Perfect 5 Quilts: Oatmeal Raisin Quilt- A Charm Pack Pattern! | How to Make a Continuous Border
Hello Quilty friends! In this video, I show you how to organize the blocks in the Oatmeal Raisin Quilt from the Perfect 5 Quilts book by It's Sew Emma. I am using a beautiful Moda fabric collection called Honey and Lavender. I also explain how to add a seamless border on to your quilt. I recommend cutting border fabric lengthwise when there are large prints. This leaves quilts with a clean look free from distractions.
I also show you some fun things I have been working on in between learning how to use my new-to-me longarm machine. And watch to the end to see a bit of my son's birthday quilt!
Thank you for spending this time with me and Happy Quilting!

    Lots of great info! Thanks! Different method than I’ve seen before, not only the double layer, but also the use of fleece. I really have never used fleece in my sewing or even a purchased garment, so i know very little about it, but isn’t it a kind of fluffy polyester? I may be thinking of the wrong fabric. If it is the polyester fabric, I’m having a hard time imagining that blocks will stick to it, the way they do to batting. Or do you pin to it? I’ve also seen people make these boards with cotton flannel and have always wondered if the “stickability” of flannel is anywhere near batting, and now wonder about the “stickability” of the fleece. Would loved to have seen a demonstration in use.

      Yes, fleece is a kind of fluffy polyester. It works so well because the fleece is slightly "sticky" and blocks will adhere without any pins!

    thank you. very informative. I have a question - couldn't you just use one layer either batting or fleece? why did you use both?

    • @quiltingwithemerald
      @quiltingwithemerald หลายเดือนก่อน

      The batting adds cushion. The batting would also tear up over time with so much use. The fleece adheres really well and is easier to clean threads off than batting. Using fleece also adds a nice clean finish ☺️

    Love how you've accommodated your new space restrictions. The closet looks like a very workable option. I'd suggest you add some lighting there to help when you're auditioning fabric and I'd also set up a big ironing station in there (again, well lit) so that you always have it available and don't need to mess with an ironing board. Something with storage space beneath would probably be a great option. Also, consider ways to store items beneath your longarm - especially that batting roll. The display walls all over the space are incredible. Your view is spectacular and glad you could put your sewing space near that window. Love the personal touches and amazed how quickly you've set this up after the move - YOU ROCK!

    This is a great video. I'm in Florida. I’ve wanted to go there for a few years. Unfortunately, my mom was my travel buddy. She passed away at 89. I have no on else that would go with me, so at this time I'm not going. If I can save up enough money, I'd like to go in the summer. I'd fly out, and rent a car. I do my traveling alone, I'd have to do some poking around at hotels, flights, rental cars, ya know, the basic stuff. Thank you for sharing your visit with us. Oh, I'll see if they have something going on in the summer.
