That's a myth. Birds have a very poor sense of smell, so picking up a bird and returning it to the nest or water is fine. Don't spread myths unless you know what your talking about.

When I was a kid, I used to live near a lake. The number of ducklings one would see with mothers would tend to decrease as the spring months wore one. There is a reason why, despite so many hatchlings, the world isn't filled with ducks.

The hawk is helpng the ducks get better by removing the slow ones. Could have gone for the faster, more muscley ones, but no, settles for the littler, slower straggly ones, just to help with the duck breeding program.

They jumped when they shoulda ducked. RIP
