Heritage Ottawa - Moshe Safdie: Socially Responsible Design
Moshe Safdie has been practicing architecture for almost 60 years. He has designed headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, with satellite offices in Jerusalem, Shanghai and Singapore (and occasionally Toronto). His oeuvre encompasses more than 100 completed buildings, including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, communities and master plans on five continents and an even greater number of projects and competition entries. It is impossible to discuss all his projects in one lecture, so this presentation will cover those projects which were either designed for Canada or built in Canada.

He will ask, “What is the place of Modernist expression?” and “Why can’t we have façades a...

You can tell the speaker did live in Alta Vista! He nailed it! Lived in Elmvale for four years now and love discovering all this lost history. Great video - the OPP explosions in there last night brought me here. Thanks!
I had no idea there was such a thing as the Dominion Observatory Preservation committee. I thought it was only me that wanted the Observatory AND Observatory House protected. I would like the asenath?? protected two especially because it is the last surviving one in Ottawa.
Dr. William King was my uncle. He and his wife and family were the first to live in Observatory House, also on the same property as the Observatory. And, Sir Sandford Fleming is buried beside Dr. King's father-in-law.
I saw your TH-cam channel. Not doing proper video upload and keyword research on your channel is not increasing channel subscriptions and views. I am willing to solve your problem.
Think I saw one of our Hydro Ottawa generating stations in one of the slides.

Enjoyed viewing this video 💚💜💙 L8
Thank you for this video as I had special interest in the Swamp Tavern which was founded by my Great, Great Grandfather Christopher Armstrong who was also a founder of Kinburn. A little further north my Great Grandfather Christopher Armstrong son of the other Christopher was co=founderof Powassan which is just south of North Bay.

Has any Research been dedicated to the other buildings in Carleton Place, i.e. The Town Hall? St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church?
Oh yes! You’ll see the Town Hall featured on the VMAO website. The museum has extensive files on many other local buildings.
Excellent Presentation. Although, I do feel bad that the horses never get to be outdoors in a field, grazing, like all the other horses near where I live. Asphalt and concrete is all they know.
😑 p̲r̲o̲m̲o̲s̲m̲
John Cundell should get a documentary just for himself. This man is such a character. He was an elite lacrosse player in his younger days and I had the pleasure of playing masters lacrosse with him. Never a boring moment with him. I remember that he is often asked by horse shows to be a judge. Anyone who knows John will laugh at the comments of misguided people who say that horses which pull carriages are being mistreated. There are legends in Ottawa such as Gerry barber and Lally Lalonde. I strongly suggest that John Cundell is such a legend,.
