Otter tucking into a Lumpsucker fish on the Isle of Bute 😍🦦💚

This was my third Otter of the morning. She'd already caught and munched a few smaller fish before bringing in this decent sized Lumpsucker. It took her roughly 35 minutes to strip all of the flesh from this one before heading home for the day 😍🦦💚 I trimmed this down from about 18 minutes of footage 😁

I was enjoying a really lovely encounter with a gorgeous wee family of Otters when mum popped up with a fish and passed it over to the 2 cubs. A bit of a battle ensued until one of them managed to win the tug of war and headed to the nearest rock to devour it's prize and I got to sit and enjoy the lot 😍🦦💚

It was pretty dark and damp in the woods this morning but there's nowhere else I'd rather spend a Sunday. This morning I had 4 wee Reds sitting watching me fill the boxes and as soon as I took my seat the caching commenced. There were at least 6 Squirrels running around the site at one point, all making sure they've got their provisions for the winter months. It's an absolute joy to sit and wat...

John, this video is spectacular! What a great array of photography capturing your "wee" island. Loved loved your nature shots but also those of the landscape, cityscape, and of people. The colours are so vibrant, the music was perfect. Grebes, mergansers, otters, Barn Owl, insects, shorebirds, rainbows, angry waves, sunrise/set. I can't say enough positive complimentary things about your photography skills and ability to capture it all! Wow!!!

That is some tasty looking white flesh! Otters have a great niche in world. They sport a warm coat, swim in cool waters, nap with water views and eat tasty sea and freshwater foods.

Yeah, John didn't add sound to this one. Funny though, watching this video, my brain is hearing the sound of the ocean/surf even though it's missing. Can't recall what that phenomenon is called, I'm too lazy to google it. 😄
I enjoyed your video. She is a beautiful creature. You gotta feel some kinship with another mammal that prefers fresh seafood like one's self.

Always very much appreciated 🙏🏻 I use a 200-500mm lens so I can always keep a safe distance from the Otters but sometimes conditions and good fieldcraft can allow to get a wee bit closer for better quality shots. I don't really promote my TH-cam. I don't really consider my video content good enough but it's something I'm planning on working on 😁

It's really hard to tell but the numbers have increased so much in recent years, they are everywhere now. Every stretch of shoreline I walk I either find Otters or evidence that they are there. It's so lovely to see them thriving 😍👍🏻🦦

Yes these are Eurasian Otters we have here on Bute. I do feel very very fortunate to live where I do. It's a very beautiful island with so much naturey goodness to enjoy 😍👍🏻

That video was last year and my wee regular female Squirrel caching for the winter. Her kittens are now running around my feeding site and seem just as comfortable with me 😁💚
@@isleofbutebyjohnwilliams6783 We had a relationship like that with a local Eastern Gray Squirrel - she was black in colour. Her behaviour was unnerving to visitors - she'd climb up their pant leg (like us), looking for peanuts. She'd look in our window so we'd know it was "time"...her time to be fed. She had many broods over the years. She died a few years ago but was at least 8 years old!
