I may disagree on that reflecting on the current situations in Malaysia and my worldview but I appreciate it. Maybe you can elaborate more on that issue. Pertaining to the book itself, your review pretty much includes positive and negative feedback, which I enjoy a lot because it shows how deep you got into the book and at the same time you still can be objective. Water melon? A very racist statement to make at the beginning to anyone in your audience who is not Palestinian. Do you understand why the books were written in the first place? To teach 12-18 year old students about politics and war. Try to understand that all the Hunger Games books are not talking about any specific conflict but ALL of them. They always follow the same pattern. Armenians, Koreans, South Americans, women. Pick any group that is mistreated AS A GROUP and it is always the same.

I think the more parts I remember and see from the hunger games, the more parallels I draw between the hunger games and 🍉. I heard Suzanne Collins drew from seeing the Iraq war being broadcasted and then having to go to life as normal, so that could attribute to some of it. It’s got so many similarities to 🍉 that it makes me wonder how much she drew from the situation that she can’t/won’t talk about…

the scene in the movie where sejanus screamed about how the tributes were kids during the war reminded me of how zionists use the “voting for hamas” excuse even tho half of the Palestinian population at the time were just kids who werent born. Also the cognitive dissonance for the director francis lawrence to be a Zionist. Same thing w viola davis posting about standing w israel, esp seeing the speech of dr gaul lashing out on the screen about unleashing destruction and no victor after the kid died after the rebel bombing. . .

This really does need more views, because it's so insightful. I'm watching the whole Hunger Games series with my friend at the moment because she's never seen it before and it's been a slap in the face at how similar the Capitol is to Israel. Amazing how prophetlike you can appear by just learning from history.

I agree with you. A rather one-dimensional portrayal of Malay-Muslims (I'm biased of course, being a Malay Muslim myself).

I've just watched the netflix show and went on searching about the case. It's really hypocritical how they crusify Rachel about making money out of the situation but Anna's money frauds are seing as ok and even nice! But I do think they portraied well the anxiety and manipulation in Morrocco.

I read Does my head look big in this? by Randa Abdel-Fattah several years ago. Have you read it? I find it interesting in contrast, as the MC in the book chooses to use the hijab, and the family aren't crazy about it. Thanks for a very interesting video!

Another thing I forgot to add is how in our Malaysian community, if a non-Hijabi Muslim woman do something good, some people would immediately respond with "it's a shame she's not wearing a hijab". I forgot how I feel infuriated every time I see that because it's as if the woman's good deed doesn't count. I mean, all of a sudden people love to play God.

I enjoyed your review of this Persuasion adaptation. I watched this film with my daughter and could hardly wait for it to end. It was so awful and the lead characters were annoying. It's the worse Austen adaptation I've ever seen. I agree with you. It should have been titled something other than Persuasion because it bore little resemblance to Jane Austen's novel. It's a film that I will never watch again. UGH!
