I enjoyed watching these, and most quality British productions from these days. However I have a bit of difficulty believing Churchill included this much "liberal" politics in his history haha. I've never read his History of the English Speaking Peoples though, so I may be very wrong. He was an avowed imperialist after all, even though he did serve a stint in the Liberal Party for a time. I have no problem with a bit of preachiness, if it's a worthy cause. Dickens certainly wrote this way, and to great effect. It just doesn't seem Churchill's style

I feel extremely sorry for all the soldiers and junior officers who were let down by the senior officers and ended up dying because of the arrogance and personal ambitions of Chelmsford and Bartle Frere.

I'm a Scotsman and military historian(no love for Cromwell then lol) and I think for the faults he,happily admitted he had,was a good general,great speaker,perhaps not ruler material but I think he knew that. He will always be a divisive figure I think. But personally,if prefer him to the rogues in Holyrood and Westminster both.

An interesting version of the history of this flamboyant admiral but lacking in fact in some spots. Firstly, Lady Hamilton by the time of Nelson's late years was enormously obese. Secondly, the battle was shown with the ships far apart. Nelson took his two lines and crossed the tightly arranged Franco-Spanish line at point-blank range. But the idea was there, and the acting well done.

The quote Never Meet your Heroes seems to fit young George here very well. What the young man doesn't understand is Honor is to Duty, and not bequest to Personal actions. The Nation needed a Hero and a Rapscallion at the same time and Nelson was it. Collingwood would have lost the fleet as he was very strict to Duty but not Honor.

There was somebody who uploaded the same scene in 2017 which had the same words Olivier said in this video and the very words he uttered and now it's been pulled off. That's one of the things I find most annoying about You Tube; they keep pulling off videos and with it, go all the great comments posted about them. Why?

I read Nicholas & Alexandra and such a meeting between with Count Witte never took place as in this movie. Witte wasn't even Russian prime minister at the time of WWI.

At 49:11, does anyone know the name of the location used to represent Merton Place? It's a classic Georgian, but does not look anything like the extant drawings depicting Nelson's Merton Place before its demolition. The house shown in the movie looks very similar in exterior architectural style to the front entrance of the "Crane Estate" (not the more famous back facade facing the water) in Ipswich, MA, and it resembles even more closely the "Lakeside Georgian" estate by Charles Hilton Architects, in Greenwich, CT, which I find extremely appealing.
