Brewtus Roasting Colombia Finca El Recuerdo Tasting
I think coffee companies should be SUED for calling 6 ounces a CUP!! They don't fool anyone except the ignorant. A CUP is 8 ounces.
I think the wate tank is BPA free Polymer in the new ones.
Thanks for your comment and that's good to know.
Purchased a ratio 8 when they were first released about 8 years ago. Great machine no problems other than peeling coating where the water is poured into the machine sent machine back and was recoated. Highly recommended
Wow that's awesome. I didn't realize they offer that. Did you contact them directly? I am having some issues with mine right now that I need to get fixed.
@@BrewtusRoasting Yes I contacted them and they offered the fix. At the time I think it was still covered by warranty. Over the years it started peeling again I'm just ignoring it at this point.
I will give them a shout. Thanks!
Any recommendations for a decent but reasonably priced bean grinder?
Hi there. I like the Baratza Encore for a nice everyday coffee grinder. brewtusroasting.com/collections/coffee-grinders/products/baratza-encore
I use a Kitchenaid daily to grind my beans (which is also good for spices). It's been working great for 5 years. You can't go wrong for $40. Highly recommend.
Why not a permanent filter?
That's a great question. I don't have a problem with metal filters as long as they are kept clean. It is best to clean them with Cafiza or a similar product every week or two. Metal filters allow more solids through but sometimes offer more body as a result. I prefer a cleaner cup of coffee, so I use paper filters.
Very interesting
I am glad you found it interesting. Thanks for commenting.
My favorite coffee maker. Cheap, unbreakable and you can custom brew coffee the way you like. ideal for travel and back packing.
I agree on all front. I keep on in my roastery and I often use it for a quick cup of coffee.
Taste the rinse water, then taste some water from the same kettle, and you'll discover it was not necessary to rinse the filter.
I have done that and I do find there to be a slight taste without the rinse.
How often do you have a sample roasting day on your schedule?
It's as needed. There is no set schedule although I did do another day today.
Look further in the app, indeed you can edit personal recipes, no need to create complete new ones. Just make slight changes to existing recipes.
Thanks for the comment! You are able to edit on an android phone? If so I would love to talk to you offline and see how. I don't see that anywhere.
Great video, Stephen! I like to keep my brewing manual but always cool to see product innovation for folks who are busier than I am and need the automation. Cheers bud ☕️🔥
Thanks Jesse. I know you still love manual brewing but you know I love trying new gear all the time!
U diqhead , instead of talking so much, show us the actually coffee you brew and zoom in on that and discuss the quality of the coffee you got from it compared it to everyone. I’m a nerd too like you but I don’t make it so apparent. Do better
“pEaCe” ✌🏻 😂 and next time mention it being $699 as the fist fact so ppl don’t waste time on the video. Close to $700 99% will back out
idk why would anyone chooses this over xbloom
I've never personally used that so I couldn't make a decision either way.
because xbloom relies on stale pre-packaged beans
Fancy!
It definitely is!
"All the parts are plastic" -- and with that I have no interest in this machine.
I understand your point, but are you aware of a brewer out there that doesn't have mostly plastic these days?
Is it me or it’s blooming with too much water?
I decided to check the bloom quantity with a half pot and a full pot. The half-pot bloom quantity is ~176g, and I normally use 40g on a half pot, so that's a 4.4X bloom, which is kind of high. On a full pot, the bloom was 212g, and I usually brew with 80g, so that's a ~2.6X bloom, which is totally fine. That said, I've never thought either was way out of whack. That's for the question and for contributing to the conversation without flames!
This seems like they copy the Mocamaster. Took their design. Not sure if that's ethical.
I can certainly understand your feelings about that. It does look a lot like the Moccamaster.
I love this coffee machine
It's a good machine.
They definitely copied 100% the Mocamaster with some slight changes not to get into a legal problem. So basically you can choose the original for a premium price or a good branded generic.
Too much talk!
Thanks
bet you cant tell blind
If it was left on the burner for more than five minutes I guarantee I could. I'm always up for a challenge. Let me think of a way to try the challenge.
Nice review! Review an old school percolator next! We still love ours.
I will try and work on that. I haven't used a percolator in a long time.
The price! I have the chemex . But as the only coffee drinker I brew smaller amounts.
It is indeed quite expensive! Chemex is awesome!
what packaging machine do you use and seam sealer
It is made by a company called Logitech out of Vermont. If you want the exact model let me know. It's very affordable. The Seam sealer is one I bought off of eBay. They are about $400 and they tend to last about five years. This is my second one.
Well, I heard,(wow, that's hot). You didn't measure the temperature of that “hot” coffee. It would have been nice to know what temperature the Cuisinart was brewing at. I must be the only one who hates fooling with Technivorm. I replaced the Technivorm with the Oxo 9 cup. I'd have to start with closing the brew basket off on the Technivorm, wait 30 seconds, give the grounds a little stir, and then open it up and let it brew to get a good pot. The Oxo 9 should be called the (auto bloom) drip coffee maker. For the 100-dollar machines, I always liked the Cuisinart and Capresso machines.
You are right. I believe it's the burner that makes it so hot, not the brew temp. I've heard good things about the Oxo but I haven't tried one yet.
@BrewtusRoasting It seems to be an automatic (pour over), my opinion. Anyway, it makes an excellent cup of coffee. I had just received a shipment from Stumptown Coffee, just one of many great roasters, and I was very happy with the exceptional pots that required no effort on my part, other than grinding.
The Melitta is often sold in supermarkets. I use it for morning pour-over coffee with #4 filters. No complaints here.
I have not seen it in super markets around here, just the filters. It's a great device for the money.
why coffee brewers listen to the same playlist 😂
HAHA! Because we all buy music rights from the same place!
AI have tried many methods with the Melitta, every time the coffee comes out the same. 2 tablespoons of coffee, first pour to bloom, then 3 more pours. Adjust the amount of coffee use to your taste and the brand you are using. No scales.
Amazing! I am glad you have an easy and fast method for it! That makes it even more versatile!
Actually, the Cuisinart's carafe is 5 ounces per cup for the coffee maker you are using.
Thanks for the heads up!
I believe the Coffee Maker you are using in the video is the DCC-1200 series. Cuisinart recommends using One Tablespoon of coffee per 5 ounces of water. When I was using my Cuisinart, I found that making a half batch or only however much water was needed to complete a brew cycle in the 5-6 minute range gave better results. I found that a normal brew cycle for a full pot on that coffee maker took over 9 minutes. resulting in bitter coffee. Also, you can lift the lid to reach in and stir the grounds during a brew cycle, but the water would end up dripping onto the hot plate I now use the Moccamaster KBT-741. I also purchased the flat bottomed brew basket and lid and spray arm for the Moccamaster Grand and use that with the 741 sometimes. I did have to modify the brew basket and lid a bit to loosely fit against the reservoir. Now I get to use a Flat Bottomed Brew Basket or a Cone brew basket. Lighter mouthfeel with a Flat Bottomed basket and not quite as strong. But, I only use it for a full batch. I cannot drink a 1-16 ratio. Much too strong for me. Unless I am doing a pour over of only one cup.. @BrewtusRoasting
I never knew about these until about a month ago and this is the one I bought. I wish I'd known about Melitta's single-cup brewing years ago. To think I never needed a coffee machine of any kind! ⬅
Yeah it's a great device for the money
I have this brewer and use it all the time when Camping in the great outdoors, yes it does indeed make an excellent brew....ah! can't you just smell it?...ah! can't you just taste it?
That's a great use for this brewer.
You need to get your volume sorted out, keep it consistent throughout the video, I was having to keep adjusting it down and up all the time.
It was the shirt I was wearing. The mic was swinging all over the place.
1800/30=60
Nice. I'm over a hundred years late with pour over coffee. Just discovered it and love it. After trying a few I settled on the oxo which my wife loves and i have the Melitta ceramic. Couldn't be happier with both.
That's awesome! I am glad you are experimenting! Keep it up!
im a new cofffee nerd all i have at the moment is a k cup machine and wanting to do better. i am starting to dabble in the chemestry of it all im looking into a v60 or a chem x for starters but im a total noob altho i am trying to learn....
Good luck! Get away from those pods and just buy any coffee from a local roaster or us!
Coffee Snobs
I prefer enthusiasts!
@@BrewtusRoasting Nah, you're a snob.
I owed this coffee machine and honestly it is far better than the cheap me coffee maker, the water gets at least somewhat hot and the shower head isn't bad
It is better than a Mr Coffee for sure.
Get the Redline, almost same brewer and cheaper. Both have a bloom feature.
I am unfamiliar with that brand. It does look very similar. It seems to be sold out. I don't see anything about a warranty. The Simply Good has a two year and a 30 day money back guarantee. I would love to know more information.
Great video. You guys are a pleasure to hang out with! Until I save up for the moccamaster, here is my Mr Coffee heck: ratio of 60g Joe to 1000g water, medium grind, start brew but remove the carafe below. This will hold the water in the grounds. I keep the lid open and gently stir the grounds until they are well saturated and bloomed. Then I put the carafe back and walk away. IMO the coffee comes out pretty nice. Thanks guys!!!
Sounds like you have your method dialed in! thanks for the kind words on the video. I need to get a new one out really soon.
Mocamaster has a solid copper coil? This? That’s why mocamaster lasssttss
I agree but this is a nice budget brewer.
I saw a video where the water temperature was measured between this, and the mocha, master, and it was the same.
So Cooper last longer than aluminium, steel or brass? Bullshit!
I have five of these. When I entertain I can do up to 5 at once in about the same time as 1. Straight into the cup(s). I have a #6 Melitta cone and glass caraffe, too, but haven't used them in years.
Sounds like you are ready to be a barista!
Looks like a moccamaster knockoff
I would tend to agree with you. Stayed tuned for an incoming review of the Moccamaster.
Great review! But you said the brewer is $179... its $149!! Nice job!
You are right I did mess that up! Thanks!
I use it for my French Roast coffee to filter the coffee ☕️
Awesome! Thanks for commenting.

Hi, thanks for the video, do you have a link for that scale?
Hi there. I forgot to let you know about the scale. Here is the link to it on Amazon. It is the Hario V60, www.amazon.com/Hario-Coffee-Scale-Timer-Black/dp/B08VRSZVN4/ref=sr_1_5?crid=R9N0H3XM2B4G&keywords=hario%2Bscale&qid=1680862622&sprefix=hario%2Bscal%2Caps%2C99&sr=8-5&th=1
I had something similar to that and it made terrible coffee.
That's too bad. What didn't you like about it?
This is the one I bought and it brews deliriously delicious coffee.
I had a red one and the hole was to big and I had to grind it so fine it was bitter and terrible
Fine review but I still don’t know how or why to use the bloom switch?
Thank you for commenting. Putting the bloom switch in the up position and turning the brewer on activates the bloom feature. It stays on every time you brew unless you switch the button down. I should have been more clear in the video.
@@BrewtusRoasting thanks. That answers my question 😎☕️
If you’re saying it’s too hot, please take the temperature. Hot is very relative.
Good point. I will do that in the future.
Great video! Proof that a good grinder and well roasted coffee will deliver a nice cup, no matter the budget!
You got that right!
As the only coffee drinker in the house, I'm always brewing one cup! Thanks Steve!
James I hope this helps you out! If there are any videos you would like to see let me know!
I have that exact coffeemaker. I start it for about 1:15; turn it off for 30s then restart. I make 500ml with about 34 g. It’s ok. Leaning towards the ozo 8 cup.
Jeffery that's a good ratio so as long as you are using a quality grinder and good coffee you are probably doing the best you can with it. Nice work! I don't have any experience with the Oxo 8 Cup but I've heard good things. In a similar price range check out my review of the Simply Good Coffee brewer.
