Living the Dream bro. Massive respect homie!
Had a Mk2. Always loved Mk1s but never had one. Lovely car.
Time served on Fords. Cut my teeth on Mexico was paid to wreck one so bosses son could get a Capri. Loved the Mexico but it could spank you if you pushed it to far. Re-bulit lots of times.
My brother in law had one of these in Australia back in the 70s after I bought his 71 superbug off of him in 73 , unique driving experience . Gear stick is on a spring and touching the gear stick actuates the clutch via a pneumatic ram , so resting your hand on the gear stick is a no no . I found it easier to drive up steep hills than the manual not having to change down all the time and loosing momentum
Hello Rong thanks for sharing
Great video. Gary seems like a nice chap! Love the originals x
Hello Sally, thank you for your comments , do you own a classic Beetle ?

Thank you Kerbside do you own a Beetle ?

That is a seriously lovely car. Personally, I prefer the standard interior, but those seats look to be a really good fit actually and must have been appreciated all the way to Switzerland and back!
Thanks for commenting Robert
I love that interior, what a great idea.
Yes it works really well do you have a Beetle?
@@datbs I used to, currently looking for another as a project 👍

Very nice indeed!👍🏽😊
Thank you! Cheers!
I had one. A dark green one. I was allowed to drive up and down the pavement on our avenue. The girl next door used to put her feet on the seat and sit on the back while I pedalled her around.
Lovely story what happened to it ?
Hmmm.... Harry Potter should have had a Lotus Anglia.!
That would be interesting

Thank you for your comments Antony
In 1973 I installed a Cortina GT engine in my 105E station wagons d added Consul Classic front wheel disc brakes and much larger tyres. The car would easily do over 100mph and could out accelerate the local MKIi Jaguars. It was painted standard Ford white and looked standard except for the larger tyres. A fun machine! MRees
What happened to it ?
I sold it to an ‘old man’ who didn’t realize what he was buying! Cheers M
My brother owned and raced a methanol injected 105 in Australian asphalt speedway in the late 70s occasionally he would test drive it on the street with me sitting on the floor hanging into the roll cage open exhaust 2 gears hardly any brakes and the smell of racing fuel it was Amazing 😅
Wow sounds scary!
Lovely bit of work a labour of love is evident here
Yes it is
I built a1600 cross flow Anglia and it went like a rocket.
Do you still have it?
The Lotus-Cortina looked prettier imho !
This is awesome
Thank you MPslotcar
Great video
Thank you MGB learning
When I was serving petrol at a garage in Surrey around 1964 a Ford Anglia Lotus pulled on the forecourt. The man and woman in the car said they worked for Ford and that the car was a factory special. It had the standard speedo binnacle, but like this Anglia it was calibrated to over 100 mph. I was wowed!
Interesting story thank you for sharing
The Lotus Cortina was a better choice. And they built it.
I actually know and remember this car when it was new. It originally came from Skippers of Burnley which was an RS dealership at the time in Burnley, Lancashire who also was a Rallye Sport dealer. I had a part time job there as a car cleaner while I was in school (worked for Charlie). I recall this was in the main showroom for a few weeks before being placed into demo service and remember this specific car as I was the guy who put the number plates on it. The RS saleman was a D^&k though as I never got to ride in it when I asked. There were a limited amount of RS escorts that came through the dealership, and Skippers did manage to get only one Capri RS3100 as I recall which was Modena Green, remember that car as well. Had a great time and learning experience there and owned and loved classic Fords ever since. Very glad to see it made it back through the years.
Very interesting story Mark and amazing that you are connected to the story , do you still have a classic
@@datbs Yes, in fact I have a 1974 Escort Mk1 1300E (purple) imported in 2004 to the US, in addition to a 1978 Cortina 2.0 Ghia imported in 2006 and a 1960 Morris Minor that I imported last year. I can send photos if interested, would also like to ask a question or two about HCW. Is there a way to get in touch off-line?
@@markjordan5303 yes I would please send to downatthebarns@gmail.com and we can put you in touch
That brought back some amazing memories.. My first ever car.. Healey Sprog-Eyed Fright.. I experienced that same problem.. Hard leaning through the chicane at Castle Combe, something caught my eye in my left wing mirror.. instant thought ..somebody's lost a wheel (and half-shaft).. then as I straightened up... Oh Dear :</ Sadly, no photographer. When you replaced that 1964 engine.. did you go for a later 5 bearing crankshaft or stick to the earlier 3 bearing? My second car was a brand-new 1966 B Roadster but didn't have the money to sort out the handling.. too much understeer.
Hello James , here’s Pete’s reply to your question It sounds like we had a mirror experience but with the good luck of a photographer 😜 Those kind of moments are etched in our racing history and fortunately we can talk about them without having suffered physically albeit the wallet took a pounding to fix it 🤣 With the engine rebuild we used a “ new” block and 5 bearing crank for greater integrity 🤞 It’s amazing the power that can be extracted today, complying with the regs but using more modern, lightweight, stronger materials and the development capability of our engine builder. In 1964 a race spec FIA MGB would put out around 90hp and today, whilst it is a closely guarded secret, our engine will put out at least 50% more power and a progressive torque curve as well. Handling - we were once told that racing a B was akin to trying to steer a boat around a race track. Thankfully we have tamed the handling, again with development and technology combining to provide a relatively stable, progressive platform to race, but like all race cars, if you aren’t 100% on the case and respecting the car and the race environment , it will very quickly demand your attention to get it back in shape !!
@@datbs I'll be watching :>)
ford angland, differant marketing.🙂
i remember going on these as a kid at the fairground. and being jealous when watching the norman wisdom film. 😪
Hello Ian, yes also felt jealous about Norman Wisdom having a car that could drive in a road 😂
This should have been part of the Lotus family
Thanks for commenting
❤
Ford should have put it into production
I remember the 1960s when Victoria Police had Ford Anglia's. One was "bounced" off the Kerford Road Pier by kids as the Police left their Car to investigate..🇦🇺
Did you know the front bumper off the Ford Anglia was used on the lotus Europa.
A late pal had an Anglia fitted with a 1500cc engine and it went pretty well. I think it's a shame that affordable rear wheel drive cars are mainly a thing of the past. Some of today I could mention, mainly Teutonic offerings, come with two extras nobody wants - limp mode and crippling bills.
What a weapon👍
Back then where I worked we put several twin cams in angliars, it was a common mod. As has been mentioned Jim Clark describes that car in his autobiography. Ford used the Cortina because it was their latiest model and they wanted to promote it. The Anglia was already outdated by then.
Thank you Tony for your input
25k!!!!!! Some people have more money than sense.
You need that opening theme to set the stage
Copyright issues I’m afraid Paul if I did
Awesome model
Had a 1600 cortina in one in no in the 70s when I was 16 mad now i think about it
My first car was a 1967 Anglia ... had a breathed on Motor, with wider tyres ... broke the camshaft in it, outrunning a cortina owner with a superior attitude ... :-) breathed on it some more, and yes had near to 90 when the diff developed a somewhat loud harmonic vibration :-) ...
Nice.... one of those "if only" cars
Yes it is
I LIKE BOTH THE CORTINA AND THE ANGLIA .
Yes both iconic
Back when I was an apprentice, going to work on the bus around '69 / '70 there was a self-built twin cam 105E that was famous in our area of Fenland U.K. it was green & purple metalflake colours. It used to fly by the bus and disappear into the distance. I think the owner was Rolly Woodrow. Don't know if he's still around. A year or so later, (by now, I'm driving) and I'm at the local Ford dealer (now gone sadly), one Saturday morning, and an immaculate Mk1 Lotus Cortina rolls into the yard. It sounds really nice, with twin pipes out the back. My question "What's that got in it?" got the bonnet opened to reveal a 289cu. in. Mustang V8, that looked as if it was meant to be there!! Another car that the factory should have built, and raced.
Interesting story
Awesome to see the final edit. Thanks DATB team 👍🏻
Thank you
Back in 1982 we chucked an escort 1600 sport engine in an old Anglia and used it for drag racing. It did pretty well and I sometimes wonder what eventually happened to it.
What did you do with it?
@@datbs ... it ended up with a guy who had a garage fixing cars. I was an apprentice back then in another town and I lost track of it
Jim Clark would have put all today's F1 drivers in the shade had he faced them on track.
Would be interesting to see the difference
I had a classic 435 flb 50 yra ago does it still exist!
That would be interesting to know 😊
It should have been made l had a 1965 1500 super even with that. Engine was quite nippy with the GT engine 😊
What happened to it ?
I was talking with someone about corvettes and how to avoid axel failure, as they have I think a similar design to this, as when you put oversized rear tires on the back it can really stress out the axels, hence why when they took them drag racing you would replace the rear end, even on the new ones, with ford 9 inch rear axels and the key thing he said to beef it up was with offset trailing arms, and the diff itself, and the baldwin motions had traction bars on the back end, while using the stock suspension FOR drag racing not sure how you'd do that on an MGB though, also safety wise I think a must for this kind of racing is a scattershield if he doesnt already have that on, and the propshaft loop they use for drag racing to keep it from coming in the cabin granted that might be overdoing it for that second one, as I do see a roll cage in there, and for all I know with the FIA stuff that's already mandatory
Thank you for sharing this information kavin
It is kind of funny, that the model before this one, was the last seriesproduced car wit a sidevalved engine. From that to this, in so short time...
I had an escort twincam years ago. Loved it. Tuned up and very very rapid.
Do you have any pictures of it
