Gillian and Adrian met ten years ago and made an impulsive purchase of Herdy, our motorhome, in late 2019.
Since then we have both made the decision to leave work and explore.
Our first, and abiding, passion is to be in the mountains. Living close to the Lake District, we’ve completed all 214 Wainwright summits twice together. Herdy has given us the freedom to climb mountains in Scotland, the Pyrenees and the Alps.
When we’ve not got our boots on, we’ll be on the bikes. They give us a great way to get out and explore straight from Herdy’s door. Our cycling highlight, so far, was the iconic Tour de France route up Alpe d’Huez.
More recently we have dipped our toes into cold water swimming.

Scotland 2023 Part 5 (Cairngorms)
Cairngorm Mountains in snow. We stayed at the beautiful Loch Morlich. Visited Loch Vaa and the Sculpture Trail at Feshiebridge. Climbed through the Rothiemurchus Forest in falling snow and trekked through deep snow to the top of Ben Macdui (UK's second highest mountain). Finishing our time in this amazing place with a cycle ride through the Abernethy Forest.

Scotland 2023 Part 4 (Banff, Findlater, Findhorn, Brodie Castle and Forres)

We travel along the North East coast of Moray through Banff with huge waves. Stopping at Findlater Castle on our way to the huge empty sandy beach at Findhorn. The next day we cycle to Brodie Castle (not a ruin) and stop in Forres for coffee, cake and bike repairs.
Scotland 2023 Part 3 (Slains Castle and the Bullers of Buchan

Another travel day. This time from Stonehaven past Aberdeen stopping at the dramatic cliff-top Slains Castle, the birds nesting on Dunbuy Island and the Bullers of Buchan (sea cliffs and arches).
Scotland 2023 Part 2 (Lunan Bay, St Cyrus Beach, Stonehaven and Dunnottar Castle)

Continuing our trip along the North East coast We like to make the most of our travel days so on this one we called at beautiful Lunan Bay, the amazing St Cyrus Beach with waterfall (if you can find it) on our way to Stonehaven. Once at Stonehaven we visit the War Memorial and Dunnottar Castle and head off to explore Aberdeen by train.
Scotland 2023 Part 1 (Falkirk, Glenrothes and Lomond Hills)

So, we spent a week staying at the fabulous Fforest Fields campsite near Builth Wells in mid-Wales, and this video shows what we got up to. Cycling Around Chester

Adrian grew up in Chester, so this was a nostalgia trip home. A visit to the old house, then a long cycle out along the Shropshire Union Canal and the Chester Millennium Greenway and out as far as the England border with Wales towards the Wirral. Return along the arrow straight River Dee back into Chester to see the Rows, the Cross and the Eastgate Clock.

Short weekend away in Herdy to see Gillian's son (visiting from Los Angeles) and to see My Neighbour Totoro on stage at the Barbican theatre. Also featuring an excellent meal in Ruislip, a walk through the Colne Valley and along the Grand Union Canal and a visit to Osterley Park.
Pendle Hill

Hike up Pendle Hill in Lancashire, UK. Circular walk on a very cold January day. Started at the car park in the village of Barley (two pubs and a very nice cafe called The Cabin). Walked up Ogden Clough and then along the ridge to the summit back down the steep end. p.s. I know the Pendle Witch trials were in 1612 (not 1512 in the voiceover).
Ill Bell Ridge

Hike up the magnificent Western arm of the Kentmere Horseshoe route. Climbing from Troutbeck up the Garburn Road to Yoke 2,309ft, Ill Bell 2,476ft, Froswick 2,359ft and Thornthwaite Crag 2,569ft. Amazing clear blue skies and a great day to be out in the mountains.

It was a real adventure. We loved it. Bit muddy on some of the roads. We got soaked by a heavy rain shower about 10 minutes from the end. Which washed all the mud off. 😳😃👍
