the lochs and canals!!
🏃♀️🏃♀️ WHOOPY! SAM AND HEATHER ON THE ROAD AGAIN!!!
Those where giant hog weeds you saw at beginning of your video.
Thanks for identifying-such an interesting plant! Also, I love your channel icon with the sore foot statue 😊
My hometown 🙂
It’s such a beautiful place! 😍
I did the same on my first attempt only making it to Crianlarich beaten but the wintry weather . Year later i did the whole trip . brilliant .
Feels like such an accomplishment to be able to go back and finish! Glad we were both able to do it 😁
Dumgoyne is a tough wee hill due to its steepness. You are rewarded with beautiful views once at the top though. You looked buzzing coming off the hill ,looking like you enjoyed yourself. 👍
One of my most memorable hikes-what a gem of a place!
I love the way you did the intro, and telling the ladybug to have a nice hike 😂❤
Well done lady xx
I felt so bad when you had to bail at Crianlarich…then part 2 started playing! Yay! Just finished my own WHW in May. Had an amazing experience too.
Thanks Peter! Hearing about other people hiking the WHW makes me want to do it all over again 😍😍
Well Done..! See you next time :)
Loved the woolly mammoth!!
They remind me of my childhood in rural Canada, where we have them too! I think my mom called them fuzzy bear caterpillars 😊
What a lovely video and all your pronunciations of all the complicated Scottish place names were great 😊
Thank you!! I was very lucky to have great flatmates to help me study 🤓
Hogweed
So glad you got to finish it Heather! I loved the video! Your energy is so positive and joyous...even in the rain! My wife and I are headed up to walk the WHW in about 5 weeks and we can't wait! Wish us luck...and some good weather!
I hear May is supposed to be the best month for weather in Scotland, so I think you'll be in luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Also the flowers are just starting to take off here in Glasgow, so they should be in full swing by the time you're in the highlands! Have an amazing time!
You talk about your butt hurting. Do you have Piriformis Syndrome? I do, I keep it under control with 250 mg of Magnesium Citrate at night, Glucosamine in the morning, muscle relaxers when I need them and stretching. I’m doing the whole Way in June of 23.
I don't think I have Piriformis Syndrome, but I do hurt all sorts of muscles frequently from never stretching properly before or after hikes. Thank you for your advice. I need to take better care of my body!! Have an amazing time doing the WHW, it's so much more gorgeous in person 😍
Love your adventures 🥰♥️✨
Great vid Heather You can extend the WHW by doing the Great Glen way into Inverness, its a nice walk you should give it a go. Happy trails
Lol should have watched the last 15 seconds before commenting
I'm reading the trailblazer guide for that one currently! 😁
Fantastic.
Wow what a great video! I loved everything about it- your positive outlook, your sense of humour and such a beautiful signing voice! Would you have a suggestion for good hiking boots? I’m doing the hike in 3 weeks from now and would love if you are able to provide any recommendations.
Thanks so much for your kind words 💞😁 The best hiking boots are what you feel the most comfy in! The trail is very well maintained so you could do anything from runners to full on boot. I hiked in Vans Ultra Range MTE, which were just my winter boots I brought with me to Scotland and aren’t professional hiking boots at all 😂 and they did the trick fine! I picked them because I had already been wearing them a couple years and were shaped well to my feet already. The more broken in your footwear is, the better, as new ones will give you blisters. Also, expect to get whatever you’re wearing super wet though, so the easier to dry, the better! I would go on a big test hike with the shoes you’re thinking of before you do the WHW in them to make sure you like them. And bring lots of compede and Vaseline to take care of your feet along the way. I also recommend using hiking poles if you don’t already, as they help with stability and take a bit of pressure off your legs and feet going up and down hills. There’s also so many amazing TH-cam videos out there about hiking footwear if you have a little browse around. Have the best time!!! 🙌🙌
I feel for you seeing you in pain. I'm glad you where able to make it back 👍🌲 your videos are very inspiring as Ivhave had knee injuries in the past. I'm planning to walk the WHW but slower than you. 10 to 11 miles a day will be enough for me
Absolutely a better idea to go at that pace! If I ever do it again I will definitely try to cap it at 10 miles per day. I made the mistake of wanting to get the whole Way done in my six days off work, but this path is so beautiful it deserves more days to complete. I had to learn that lesson the hard way!!
You are my new favourite you tuber
What time of year did you go? Also pretty sure that tall plant is hemlock
I did the first half in August and it was fab, and the second half in October and it was cold and superrrr rainy. This video was the August part 😊
That's what my first though was too though I'm not expert. Hemlock is deadly, so better safe than sorry lol wide birth
If this were a Friends episode, I would name it "The One Where Heather's Hair is Everywhere"
I booked a hair appointment very shortly after 😂😂😅😅
Wimdy
Might be the wimdiest hike I ever did go on!
Loooove this so much and love you two are together rn!!! ♥️✨
<3333
That cute little spot is really cute! And so are you two!
Loved this video and this castle and all the cute unicorns and the fact that you did all this with a selfie stick. 10 out of 10 👍🏼
The selfie stick of SHAME lollll
Fantastic effort. I feel your pain. I injured myself training. But will be on WHW in May
Enjoy the way! I hear that's the best month to do it in 😍
Brilliant vid. Loved the camera shots and also loved that singing voice. Take care.
Thank youuu! That song was stuck in my head the whole week. It's so catchy 😁
Great vid. Sorry about your knee's. Looking forward to watching your other vids. Take care
Loved your video!! And your energy and humor and positivity is just infectious! Hoping to hike the way for the first time in October, and hope there are more videos to come :)
Thank you so much for the compliment! I always feel like I'm my best self when I'm out in nature And have the best time hiking the way, it's 1000% more gorgeous in person 😍🙌
Lovely very glad you got to go back and finish the West Island Way.
Thats just what I love about Scotland, if its good weather its beautiful, if its bad weather it looks beautiful
Definitely a bit of Type 2 Fun at some points during that storm (more fun to think about afterward than it was in the moment) lolll
Ah Scotland 💕 I especially love the names on the map, The Butney and Gairbraid 😁 makes me want to go to the pub 🍻 Very nice walk! I laughed when you said you were going to drag yourself out of bed and you got there at 16 😂
😂😂😂😂 grrrrl it has been A WEEK!
Well done that’s amazing, my wife and myself are hoping to do this next year.
Well done, its not as much fun without the midgies tho eh. 😀
Quite lonely without ‘em!! 😂
This is awesome. Best wishes from New Zealand Heather!
Thanks Lloyd! I think another international family reunion is in order once the pandemic straightens out 💖
@@djbreakfast Yes, absolutely! <3 that will be amazing
I went back to finish the way! New video out now 😁⛺️💖
Yas heather! So proud of you!
Trekking poles! Smart move!
Also: so many Amanita muscaria! I've heard druids used to eat them... But I wouldn't recommend it
@@6h057.x what happens if you eat them? 👀
@@djbreakfast bad stomach ache, delirium lol
Congratulations Heather. I'm glad you made it. Enjoyed the video thanks. Hoping to get over to Scotland from Toronto next year to do some hiking in my old haunts.
I was living in Toronto before Glasgow! Hope you’re taking advantage of all those ravine trails while you’re there 😍 If you need any Toronto trail ideas hit me up!
@@djbreakfast I used to live in Glasgow too- in the West End around Byres Road, Hyndland Road and Great Western Road, but alas, that was 40 years ago. I've always been torn between Toronto and Glasgow. If you're ever in the Aragon Bar on Byres Road, please raise a glass to me - I used to work there. I live in Toronto's Eglinton/Mt Pleasant area and have close access to a few of those Toronto ravine trails, but mostly I head out to the Caledon area for hiking on the Trans-Canada trail.
@@robinmuir7799 I stay close to Byres road! I’ll have to pop by Aragon and toast to you! 😁
