Finally hit the strategy from the previous world record holder's speedrun. This was fun and short, but very challenging. I wasn't expecting to break the world record for this category.

This does make me wonder what determines a rewind or “strategy unavailable” reset with these challenges, like, are they able to check for a specific state in the NES game’s code?
I've wondered the same thing!
With the strategy unavailable stuff I always imagined they edited the levels to have areas where you couldn’t enter

Huh, I tried to game over in 4-2 with the running out of time like you mentioned, but it brought be back to 1-1 when it game over’d
This is specific to getting a game over with a single death. I am not 100% sure why this happens but the game probably just checks whether you have 1 life left when you game over and if true then rewind.
