A good film is so much more than a series of images. Let's talk about it.

BLINK TWICE Review - GOOD Premise. Questionable Execution...
I don't have time to make a video for Sonic 3 as I said I would in this video due to unfortunate circumstances. My apologies. My thoughts on it in case you were curious: It's fine. Even decent. 6/10 if I had to put a number on it. The movie is based on the story from the video game Sonic Adventure 2, which was easily one of my favorite games as a kid. I clocked in far too many hours in that game (especially farming chao), and I loved the story. Shadow's tragic story was one that always stayed with me growing up, so naturally, I was beyond excited to hear that the game's story would serve as the blueprint for this movie. It kind of gets there. Shadow and Maria's friendship gets the spotlight it deserves. His flashbacks of their time together and the love that she showed him are absolutely the heart and soul of the movie. That said, there are elements of their story from the video game that I sincerely wish had been incorporated into the script (a certain promise, if I may). What's left of their story after being changed for the big screen definitley works, but I was left feeling like there was something missing. I can't help but feel like there could have been more dialogue between them or at least another flashback somewhere in there. That feeling very well could solely come from my nostalgia and love for the game, though. Perhaps the viewers out there who didn't play the games and got into Sonic with these movies might feel differently. The movie is otherwise a lot of fun. It doesn't hold back on the same peak goofiness that was present in the first 2 movies. This is what makes the movie so charming and also what makes it exhausting. It's unapologetically cheesy, but it's a vibe. It caters to the younger viewers, but in a way that gives the older viewers room to uncross their arms and allow themselves to enjoy the radiant, campy fun. Speaking of childhood experiences, Jim Carrey was far and away my favorite actor as a child. The zany energy he brings to all of his work and this franchise's humor are a match made in heaven. There is (literally) no other actor on the planet that could make Robotnik this enjoyable of a character despite being a sinister piece of crap. The role he plays in the movie is thankfully different this time around, and even though there probably isn't much more to gain from Carrey's Robotnik in future projects, I wouldn't be upset if he continued to make a showing. The forementioned exhaustion comes from the relentless comedy. To put it plainly, if you happen to be exhausted by the MCU's constant quippy humor, there's a chance that this movie will give you a migraine. Minus the Shadow/Maria flashbacks, the movie can't seem to go more than a few seconds without a joke. Sometimes, they're genuinely funny. I personally laughed out loud several times throughout the movie. The majority of the time they're... whatever. They didn't make me laugh, but they didn't make me cringe or roll my eyes either. Then there's that last 10-15% of jokes that do make you think, "Oh brother." Again, it's very much a family movie, so nobody should be surprised by the childish humor, but it's worth mentioning for reviews sake. Overall, it's a fun and energetic movie that's worth a trip to the theater. It's the best Sonic movie yet, and fans of the franchise are definitely in for a treat. Stay tuned for both the mid-credits and post-credits scenes. -Josh
He’s not regressive, it’s a period piece.
imo I couldn’t feel connected or empathy for the main character. The first movie did it better somehow.
Drew Starkey is my new favorite male actor 😍
Good show with some awesome action scenes.
Give it all back to Marvel. Sony is doing a crap job
Excelent review, you summarized it very clearly on what to see or gain. I dont like WB's writing in particular, the subject very tied to the 50's, the anxiety inherent to the way gay men are is not that interesting, Daniel Craig obviously makes a big statement being a straight man with the courage the dvelve into this world of cruising and constant seeking, never quite fulfilled. Love your reviews, read you soon again! How about Maria, the Callas story, next?
NO PRINCE NO ROMANCE WEIRD WEIRD WEIRD
Can’t watch anything with Ziegler, I love the rest of the cast though. She is a villain
Sorry but this movie starring Rachel Zelger is WEIRD, WEIRD
Ur beautiful 😊
😊 You're too kind!
i honestly never even took the serious parts serious. which made it so much better.
Bill Clinton get hacked Bill Clinton creep me out left and right Tomogatchi is evil this movie is not good and not funny it out of the world stupid horror comedy movie it the worst movie ever
I somewhat agree that Kyle Mooney brought a campier vibe to the movie, but he was also the funniest part of it. If the tone had been more consistent it might have worked better. That said, it’s clear the younger actors were trying to play more serious characters, making him feel out of place as a stoner caricature. Still, his character had me laughing the most-his comedic timing in some scenes was undeniably sharper than the rest. Personally I thought Fred Durst was the worst. He cannot act at all and he was not funny. But the movie was so uneven and absurd in some places. During the third act I was just wanting it to end.
This is a must for me. The title of the movie is not too attractive!
I found it very confusing and scarry for children with the mandrils morphing into some prehistoric birds...the school dance brought to mind the rumble of West Side Story, mish mash of musicals. The set design, costumes, all technical pretty awesome, the acting not for the books, not enough character development, Ariana Grande is charming and lovely, but not Oscar Material. Ms Cynthia dont r emember her last name, is sort of an odd bird in real life, with shaved head, eyebrows, nose ring, not too far from.the character she portrays, so therefore not too believable as a character too close to life, except she is not green and has not tinted eye lenses in life. Beautiful voice, a seasoned actressa, but was a better Harriet Trabman, am sure you saw the movie. All the best till the next review!
How I hate these type of movies, but respectfully I listen to it because I enjoy the way you summ it all up. When comes something decent again, interesting? Did you review Blitz? I loved it!!!
I didn't have time to see Blitz, unfortunately. Next week I'll be reviewing either Maria or Queer (or perhaps both).
It stupid and bad and horrible
Do you think they will release another trailer? I understand the frustration with only having footage from the side-scrolling trailer lmao
Don't think so. It would be short notice for a December release, but it's not unheard of. Edit: 🫠
Sorry for the extreme lack of B roll. A24 left me with no footage to work with other than that side-scrolling trailer. 🫠 Edit: They have since released another trailer for the sole reason of taunting small YT channels like this one. Sneaky little devils. 👿
Sebastian is amazing! Especially as he is under prosthetics or confined to a chair half of the movie! Tragic, but entertaining. Great movie!
Thought it was awful tbh....please dont make anymore....remakes very rarely work....like this....😢😢
Trash movie 💩
It's outstanding 👏
Totally agreed with your comments. Lacks the unity, more compact storytelling of the first Gladiator. Washington, getting surely a nomination, very Shakeaspearan! Loved the lead guy, very attractive, has a great future, has range, emotions!
Just saw the movie. Totally agree with you. I felt it could have been edited, repetitive scenes especially the second act. Very interesting character study of these different generations, social loops, great acting, i was a bit taken back with the last scene, but it was like a moment of compassion, not only gratuitous sex, once again, but the inevitability of her life, right? I felt just like you when the credits rolled on. Love this space. I can't wait for your review on Gladiator 2
Thanks! It should be up tomorrow or Monday.
Lovely review, thank you, I will see this with one of my girl posse. Love your reviews they are always spot on.
this movie is great for people who will relate to Fran. Probably will be boring for those who won't.
💯
Criminally un-subscribed TH-cam channel, mate! Your breakdown/reviews aren’t just “this part sucked” or I didn’t like this bit”. Hope your sub-base grows! ✊🏼
Thanks, Josh! 🌈 The story is not a loose adaptation of THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) as you said. It's a prequel, equal and sequel in Oz... focused on the witches, not 'Dorothy'. The musical is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire. He wrote it when L. Frank Baum's properties became public domain. I would love to ask his ghost what he thinks of these modern renditions of his characters. 😆 And you've only seen the first act. There are surprises coming in the second act. And these character relationships are profound. I hope you'll get that someday.
Solid review. Yeah the main problem with the movie was the script. Here are my criticisms: 1) Too horny. The whole "Cairo's BFF wants to do Cairo" was not needed in this movie. This angle felt unearned and forced 2) Mrs Miller initial reaction to Cairo. Her reaction to Cairo being interested in her husband with him reciprocating this interest seemed too mild. I think the script was trying to say she didn't initially react to it because this isn't the first time and because she's a drunk but I don't think that makes sense. 3) The absence of Cairo's parents seemed too convenient for Cairo having the opportunity to pursue her relationship with Mr Miller. At the very least, there should have been either inner dialog from Cairo or a monologue from Mr Miller about how the absence of her parents might have affected her behavior. I would rather that her parents physically at home but too busy in their lives to see what Cairo is doing. 4) Cairo's blackmailing of her BFF at the end seemed too forced and like this review said, makes her look like a different character. The screenwriter/director even said that she didn't want to make Cairo be a villain. But blackmail makes you a baddie
5:53 could someone tell me who this actress/character/ movie is, in reference to the line "...best actresses (in contention) this year..." or was that another character in this movie?
Mikey Madison in Anora. She's been getting a lot of buzz for this role and with good reason. Just added a video card for my review to avoid confusing anyone else.
@@MovieMuseOfficial I thought she brought an excellent, needed layer of humor to her performance of an otherwise chagrined character in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". Good to see her getting more high-profile work! I'll have to check that out. thanks!
The twists and turns accumulate in act 2, so expect more of those in the second film. Overall, great review 👍
I saw it tonight and enjoyed it. I also dont have a theatre background but disagree about Galinda being the star...I found her antics cute, and it reminds me of her character Cat on Victorius, but I didn't shed a tear over her antics. The party scene where Elphaba was dancing alone while being mocked had me balling. I loved the end as well when she read from the book and was flying. I don't know if I'll see part 2 due to the ending but I transported for a few hours to OZ and found that place beautiful but so freaking flawed. Whoever directs the Harry Potter movies should definitely shoot part 2.
"I don't know if I'll see part 2 due to the ending" Do you mean you've seen the musical and don't enjoy the ending? or am I misreading it? Part 1 & 2 were shot together by the same director. It's already been shot. Part 2 is coming next year. The Harry Potter movies have several different directors.
David here I been a movie buff for over fifty years and it took me over 30 minutes to warm up to the movie. The girl had to grow up because her Mother passed away and her Dad was in the hospital. It just depends on how much imagination you have if you like the movie there’s no way you should bring a child under seven to see this movie and be prepared to answer a lot of questions afterwards. I can’t believe parents let their children run around in the theater no common sense in 2024.😊 see you at the movies
Excellent review!!!
Thanks! 😊
Sorry for sounding nasally again. I'm sick for the 100th time this year. 🫠
I saw this two days ago and it's almost all I've thought about. I can't think of the last time an actors performance was THIS perfect. Cillian Murphy deserves another Oscar and I don't even think it will be close.
HATED the wife character
Its New Ross, not New Moss..
What's sad is that I even had "New Ross" written in my script, and I still botched it. 🤦♂️
@ great review regardless 👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
Cillian is a generational talent
Small things like these certified FRESH 93, it's a beautiful film!
An interestign Pinguin charachter? In my Dc?
Excellent show! I hope the series continues.
Yeah bro the only non gay generic liberal basic ass review I've seen out there
Yup
Same sort of plot as Cloverfield
If you think this movie requires too much suspension of disbelief, in no case should you see Conclave, which like Juror #2 is an excellent film.
Already reviewed it. Like this movie, I did bring up its pulpy writing, but I enjoyed that movie as well and landed on a positive rating.
