Great video. Nice to watch someone who’s good at what they are doing!
Thank you!
Hello! Cool video! What kind of arrow rest is on the bow?
One of the most relaxing yet interesting videos I've watched. Having only just started in recurve archery, where does one learn how to create their / others own bow strings and what equipment please?
Hi Garry. Glad you enjoyed the video. String making can look complex but it's really not that difficult. Just requires a bit of patience and practice. I learned by making cheap Dacron strings for our club beginner bows where, so long as it was safe, it didn't matter too much if it didn't look perfect. It has the advantage of the materials being relatively cheap so you don't feel bad if you end up having to scrap a string. Jig:- Mine is an A&F jig. Built like a tank and reasonably priced too String material:- start with something like BCY B55 (Dacron) Serving:- Again, start with something cheap (but good) like BCY 3D Serving tool:- The Beiter one is awesome... but quite expensive the Cartel one is inexpensive and a good place to start (but you'll want to upgrade to the Beiter one if you get the bug! :-) ). Sounds like I should create a couple of videos specifically on string making... but in the meantime I can recommend this one. It's a bit old now (and I use a slightly different way of starting the laying up), but it's a good general overview. th-cam.com/video/wZCz-wGBvRM/w-d-xo.html
Plase material?
Excellent explanation. Many thanks.
❤❤thanks buddy
Lekka man
Great
You idiot we can't see your work too far away
So, it appears to me that serving a bow string is very much like whipping a rope.
Well spotted… yes, indeed. It’s exactly the same as whipping. 👍
Love you man, Thank you very much
Glad it helped
hiya! im really enjoying your vids (something strangely soothing watching that tool spin around) but lost the gist abit in the finishing of the serving as it was slightly off camera
enjoyed that, Im just mid point in my beginners course and really fancy the idea of making my own arrows up. you make fletching look "not scary" thanks!
Another great details of serving bow string.two thumbs up.
That was an excellent explanation. I salute you sir. Thank you
Regards the "4mm of tiller therefore 4mm np height" whilst that's not a bad starting point, I'd be tying some much easier temporary nocking points, determining my np by shooting bare and fletched shafts together at 30m, then tying these at whatever height that test tells me. Tiller to suit my finger pressure/hook and whatever height of grip I might have and even draw length: these variables are going to determine where my np will be. Going to be different for everyone.
Hi... yes indeed, those factors will have a direct effect on optimum nock placement. One thing I would add, is I'd do bareshaft planing tests at a distance the archer can group which may be closer than 30m, and if they're a novice, then I'd probably just do a basic set-up (4mm of +ve tiller, 4mm nock point height etc.), check to make sure we don't have any clearance issues and let them get on with it for a while 🙂).
👌 😎
Love from nepal Baglung
Thanks 😊 Great video South Texas
thank you very much..helps a lot 👍👍
This is by far the best video for setting up. One thing you went over so fast with no explanation was, setting the cock vane. No other video even touches on this. I have searched so many and still don't have that setting correct. Please help! Thank you!
Thank you for your video. Very precise and straight to the point. Now I've setup my jig properly. 👍🏻
You're a life saver, I just got my first bow a little over a week ago and the serving started coming undone. Nearly started to panic until I found this video and managed to fix it!
My I send you my string ….😬
Fantastic video - thank you! Can't say I've used the rewind function so much before but got there in the end!
Super useful video, very many thanks, my jig was a little out which was ok for carbon shafts when I could rotate the nock, I have just started to venture into wooden arrows and the nock is glued prior (as you know) so I was a tad perplexed so many thanks 👌
Going to try this. The brass nocks are tearing up my finger tab
Impressive !!!
Good sharing but its a little bit dark situation
Thanks very helpful
Finally, after watching so much crap, a video that explains how these jigs work! Shame on the manufacturers for not providing instructions.
Very nice tips! The V bar one is great! Tks!
Thank you for the tutorial!
So much good info and instructions! Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you found it useful 🙂
Excellent video. Thanks so much!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏very good
This is the best video because it's the ONLY video out of 10 or so I've watched that even mentions the index / cock vane (which I find bonkers because it's so important!). Sadly, the one thing you don't mention, is which side (looking from the back) do you put the sticky tape on for fletching after the ink/paint has dried? Since you 'draw' on the 'right' (again looking from the back) do you then apply to the fletch to the left of the paint? I've re-done a single arrow 3 times to try and figure out the rotation, but each time I feel like my fletches are wildly out of alignment with the nock.
Great tutorial, thank you
Fantastic explanation! Amazing coach
Great vid, (seeing as Cartel provide no instructions!) 🤬 Question: with the adjustable plate on the back, could you alter the angle slightly to provide a helical effect on the fletching? Or would you need the twisted clamp to achieve that?
Hi Danny. Glad you like the video (I've got some more in the pipeline including how to set up a pressure button). The clamping plate can be set at an angle as you suggest, but sadly that'll just give you an offset. Good news is that Cartel do sell a helical clamp (Right Wing or Left Wing) and it's not crazy expensive... I don't recommend any particular shop, but if you're in the UK, I've spotted that Merlin have them in stock (www.merlinarchery.co.uk/cartel-midas-mx-clamp.html).
@@planet0philip thanks Phillip, I wonder if the Midas Mx fits the original jig? They look the same on the pics so I’ll order the helical clamp from Merlin and see! 👍🏼
Saved me! Great tutorial
How to buy
thank you for the video very informative
Hi stranger it’s been a minute since your last video, thanks for the information appreciate it.
Making my first arrows using this jig next weekend. Thanks for the video. Very useful 👍
Glad it helped. Love to hear how your fletching turns out.
Can the Beiter Try Liner be used to have a left or right offset for helical fletching?
Super helpful video! I love the idea of taking out one of the set screws. After that and a little lubrication this inexpensive fletching tool is working great. Thank you!
No problem! Glad you found it useful :-)
Thank you sir for sharing appreciate it I’m sure I’ll watch this a few times I won’t to start doing this my self. I just subscribe to your channel and i hope you subscribe back take care my friend. God bless. 👍🏼🏹🇺🇸
This was really useful - thanks for sharing. I just about to make my own grip now. Also your sound quality is excellent! What sort of mic do you use?
Hi Stephen, glad you enjoyed it. The putty I use (session saver) goes a long way so a single stick is plenty to make four grips. Pleased that you liked the sound quality, it's a very simple 3.5mm jack external mic, but it's a powered one with a good aftermarket windshield so even in windy conditions the sound is generally good). www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M4J5WCM/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_3NPhFb9MN48GZ Have fun making your custom grip and let me know if you'd like to see me make any other archery 'how to' videos.
