Saint Bertrand: The Bishop Who Defeated a Crocodile and Performed Miracles!
Saint Bertrand of Comminges was born in the year 1050 in the province of Comminges, located in Gascony, France. His life is a remarkable testament to the transformative power of faith and the divine calling to serve God. Bertrand grew up as a humble shepherd, tending his flock in the peaceful countryside. This simplicity of life seemed to prepare him for the profound spiritual journey that lay ahead.
One fateful day, while Bertrand was shepherding, he experienced a miraculous vision that would change his life forever. According to tradition, he encountered Jesus Christ, who called him to abandon his simple life and dedicate himself to the service of God. This divine encounter deeply moved Bertrand, filling him with a sense of purpose and an unwavering commitment to follow Christ. This vision ignited his lifelong mission to serve as a shepherd of souls.
After this life-changing vision, Bertrand pursued a path of religious devotion. He entered the clergy, where his piety, humility, and deep sense of duty quickly set him apart. His remarkable character and unwavering dedication to prayer and service earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. Over time, his spiritual leadership and devotion to God led to his consecration as the Bishop of Comminges. Bertrand assumed this role at a time when the diocese faced significant challenges, including widespread corruption and spiritual neglect.
As Bishop, Bertrand undertook the monumental task of reforming and revitalizing his diocese. He worked tirelessly to restore discipline among the clergy, emphasize moral living among the laity, and rebuild the faith of his community. Bertrand also initiated the reconstruction of the cathedral in Comminges, which had fallen into ruin. Under his guidance, the cathedral was transformed into a magnificent place of worship, symbolizing the spiritual renewal of the region.
Saint Bertrand’s life was also marked by numerous miracles, further solidifying his reputation as a holy servant of God. One of the most well-known miracles attributed to him involved restoring the speech of a mute man by making the sign of the cross on his tongue. On another occasion, Bertrand healed a blind man during the celebration of Mass, invoking the name of Jesus and making the sign of the cross over his eyes. These acts of divine intercession not only showcased Bertrand’s deep faith but also reminded his followers of God’s mercy and omnipotence.
Perhaps the most extraordinary miracle associated with Saint Bertrand was the resurrection of a man from the dead. During one of his pastoral journeys, Bertrand encountered a grieving family carrying the body of their loved one. Moved by their sorrow, Bertrand prayed fervently, and the man was miraculously restored to life. Stories of such miracles spread far and wide, attracting countless people to seek his intercession and guidance.
Saint Bertrand of Comminges passed away on October 16, 1123. He was canonized for his extraordinary life of holiness, miracles, and service to God. His feast day is celebrated on November 16th. Today, his legacy endures through the Basilica of Saint Bertrand de Comminges, a pilgrimage site that continues to inspire the faithful around the world. His life is a powerful reminder of the transformative power of faith and God’s call to serve others.
According to tradition, during Bertrand's tenure as bishop, the region around Comminges was plagued by a monstrous crocodile terrorizing the people. The creature, described as massive and ferocious, was said to dwell in the Garonne River, instilling fear among locals who avoided the area. The crocodile was blamed for numerous attacks on livestock and even people, creating widespread panic.
Moved by the suffering of his people, Bertrand sought divine intervention. The bishop, with unwavering faith, approached the river where the creature had been spotted. Armed only with his crozier (bishop's staff) and his prayers, Bertrand confronted the crocodile. Accounts say that he subdued the beast through his sanctity and prayers, driving it away or causing its death.

Donna - I just prayed for you particularly calling on St. Nicholas of Albergati (Carthusian), St. Didacus of Alcala, St. Charbel, St. Peregrine, St. Jude, St. Columba Rieti, and I called on all the saints in my home, which number around 1500 at the moment. The saints I mentioned, I held in my hands and prayed for your foot to be healed after that surger you had. As for who I am, I am just a lay man stumbled across some relics while I was looking for a Luna for a Priests Monstrance, I ended up meeting 5 people around the world who I call my "Relic Hunters", they get their relics from closed monasteries, convents, Churches and some seminaries... I try and get them before they hit the market.. sadly a lot of people sell relics.. which is a mortal sin. I work with several Priests and a few exorcists to provide them with relics for their ministry.

I also load my relics up into my car when i hear that someone is sick in my local area and i bring the relics to pray with the person and lay the relics on them and pray. @@chasingsaintsrelics You are just like St Didicus, humble. I hesitated to comment, but since I could not contact you directly I did so here. I didn’t even know AI could pronounce anything correctly, as I have heard a number of times when computer generated voices butchered a Saint’s name or place. With time and practice, your videos will continue to improve with the mighty intercession of the Saints whose relics you rescue. I loved your story of St Longinus. It’s healthy to laugh at our faults. No one is perfect but Our dear Lord.

@@allanweilert7185 That's beautiful.. may he rest in peace.. the name is close to another great saint, St. Didymus the Blind.. I have a relic of him and will be doing a video on him soon.

@ That’s interesting-I wonder if he is a twin like St Benedict & Scholastica? If so, could his twin also be a Saint? I’ll have to look him up. Didymus means twin(Greek, I think) like St Thomas the Apostle. There goes my eccentric mind…

I learned a lot this episode. The more I learn about the saints, the more they teach me how to grow in holiness. That's one of the reasons that I love your channel. You are doing great work here!

Thank you so much for the feedback. I have been wondering if I am on the right track with how I make my videos. I don't want it to be boring.. and I want people to get to know the saints on a personal level, to see their relics, to get to know them. I hope I'm on the right track. Its good to hear these things from time to time. =)

@chasingsaintsrelics honestly, I think that you are, but I'm a complete geek when it comes to saints. :) I like to see the old relic wax seals and paperwork because I'm interested in history and tradition. I also think that the personal stories are great. You can't please everyone, but I always comment so that you will show up on other people's feeds. One day you just popped up on my TH-cam feed. I clicked, watched, liked, subscribed and comment. I hope that this will help others find your calm, peaceful, love filled (for God) channel and it can help keep minds on good rather than bad for just a few moments. I think you're doing a great job. I haven't even mentioned that you are trying to keep sacred things from being destroyed. That's a whole different level of goodness! It's difficult times my friend, and you are definitely making a big difference in your own unique way.

Saint Scholastica pray for my sisters and all my siblings and mom and family tree. Dear Sir do you know anything about sator arepo rotas engraved on metal ring that used to be thrown into fire to mitgate it, the story of St Scholastica being called to during rain and storm brought that, i apologize if the my question is inconvenient. In Ethiopia there is a tradition of calling the Wonds of Christ as Sador Alador Danat Adera Rodas. i just wanted to know if there is any connection. Peace and Blessings

I have not heard of that practice before.. but it reminds me of St. Helena when she was bringing the true cross across the sea, there arose up a great storm and though they prayed, it would not subside. She and the crew felt that the ship was about to be capsized, so she took one of the nails from the Cross and she tossed it into the sea. When she did, the storm stopped immediately. So there must be a practice of faith like this in Ethiopia. God Bless! Is this the country you are from? My sister and Mom were missionaries for a year in Bondo Kenya 20+ yrs ago. Africa is a very beautiful land.
