Bring tangible change to our community, particularly to the kids who would otherwise not have these opportunities. Your contribution to the 1Climb Sacramento Climbing Wall would benefit countless children here in Sacramento and the surrounding areas, including special needs, disadvantaged, and at-risk youth. The social benefits of climbing include encouraging cooperation, giving and receiving criticism/ suggestions. Building relationships and the mental/ emotional benefits include enhancing concentration/ mindfulness, testing determination, teaching fear management, building confidence and even fighting depression. These benefits would be great for any kid, but the fact that this project brings them to special needs, disadvantaged, and at-risk youth really grabbed my heart and attention.
As you may already know, my eight-year-old son Nolan has autism and is non-verbal. Something consistent among parents of children with autism is the nervousness behind the huge unknown of how the child will develop and whether they will ever be able to communicate clearly. While these do remain as long-term unknowns in our case, I have been so blessed to find a connection with Nolan over climbing. I fell in love with it and brought my family to try it out with me. I’m ecstatic that now Nolan and I climb together on a regular basis. I now have a relationship with him where one did not exist before. It is through climbing that I was truly able to meet my son in a way I have never been able to know him before.
Because of how much climbing has done for my relationship with Nolan, as well as for his development and confidence, I went searching for a way that I can pay forward these blessings to other families who might not otherwise have a chance to try this uniquely beneficial sport. What I found was 1Climb, a 501c3 not-for-profit group that works to put climbing walls into Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Your contribution will go to a terrific cause for the good of Sacramento, as today’s disadvantaged youth are tomorrow’s community at large. I have dedicated myself to making sure that this project is completed, and it will cost $100,000 in total.
