Lovely idea and good to see the Austin at least is still alive. I would much prefer to see petrol engines being used, even a light 1ltr type motor would do as a start with the net weight it would still be good fun.
I thought what a lovely idea and a great looking car until you mentioned it was electric then I immediately lost interest……shame !
I hope the new Austin expands their range in a few years. I'd like to own an A55 like my grandad used to drive
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Nick
I am a big 60s 70s Ford fan I love the Caprse
Thanks Mark for commenting, do you drive a classic now
Put an ice engine in it and I might get interested.
brilliant idea wish you all the best about time someone built austin cars i've got 2 from 1954
Hi Gordon what Austin’s do you have ?
Ah! Austin of India. 🙄
Question: that Austin’s seven was made so the average person could afford them, So what are the costs for these
Hi Bodgitscarper, did you watch the whole video ? As the prices were on the screen £28,000
Sadly I must admit i became disinterested when they mentioned the car was electric, along with its driving range, (could be good in a 20 min cities), now offer it with 1275 copper engine with a five speed. You would have a winner. Considering original Austin’s heritage where all petrol engined. It looks like a very fun car especially if it was a two seater.
@@bodgitscarper5353 again at the end of the video we looked at the chassis of the new two seater which is launched this March , but I understand if electric isn’t your thing , they are very much a fun item for no more than 100 miles
Very interested, but thought it was a bit electric whinny ?
Hi Glen , yes this has been discussed elsewhere , Les had a niggle with the gearbox which was causing the whine in the cabin , this has now been sorted and she runs fine thanks for commenting 😊
I had a h husky
Thanks for sharing Michael
So ingenious to have to use a huge fan to blow air from the low-pressure zone in the engine compartment through the radiator into the high-pressure zone underneath the car. Thereby robbing that tiny engine of a significant amount of power. Genius. Not. It could have been a great car. It wasn't due to several bad design choices, including the poor front suspension design which resulted in chronic understeer. The Mini, albeit less comfortable and practical, was great to drive. The Imp wasn't.
thanks for your views Fangpaw
Built in India for fuck all and sold to twats in England for 32k. Lol.
Nice, shame about electric just a non starter now
My sisters first car was a second hand Hillman Imp which soon developed a gearbox problem. It would jump out of gear and was only a few years old at the time.
Oh that’s disappointing James
Imp was my 1st car in 1972....bet it would feel odd to drive now 😊
This was my first car too !
You have just destroyed the original spec and originality of a rare example. It’s a delboy project.
all good until you mentioned electric.
any plans to build these with petrol engines ?
I don’t know the answer to that you would need to get in touch with Austin cars to find out Paul 😊
Touch screen dash! You must be joking right? That method is a modern mistake by mainstream EV manufacturers and should be banned - it is already out for consultation by VW. Touch means not looking where you are going at that moment - no different from texting or using a mobile phone while driving. Keep the controls switch or lever controlled, preferably via controls on the steering wheel - F1 style.
Hi Anahhilt, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the project
Brilliant achievement the look is spot on
Thank you for commenting William
Lady Penelope Pink!!!!👌
Hi Terence, thank you for your messages pink would be interesting
@ good luck to you…..I don’t think people know how motor engineering inflamed a man’s heart …..back in the Day….
And do some with a Mitsubishi mirage engine❤️🌟❤️🌟❤️🌟
What about a motor cycle engine to give it a real experience of the old days .
Do pink one…..it will be your best seller….
Muito bonito
Thank you for your comments Alvaroraio
I bought the 3 litre GT 1976 red in colour loved it the last one I had was the 2.8 S in 1984
Hi Thomas , thanks for sharing your story , do you drive a classic now?
You had me up till you said electric
Never seen them before.
Hi Jonathan, neither had I
Make one with a roof and it would be great for shopping.
I drove one of these in 1973 when I worked for the Newcastle Evening Chronicle aged 17. I learned that if you turned the ignition off then back on again whilst driving it would backfire, great fun for an irresponsible youth. Also, when one of my colleagues phoned the office to report that the clutch had failed, I drove the other HB to his location, swapped vehicles and I drove the broken one to the repair shop without the clutch. Lots of people in the company didn't believe it could be done, especially by someone so young. My tenure ended when I put the van onto its side when hitting a large patch of ice. Fun times.
Thanks for commenting KD sounds like you enjoyed your work !
Lost interest when electric was mentioned.
@@colingreen210 me too! Was excited until that point!

Saw this comment and decided not to bother watching.
looking forward to conversion - I would take this character repro with a V6 or EV conversion :) Drove a 72 Dino Been in one at 8+k rpm....but not for long - owner ignored erratic rev counter and 'winged it' - got one of the bent valves around here somewhere....
Thank you for commenting David
lovely rep]lica quality :0
Thanks David
I think he created the Austin Seven in 1922 ! Not 1929
Thank you for the correction
Bit of a mess. I don't think the shape looks right, losing the roof its lost its lines.
I seem to remember an estate version of this car back in the 1970s. I also remember a model badged “ES”.
Hi blackknight, yes that right saw only a couple of weeks ago
I remember seeing a convertible Capri in Barbados in the early 1990s. It was white initially, then repainted gold. But it wasn't in the best of shape and it might have been scrapped.
Thanks for the info David
I changed the Reg, but I can't remember to what. There is a picture on the net if you Google it under Ford Capri convertible. I have a picture if you send me some way of getting it to you, i.e. email.
Hi Bob , if you are on Facebook you can post a picture on our dedicated Facebook page of the channel “This is my classic” would love to see it
I'm not on facebook if give me your email address I will send you an attachment.
The original Reg was BPC336H.The I had at the time was it was bought by the Warner holiday camp family
The ford Capri that had V6 had one of the best exhaust notes ever heard
It sounds great doesn’t it
Colour, wheels and interior look very wrong. The Black inside and white outside looked far more better.
Hi J Hinz- he’s putting it back to original
Lovely car but ruined by those later alloys, rostyles would suit it much better in my opinion. Also not a fan of the white interior.
Thank you for commenting
There don't look much strength in the body with the roof chopped off. Could have done with a roll bar like the Triumph Stag
Hi Ruskie, the road holding seemed pretty good
Why no seatbelts?
Hi Roy, don’t really have an answer to that
I have a 1 off capri mk1 convertable from the 80's. They are amazing
This is interesting BarmaBoys any chance of seeing a picture of it ?
@Classiccarstories For sure. How do I contact you privately?
I remember seeing one of the grey cars for sale on a country garage forecourt near Rownhams nr Southampton in about 1982-ish. £450 it was priced at. I had my hands full at the time sorting my old XK120 other wise I would have snapped this up as a day time runabout.
My favourite car the XK series
@Classiccarstories Thank you. I owned it for over 50 years in the end. It fully deserves it's reputation as a fabulous sportscar.
I remember reading the newsaper article about these convertibles way back then. Cannot remember which version though. It was stated that at least 50 would be made but more would be made if there was demand for it. I have seen one of these on the road.
Hi Frederick, it sounds like it may have been the Abbots advertising
OOOOH I do like a MK1 Capri they are fantastic and the Crayford just looks like it should have been like that in the beginning and I love the colour if was me I would have gone Red seats with a Black dash.🤩
Hi John , interesting interior choice do you own a classic!
@Classiccarstories I wish I did, I had a Hillman Avenger 1500DL back in the 80s, wish I still had it, do miss it.
@ nice what happened to it ?
@Classiccarstories She got wrote off got hit in the back.😢
@@johngrubb1590 oh what a shame
The Crayford conversions were always an interesting choice. The convertible look really suits the Capri. This one looks lovely in the current shade of blue with its gloriously impractical white interior! It sounds VERY nice too! 👍
Yeah a great car and dedication owner Robert , what do you think of John changing it back to white and black interior ?
@Classiccarstories Although I love the blue, it would be really good to get the car back to how it once was.
@ yes I agree , I like a white car
That poor car - hope the next owner rebuilds it to something that can proudly bear the Crayford name.
I had a MK1 1600 GT Abbott in the middle of the '80s, which I wish I had kept. There is a picture on the Webb somewhere in white.
Hi Bob, oh what a shame you don’t still have it , do you remember the reg ?
