At this stage there will be a lot of soil sampling, ground testing, water course mapping etc. The site will probably need to be cleaned up after years of industrial use, which is why rewilding of this site is not a practical solution.

Regarding the Wixams Station, I believe the Bedford Borough Council notes said that if Universal theme park goes ahead, the government is expected to pick up the tab for a 4 platform station rather than the 2 platform funded by the council & the developers of Wixams.

It's quite worrying that there is no concern or regard for wildlife, agriculture, quiet green spaces, or food scarcity. All for the sake of a giant theme park which is going to absolutly decimate the area, lead to the whole area being concreted over. Does anyone worry what effect this is going to have on our future generations? We have no independance when it goes to making our own food - everything imported from abroad. What's going to happen when we need to grow our own produce?

You would think if Universal were to build a theme park in Europe then it would be more centrally like Germany with many surrounding countries. Being English i really hope it happens here and can't wait for the construction footage.

I really didn’t expect anything to start for a couple of years. And once the surveys and ground work and facilities are in I think they will hammer through the building of the park itself in super fast time like the new Epic Universe park in USA.

Construction Will Start on Universal Studios Great Britain by the end of 2025 🇬🇧

Knowing big companies and governments, they usually say the quiet part loud and the loud part quiet. They usually do this behind closed doors without the consent of the people. Universal Studios United Kingdom is already a done deal because they know what the people in this country want.

I hope they will get permission to build the park. That would save halve the travel time and costs, would make the timezone difference a lot smaller (just 1 hour instead of 6), and would save a lot of pollution by being able to travel a much shorter distance by car or train instead of needing to travel long distance by plane.

And an hour from my house. Perfect.

Interesting you mention the skips and the trucks places that you remember as a child... and next to that is the Cemex plant that reminds me of my childhood! I was born and raised in San Pedro Garza Garcia (MTY) Mexico, where Cemex is based and still has their head office. Great video, one of these days I must drive over to Bedford and do this walk, I don't live that far these days and can't wait to see if Universal goes ahead.

Just be careful, because there's still freight trains on a Sunday, and they're often quicker than the regular service ones.
