Thanks for the video. I have a couple of questions. What center stand did you use for your bike? Can you send the link? Is it a universal bike stand? What were you looking at to see the oil level? When wiping any excess oil do you just use a rang or do you also use some kind of chemical? I started riding this year and I'm completely new to doing my own bike maintenance. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
My bike stand is one from harbor freight, I always wipe oil off with a rag and then may wash with soap and water once the job is completely finished
@@DirtRider22a thanks for the info and quick response.
@ as long as when the bike is standing vertically straight you can see oil in the window you are good. Ideally right in the center, over filling can be as damaging as not having enough
Super informative thank you....
You posted this at the perfect time for me,,, I'm planning on getting either a Rebel 250 or a V Star 250 soon and i want to mount one of these boxes onto it,,, maybe big enough to carry two pizzas 😂
I’ve got some older Rebel videos that show the saddle bags I installed, looked and functioned good. Had to relocate the rear blinkers, not quite big enough for a pizza though 😂
" professional driver- closed course"
Of course lol
Filmed in Mexico 😂
Nice i have a honda crf but its only a 150f
Great video
I like it!!
Ngl I feel like electric would be nice leaving ur house without waking everyone up
That’s something I hadn’t thought of, specially since I commute to work at 5am lol
Strange that a bunch of reviews have Yamaha against Royal Enfield, CFMoto!! Folks those bikes can't be used in SW United States or Mexico.. average freeway speed is 80 mph .in Texas, California and Arizona often speeds are 85+ mph . don't think that a motorcycle that doesn't produce 40 horsepower is going to be safe..in US majority of riders are 180+ pounds, plus small amount of gear for camping, commute or light touring, having a bike that can't comfortably go 70-75 is dangerous..stop pretending!! Tenere 700 is the only bike of the 3 with any road manners
ive got that same four wheeler. is it hard to pop it up or does it just go straight up for you?
Pretty easy for me, 2wd model so a little lighter on the front
@@DirtRider22a ok cool. thanks!
How much oil?
Just under 1.5 liters of my memory is correct
looks awesome. i like that you addressed passenger comfort by running straps under the seat. the metal in the tail bag is a great idea!
@@wvadv I still need to find a solution for passenger seat, wife says it’s only good for about 30min lol
Bikes looking great! I just go a new T7 myself..
@@holdfast4588 enjoy it!!! I love mine
Who's gonna mod this bike to get it under 200 pounds?
@@MrSilus2000 if you ditched the headlight and odometer, and big tail light assembly and passenger pegs you would probably get it pretty close to 200lb
@DirtRider22a That's my plan but also somehow keep it street legal.
I've owned a lot of bikes over 40yrs. My DR is probably the simplest, most reliable, cheap to own bike I know of and still performs. Fun to ride.
"im not a mechanic"... yeah? thats ok. dudes got a bouncy house in his shop!!!
Gotta keep the priorities straight and manage expectations 😂
@@DirtRider22a no doubt. i have a rock climbing wall in my shop for the kids.
@wvadv that sounds sweet lol
Pretty easy job. I weigh 230-240lbs with all my gear, backpack, tools, etc, and the stock suspension is way too soft. I am gonna be doing both the front and back.
@@iDrive4fun93 if your that weight I would go ahead and go up to a heavier weight fork oil, I did that on my Yamaha xt when I did springs in it (it’s forks are even smaller in diameter than the Honda) and that helped a lot too on top of stiffer springs
@@DirtRider22aI will do some research and see what type of oil to get. I got a lot planned for my build, trying to document it as I go. Put a mirror on it today for the trails.
It’s not the machine that makes the rider
I have a 20% off Gaia Premium if you want to try that out. It's "overland" layer differentiates gravel, dirt, singletrack and pavement by color. I really like it and have found some fantastic riding with it. Also has land ownership, all recorded mines, weather, snow, cell coverage, wild fires and all kinds of things. I've personally found that I like to just make a route and follow it like a map and not use turn by turn. If you zoom to 500' on Gaia, you won't miss a turn. Seems like you just don't get the full adventure with turn by turn to me. The Gaia link should be on my latest 4 or 5 videos if you want to give it a shot. It's got a bit of a learning curve, but it's worth it.
Great ride!! So crazy how action cameras flatten out the ground. I also heard you talk about your "skill level". You can't ride a mile long wheelie and say you lack skill in the same video! 😂😂😂 Great video buddy!!
It’s all relative I guess lol I wasn’t the fastest or best in my friend group growing up and I’m not the most skilled out of some of the guys I still ride with but I am still glad I didn’t bring the big T7 on this trip, I could make it but probably not comfortable at the pace we were running at times lol
@DirtRider22a yep, agreed. I find myself picking the tdub if I even have a hint it's going to get rough. The Himmy will wear you slap out if it's rough.
Great video !!! had a Vstrom as well to heavy for playing around in the dirt for me, Picking up a xt today. feeling better about my decision after watching TY
I’ve got a lot of videos of my xt225 on the channel, can definitely say it might be the best air cooled small bore dualsport ever made
Fantastic review! Some people could actually earn a thing or two.
Keep that up and you'll eventually be squidlicious.
i'm still trying to wheelie the klr from five years ago!😂
@@wvadv 😂😂😂
Is it normal to adjust the choke in the winter
@@johnduncan1183 very possible to need adjustment between seasons. I was having to adjust it because I had filled up with ethanol fuel and previous owner had only ran non-ethanol which I didn’t have available near me at the time. Of course you can adjust it to idle higher and then when it’s very cold it will still probably idle high enough but I didn’t want to do that and as quick as it is to adjust I would just adjust according to seasonal changes
I have one of these and the engine explodes in less than 3 months of use :( fourth time fixing the engine
No issues with mine thankfully, 7200 miles on the odometer
@@DirtRider22a Nice, I'll fix the engine one more time and whatever happens, happens lol
if you take the speedo off does it affect the performance? Worried about ripping it off and messing something up.
@@stokeandspoke1177 no, a guy I work with still owns that bike all these years later and it’s still get ridden often, no issues at least not from removing the speedo, blinkers, and ignition key.
@@DirtRider22a nice, what year was it? I got an 06 and my friend said if I removed the speedo it would cause problems but I don't want it!
@stokeandspoke1177 mine was an 03 anniversary edition. You can find some other videos but I ended up removing everything but headlight and tail light. Removed the keyed ignition for a switch and button under the front of the tank, and then +3” fork leg extensions
@@stokeandspoke1177 mine was also carbureted, if yours is fuel injected then it is possible that removing stuff could cause problems, would just have to do some more research yourself into that
Cool ride. I also ride XT225. Thinking of picking up a KLX300 also. Great bikes.
I’m thinking about replacing the xt with the klx once I get my Tenere paid off
I been thinking about the making a windshield with a bin. How much did it actually cost and time taken to make it? Really enjoy my DR, great all rounder. Commute on it daily.
Maybe $12 for the bin
At the 9 min mark, what road were you on???
39 I believe
@@DirtRider22a Were y'all still in Buck's pocket at the 50 min mark?
@@DirtRider22aHave you ever ridden in Suches or over in Rabun County out Warwoman rd?
James Martin wildlife management area
@BrandonReed-cs3lf no, suches is on my list though
Man is your fork bent??
Not that I know of lol
I thought that too but think it's the fisheye effect from the camera
I love this bike. It will literally take you anywhere. The most underrated bike there is.
Man I hate I missed this one
I think you're right. I thought I wanted a T7. It finally hit me that it is way more capable than I am. I finally traded around and got a DRZ 400S with all of the good modifications. I have fallen in love with the dual sport motorcycle. They are so easy to maneuver and take a beating. I still want a nice parrallel twin powered highway capable motorcycle that you can take off pavement. I might buy a Honda Transalp, but these new 400-450 cc bikes may be the ticket. A new Himalayan 450 or 390 Adventure R are lighter.
@@GLHS592 I’m excited about the new 390
@@DirtRider22a Me too. It looks like a great bike. I am definitely going to ride one. Have you ever ridden the TN Dirt Devil? I live right in the middle of it. You should make a trip up here one day.
@@GLHS592 I have the gpx track for it but have never been
@@DirtRider22a The "official" route is a great ride, but there are better places to ride. I'm lucky that I can be on a chert road within 3 miles of my house.
@ that sounds awesome. I need you to show me around that area sometime for sure. We have a ride planned for this Tuesday around Bankhead. If your on Facebook you need to join north Alabama dualsport group.
That looked like a fun ride! Is there a GPX track available for this ride? Also, that little XT225 sounds good on video.
www.gaiagps.com/public/GwYARQ4v9ig80zadWB3fYb0A
Thanks for your honest video.
Always!
What phone mount is that? My brother has a quadlock but I don't want to buy 45 pieces and a case just to mount my phone lol. Also how do you like the Clarke gas tank? I'm eyeing it for my XT
Gas tank is great, phone mount is just a bicycle mount from Walmart, I’ve been using it for about 8 years on different bikes, never lost a phone out of it or had a camera mess up from using it
Did you upgrade your suspension ?
Yes, cogent fork springs and 15w oil
Nice!
Sounds like there's tons of power left. DOT mapping is locked if you added better mapping I think it would do much better
From the Dothan area, me and my uncle just got t7’s. Would love to join a ride, Alabama dirt riders on Facebook a good place to keep up?
@@RippinRhett-93 Alabama adventure riders was who hosted this ride, also north Alabama dualsport is a good group, and we have some rides a little further south from time to time
It was a fun ride but, I think you were having more fun than me :) Downhill was steep, slick and rutty...
😂 it was a little easier for me on the little bike I’ll admit
@@DirtRider22a I was on the KTM-390
@markbamburg6858 I wanted to ask you, which model 390 yours is? Spoked wheels or cast?
There was a lot of pride hurt on that ride it looks like. I've dropped every bike I've owned, it just happens sometimes.
Check your speedometer's indicated speed to GPS speed. Most motorcycle speedometers are optimistic 5 mph or more. Out of two dozen motorcycles in my barn, only one of them is accurate, an '87 TW200. One bike reads slower than actual, the rest read faster than actual.
How did the guy on the Transalp do?
He ended up doing just fine, I was surprised considering the stock street biased tires but he made it
@@DirtRider22a nice. I was just curious as I am thinking about trading in the TA for a lighter dual sport.
Lots of great tips there! I learned to wheelie my Honda 160 at 13 years old (I'm 68 now). It was fun learning to wheelie the different bikes I acquired through the years. I always needed to be on a slight uphill, because I never mastered using the rear brake. Really wish I would have. I think I'm too old now - but who knows - maybe I can learn on my XT225 in my twilight years! Thanks for posting this video, and all your other great vids as well! Take care.
"adventure ride"??? you are now calling a Ride, an Adventure Ride for some reason?? Why?
The group that hosted the ride was the “Alabama adventure riders” group. That was the reason for naming it that
Nice ride! I wanna go next time.
