    So even if a hiker takes the books the runner gets a DNF?

    • @icanbuymyselflowers
      @icanbuymyselflowers 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Basically, I’m sure it has happened in the past but considering that we get more coverage of the event now, is only how we heard about it. The best part is that the hiker did not take it with them in this case. They brought it to camp.

    I think the craziest thing if all is asking for sparkling water after running 5 back-back marathons. 😂 I couldn't imagine wanting carbonation after that.

    So you only have to work out one loop, they are the same right ? The pages in different places each lap .? Bit confused

    • @icanbuymyselflowers
      @icanbuymyselflowers 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Each loop is same but you have to go clockwise and anticlockwise and continue like that for four loops. For the 5th loop, they send runners alternating. The books stay in the same spots for all 5 loops. The thing with running a race of this magnitude is that after running for 9-10 hours which is the first loop, your body/mind starts disorienting, plus for one of the either two loops, you do it in the dark, hence added on difficulty and you are again finding the book spots from anticlockwise direction (which is known to be difficult by all the Barkley runners, that’s why they prefer clockwise in 5th loop). You see this is all off trails, you in the forest, lack of sleep, body and mind tired, alone. So it just gets tougher with each loop, no matter how well you work out one loop.

    49:33 When he says, next time they'll bring a pack of cigarettes... ("Volgende keer saffen meepakken, eh.") This refers to: "Prior finishers of the marathon who return to run again must submit a pack of Camel cigarettes as part of the registration fee." He wants Karel not only to win, but to return again.

    I've seen several Barkley documentaries in the meantime and I have never seen a black person- not in one single shot. Then I read, that the Barkley is actually inspired by James Earl Ray, terrorist who murdered Martin Luther King. I don't think it's just coincidence...

    • @icanbuymyselflowers
      @icanbuymyselflowers 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s not inspired by him. It was actually a commentary of how he only ran 8 miles in more than 50 hours. The race is designed to show that these hills can be conquered. Laz has mentioned somewhere I can’t remember, that no way it is inspired by him or is an ode to him.
