them small looking narrow bits of water are fish passes ? ok weirs should be removed but the council dean of cathedral who owns the weirs aint going to remove them in a hurry

He would be wasting his time.. because it’s no big secret in Durham area. There is a free stretch just below this weir where blokes use lead core line and big trebles to snatch the big fish.. They can get up to 20+ fish a day and they sell them to the local pubs and restaurants for a pound per lb

@@Punch-and-Jewdy-Show trebles that get used are size 6 one treble unlike legal anglers who use multiple hooks lead core is used in higher water heavy fly line lower water the worst snatchers are the ones who claim to be fishing legal-and by the way me and a mate were the ones who exposed the corrupt council e/a river trusts and angling clubs who illegally closed the ice rink / passport side of the river down....that water belongs to the people not the council who still refuse to answer the question who has the fishing rights........

@@Punch-and-Jewdy-Show pubs dont buy fish restaurants dont buy either not in durham anyways most either give away their catch or eat them selves and the lads and lasses you refer to only really fish when the waters up with say 6-12 inches in any higher unfishable any lower not many fish....back in the day when sustainable rod caught salmon were allowed to be sole pubs food places all bought fish these days rod caught salmnon to be sold are ilegal E/A suggests we buy NETTED SALMON not sustainable eh

No salmon and sea trout need extra water -rain watta this along with mud which flows into the river when in flood which is what makes them migrate from sea / lower river to up river,when waters too low the fish hold back rain water triggers them ive fished Durham on the wear in the video for 44 years for salmon

theys more salmon now in the noirth east than they has been since industrial pollution nearly wiped them from around 1900 time Tees Tyne every river flowing to Humber wansbeck and rivers Blyth now bouncing with salmon.

Exactly salmon are not as plentiful they need help getting past these weirs it's a beautiful sight to see a salmon leap up a weir

the weir isnt stopping anything river wear is rated nO 2 salmon river in england and wals theys another clear route the fish can take thats out of sight to the video an unlike in the video the fish can take this route en in low water

@@Moostafa78 Yes they do...a few survive but I see the remains of many kelts( spawned salmon) on the banks of rivers I fish in the spring.

no the fish make it to cowshill waterfall which is their limit thats a way upstream river wear is 58 miles long from cowshill to the sea most spawn below cowshill in feeder streams around hamsterley forest in bedburn beck and the main river-the dead end spot is under the bridge pillars how ever they also have another route you didnt see in the video a mechanical screw with denieil fish pass at the side where fish can even pass in low water. River wear is rated No 2 salmon river in england and wales behind the near by geordie newcastle Tyne.....so we is doing something right

River Wear Durham city center framwelgate waterside just 200 or so yards down stream from cathederalthe river has extra water after rain and is late on in the year a month or two fater this video most them salmon will be dead after spawning.too see salmon leaping in general you need a over night rain for the river to go muddy looking from the rain then a day later or sometimes resident fish will jump weirs ...
