UBC Nursing Study Aims to Find out if Social Robots can be Used in Elder Care
Meet Kiwi and Mango, social robots from Japan. They may look like a cuddly cross between Teletubbies and WALL-E, but what lies beneath is advanced technology. AI enables them to learn, speak, recognize faces and voices, move around and even offer hugs, emulating the warmth of a real pet.
Kiwi and Mango are 'Lovots' on loan to UBC for a new study exploring interactions between social robots and older adults. Dr. Lillian Hung (she/her), lead researcher, Canada Research Chair in Senior Care and assistant professor in UBC School of Nursing, explains how the study was conceived and what it could mean for elder care.
Also featured in this video are: Mario Gregario, Patient Partner (UBC IDEA Lab), and Sally Carmichael, Amica Resident.

A Q&A with Dylan Gunn on his work to combat COVID-19
Thats my child and I'm so proud of them.
Fascinating work! Sending lots of love and warm greetings from Missouri ♡
I remember reading 20 years ago That 1 of the cannabinoids in cannabis had narrow pathic regenerative properties , What if the technology could be developed using laser Tweezers , Like how they position proteins to sequence geans, It would have to be some type of autonomous system Miron phase array laser with imaging at that level , Possibly one day performed in a 0 gravity environment With the patient and the chemical indused coma , I remember reading that during sky lab in the 1970s One of the doctors on board Not being a physicist Did a Superman across the station And flailed his arm very badly , And the time it took them to figure out if they were going to send another rocket up to get him Four days I believe , The injury was Completely healed with no scar , I don't know how this would apply to spinal Cord cells , just some thoughts
Ya Rabb kareem make any successful treatment for spinal cord injury Ameen
Can i have it?
Email the WHO (World Health organisation) or specialist hospitals to volunteer for clinical trials. I think America and Australia are ahead of us though.
When they are giving successful human clinical trials for spinal cord complete injury we are waiting please do it praying everyday
Wonderful work!
Bah guri !! Parabéns David 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👊
My god this is exactly the type of treatment I’ve been wishing for! Far too many SCI studies or aids want to focus on allowing paralyzed people to “walk” again and while that would be great, my biggest want would be to restore any feeling particularly in the bladder/bowel area
Good stuff.
I really wanna walk again~~~!! TT
I have an incomplete spinal cord injury C7 level. I must say I'm very happy to know that there are dedicated scientists out here working diligently in order to help restore people's spines. Thankyou all very much. 🙃
Please I went argent treatment medicine please call me then I'm complete spinal cord patcant 2 years
Please keep going you are giving me and thousands of others hope to walk again and get our lives back sign me up to be the first to test it. Thank you for giving me Hope
This is important to walk again since the act of walking is seen, what about the pain, why no one study for the same, nobody can see the pain and thats why no much care for it. A billions of spinal cord injuries or spinal cord tumors patients are suffering daily pain arround the world silently and no serial treatment yet. Hope you include them in your study. Thank you.
that’s a mighty big gap between bread crumbs and railroad ties what’s the correlation anyway?
I've had an SCI for more than 20 yrs... I hope they can get to human trials soon. Would be amazing if they finally figure out s cure
I am incomplete spinal cord patient. I am really happy for this Work. We will support as we can. We are waiting and praying to god for treatment. This provide us a lot of hope. Please work on it . May God blesses the whole team
I have been suffering from injury from surgery for over 15 years. Now walk different bc of drop foot and stiff left leg. Would so love to be a patient for trial on something like this. Would do anything to get back to what I used to do. Thank for so much you all do. You give us hope. 🙏
I was 28 when I git shot by a stray bullet t4 paraplegic, please keep going scientists please
Just think if they add epideral stimulation with this I bet we be walking
I had an incomplete spinal cord injury in September 2020. People like me are waiting eagerly for a treatment.
I concur
Please make human trials as soon as possible we wanna go for a long walk please make sure happens soon

I am 19 and want to walk again before I die 😭😭
Falta poco!!!
Be hopeful. I am also 19 and suffering from spinal cord injury. We will back to normal life. Keep working.
