I Have No Mouth... And I Must Scream - John Ottman - Benny's Exploration
John's Thoughts
"Harlan Ellison wrote the story from which this interactive CD-ROM game was based. This project was done after Suspects was completed, but before its release. I think I finished it before "Night Train" started. It was a lot of work, having to write themes for five characters, each having three different themes of their own depending on their state of mind and their setting. There were also transitory themes and filler music that looped for this sinister tale. It totaled about 70 minutes of music. Unfortunately the whole thing was done on General MIDI so it could play through sound cards. The irony: there was one theme in particular for the section in the game about a concentration camp and an evil German scientist, Nimdock. When writing the theme to Apt Pupil I adapted a brief motif within the Apt Pupil theme based upon this old theme. So it sort of had its day. Another theme in the game also was adapted to become a brief theme in "Night Train". So doing all those themes for all those characters was really a sort of self-created ground-laying catalog to go to for thematic ideas of my own. The funny thing about this General MIDI score is that if it were re-performed by the orchestra, it would have a huge epic quality to it. Hmmm, maybe someday."

I think many of the best scores done by about 10 composers on c64. I mean the sophistication and brilliance puts them at rock star status. How Rob Hubbard could knock out such compositions in a morning or afternoon is pure genius. We only now realize how unbelievably talented these people were.
Myth, specifically from this album, was the first C64 song I had ever heard. It introduced me to the world of the Commodores and SIDs and then into trackers on the Amiga. But even with all of that, I think this is the best track on the album. It just hits everything perfectly, on an already amazing song.
From 3:34 at the age of 47, I cried over the sound, the memories and my childhood at the same time. Beautiful.
Jeroen van beethoven 😂
I LOVE C64 😎👍
I LOVE C64 👍🥂🎩
I LOVE C64 👍🥂🎩
Maravilloso!
It's nice, but where's the fear? It needs that "you're gonna die" sauce.
Beautifully arranged for orchestra. Bravo!
Isn't it a bit too fast?
It's nice but I prefer the crude sounds of the original
Wonder what Jeoren Tel would think of this?
I'm pretty sure he helped arrange this
The string ostenatos remind me of a John Powell Bourne score.
Never thought the title music could be arranged, especially at the beginning, with such a dramatic change of tempo, transforming from a driving piece of action music to a thoughtful, deliberate meditation.
Also, slowing down the arpeggios let you understand/enjoy every single note better.

Awesomeeee
How cool is this :)
I'm working in a Metroidvania-like based in "Cybernoid", called "Exonoid (Ceccovania)". It's my tribute to Raffaele Cecco. For Windows, Linux, Android and Browser. Gameplay and menu videos in my TH-cam channel.
Sounds like dies lrea
insane game... magical music ..
if i never knew about monty on the run or the music from the game, i'd probably assume this was a song from the classical era of music this is a _really_ great orchestral cover
Truly epic interpretation
Another great piece of music :) I also invite everyone to look at my little piece of music @
I have to say the intro gave me goosebumps. Amazing! Brings back fond memories of my childhood :)
just great
This is by far the version that I liked the most.
Phew. Darn onions.
Could also fit to the LOTR soundtrack... "The Shire"
Rob borrowed from Philip Glass... www.whosampled.com/sample/73937/Rob-Hubbard-Delta-Theme-Philip-Glass-Koyaanisqatsi/
Excellent, sounds like it could be used in a Conan film
Maravilhoso!
0:00 Running With the Night?
sounds a lot like a yann tiersen song
WOW, this is amazing!
Unbelievable & beautiful! Great!
Thats the title music
Thanks for the upload! When I composed this at age 17 I never imagined it would kick it all the way to orchestra. =) Although it is what I had in mind when composing it on the Commodore 64.
You are the best composer :) I do not know, in English, how it is perceived, you are a very modest person! I wish you many years and success! You are part of our childhood in our hearts!
The best C64 composer ever! Thanks for your talent and effort!
Age 17? Respect ❤❤❤
I personally think that C64 tunes which were in fact covers shouldn't really end up here. Experiencing 2nd level of inception right know :P
Beautiful!
If you found your way here, you may be interested in the original 1981 song that inspired Rob Hubbard, "Shibolet" by Synergy (Larry Fast): th-cam.com/video/7HcTW-oOCCQ/w-d-xo.html I prefer Rob Hubbard's take, though. ;)
All 16 of the comments in here are cancer
Beyond epic...
Reminds me somehow of 80's Basil Poledouris scores like in the Conan movies, in fact as an orchestrated version this would fit better to a Conan movie than a scifi. Awesome track!
This song still giving me goosebumps every time I hear it. This version is also a masterpiece.
I like this. It has an interesting interpretation of certain aspects that make it worthy. It helps that the original is already a great example of structure and pure form melody to begin with of course but this version has been rather respectful of that all the while delivering in orchestra. It could have been quite badly handled had the arrangement been a little too literal resulting in just an inferior port of the theme etc with none of the original punch. This work serves as a good example how to sensibly approach this sort of thing
Damn, absolutely amazing... breathtaking, pure art
Could make a movie around this score. Genius music.
volumes are messed up, it ruins everything
Just awesome...
