Nice. Same here. What is the best way to catch Longnoses in lakes? I'm in Florida and surrounded by a lot of lakes. I know they could be generally found in shallow flowing river systems, but what's the best way you know to catch them from lakes?

Dude seriously that fish Did not weight 21 pounds!!! I have caught several over 59 inches inches and none but one weighed over 15 pounds, a 20 pound gar will be around 65 to 75 inches depending on girth, no offense guy....me and my brother specifically fish for them and catch several several in a year that size that 12 to 17 at the most man, we have caught 3 within 2 pounds of the nc state record

Also, what is your method of fishing?
I make homemade nylon rope lures out of a 10-12" length of 1/2" twisted nylon rope, attach as many strands of the rope you want in the middle with a slit ring and a zip tie.Wet it and cut to length base on experimenting. I fish it on 50lb Spiderwire Stealth with a bullet weight in front like texas rig worm fishing. No wire, the line will hold almost every time. I've lost one in particular huge ass gar when it's tooth must have hit the line just right.
How do y'all keep them from cutting the line? I always hook up on them when I striped fish on Lake Murray, and these are big gar like that one, and they always cut the line.

UHUngry i know a few places in west virginia that house smaller gars. Ohio river, Coal river, and Kanawha river have a good population of gar big and small. but remember the steel leaders lol.
