It REALLY IS most likely just an error with the writing but I just imagine it to be the fact of how even if you suppress your emotions, they'll leak out somehow. Just not at the capacity they usually are at?

I think another important thing to consider with Embarrassment is that in the first film when we see her feel embarrassed it’s in the context of her parents acting corny, while in the second film when Embarrassment is driving is in the context of extreme self awareness. I also believe the real reason these emotions show up in Riley’s head later is because they previously didn’t have a strong role to play. They existed but not at the point where they could have enough power to seriously influence her behavior yk.

Joy was so annoying the entire movie, only in the end I liked her more, she embodies the toxic positivity

My thoughts are that because the former emotions already gave her a lot of memories, she could easily somewhat reproduce them without them being necessarily there. Something like them using the Tridents commercial happy memory when Joy and Sadness were out in the first movie. Even so, most of her actions during the movie were driven by the expectations given by both Anxiety and Envy. But I get what you meant here.

This is what the first inside out needed. Riley seemed more like a robot instead of a character on her own and making it so that she can choose which emotions she wants to feel makes her feel like less of a robot

I didn't even realize how much personality Fear actually had so I'm grateful for this. ❤
