If Rush had followed restrictive regulations that were drawn up to address every conceivable situation the only kind of craft that could be developed would likely have been a heavy, unwieldly sphere that was virtually useless for exploration. What he wished was a "sportscar" model able to crawl around and into sunken ships. This dive, too, might have been completed successfully had it not been for an issue with maintaining the craft in a horizontal position. The Titan was descending faster than usual and when the Titanic came into view they attempted to slow it down by relieving it off some weight. The shock of bumping into the ocean floor at an angle caused the epoxy cement that is brittle at cold temperatures, which held the nose cone to the hull, to shatter and the craft disintegrated. Communication with the surface ceased when the Titanic was spotted and the keyboard was left unattended before the submersible actually crashed.
