Million Dollar Highway Scenic Drive - Ouray to Durango Colorado - 4K
A scenic drive along the Million Dollar Highway and the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway, nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Starting in Ouray, we drive southbound on the Million Dollar Highway, renowned for its breathtaking views and, for some, thrilling and sometimes nerve-wracking curves. From there, we head to Silverton and continue along the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway, ending our adventure in Durango.
US Highway 550 between Ouray and Silverton in Colorado spans 25 miles (40 km) and is famously known as the Million Dollar Highway. Many consider it one of the most breathtaking journeys you can travel by car.

The Valley of the Gods is actually both a historical and beautiful area to travel. The valley is known for its stunning rock formations. Historically, the Valley of the Gods is significant to Native American tribes, particularly the Navajo, who consider the area sacred. The formations are believed to contain the spirits of Navajo warriors. We hope you enjoyed the video!
When you leave the hwy 9 tunnel the vertical mountain is tight on your left side. Very intimidating...quite scary if I may say so.

Indeed. This area is popular for camping and driving around, but it doesn’t have permanent restrooms. The porta potties help keep the area clean and protect the environment by providing a proper place for people to use the bathroom.

We are just as overwhelmed as you are. That’s why we love spending time there and sharing the landscape. We are very curious about Japan as well!
Was there last week on an adventure motorcycle. There are bouts of SAND across the washes. We bareley made it through. My riding partner (lots of experience on dirt bikes) went down. Don't believe we would have made it on a cruiser/tourer. The sand is mostly less than 100 feet long and generally not too deep. But there are a couple of nasty exceptions that are longer and deeper. Would not be much if any issue in a vehicle. Very worthwhile detour.
Hopefully, your riding partner and bike were ok! We totally get the challenge with those bouts of sand. We drove there in the spring and then again just a couple of weeks ago, and noticed the difference. We were genuinely surprised. Nevertheless always a pleasure to drive this fabulous road.
The merciless Sun beats down on Utah, but it is big and beautiful: truly the 'Gods Country'. Would love to visit if possible. Love from India.

It’s a beautiful place! I camped on the side of that pointy butte January of 2023. The road was muddy as heck it cost me 30 bucks at the car wash in Blanding. Then when I got to Saint George, I made another trip to a car wash and still a lot of red mud left. It took several trips to the local car wash for the water to completely run clear. Moki Dugway is another of my favorite road to drive that’s very scenic to drive on the way to Natural Bridges National Monument. I did it the day after I camped on the rim of Goose Neck State Park. All beautiful areas of Utah.

When I saw Forest Gump movie years ago, I immediately fell in love with the Monument Valley scene and told myself I wanted to go there one day, which I did a few year ago. Now, I want to go back there, through the spots you showed here (Valley of the Gods, which I also went through last time with our rental suv). This time, I want to drive my own car and do car camping there, one day at a time, just enjoy the scenery around. There are so many canyon places you can easily spend days or weeks in AZ, CO, NM and UT areas.

Is it a long walk from the parking lot to see delicate arch?
The hike from the parking lot to Delicate Arch is about 3.2 miles round trip. The trail is considered moderate in difficulty and typically takes 1.5 to 3 hoursto complete, depending on your pace and how much time you spend at the arch.

Would a 2wd be able to do this road
The road through the Valley of the Gods is a graded gravel and clay surface road. If the weather is dry, most 2WD vehicles can handle the road. Actually, It is suitable for passenger cars when the road conditions are dry. We drove the road several times, both with 2WD and 4WD. However, road conditions vary throughout the year with regional weather conditions. Local inquiry should be made during and after periods of inclement weather.
