i was taught the exact opposite because when making slabs you are more worried about bowing than curving and that crack is showing the stress line where the tree is in tension. So all the slabs cut how in the direction you are cutting it will bow. If you flipped the tree 90* The slabs would be more inclined to curve than bow but when making live edge you are not really worried about the curve as long as the table is flat. Thats just what ive been taught. that is a huge crack so i might deal with the bow in this tree and not lose all my slabs to that massive crack

There was a walnut tree in northern Il that was just removed on a back road in a ditch recently and was on public land. The tree was 5ft through and around 80ft in height and was 115 yrs old as I was able to age the tree. I was highly disappointed the tree was removed, however, as we know whoever makes these decisions always has some phony reason that the tree has to be removed. The tree was there 115 yrs and never a bother. Senseless.
