Phelps and Spitz were the best at their time, both are the kings of swimming, and I would add Weismuller too because breaking the minute barrier in 100mts was a feat. Spitz was in an amateur time, he did not get any cent in his career and only in his famous picture. What could have been of Spitz if he would have continued swimming and not retired at the age of 22. Phelps retired being 10 years older than Spitz in his retirement. Who is the best football player, Messi or Maradona. Both of course.
